The best Temaki Sushi hand rolls

As I was in Tuen Mun for a photoshoot, I got some recommendations for food.
My friend recommended me this Temaki Sushi hand roll joint at Waldorf Shopping arcade.

I didn't have any expectations because hand rolls are just cold clumped sushi rice and the only exciting part is the first few bites because all the ingredients are on the top.
Secondly I find it messy eating hand rolls because the toppings and rice go everywhere after taking a bite.

Anyway, after the photo shoot I decided to check it out as I was really hungry and could do with some carbs.

It was a small joint beneath the busy mall yet they had so many hand rolls to choose from that it was hard for me to decide, so in the end I picked the hot items.
The interesting thing was that I saw a grandpa eating a roll so it must be good because elderly Chinese do not usually eat sushi as they consider it rather modern.

++++++++
[grilled flounder fish hand roll]
Began with the flame grilled flounder fish which was a good start because the rice was at room temperature and it wasn't clumped together but loosely held together yet firm.

It was wrapped in paper so it was easy to eat AND I did not make a mess and the fish didn't drop out, the seaweed was fresh and crisp that it lets you get a clean bite without needing to tug it.
The fish itself was fresh and the oils infused with the rice nicely that I didn't need any seasoning.

+++++++++++++++

Next I had the cheesy roll with a prawn cutlet in the middle.
It was topped with egg and cheesy sauce.

Normally I am not keen on Japanese egg because it is sweet but when you take a bite of this, all the flavours are fantastic because the sauce is tangy and then you get the warm crispy prawn in the middle and then you have the egg and cheese.

The best thing is that the frying oil was fresh so it didn't kill the roll.
++++
The next roll I had was the hand roll with uni, scallops and salmon roe, basically all my wishes in one as if I was eating a hand rolled donburi!!!

Again, all the ingredients were fresh especially my favourite popping salmon roe and in the middle it was not just solid rice, there was salmon in the middle.

+++++
As I was still hungry, I decided to get the fried soft shell crab with crab paste hand roll because the fried soft shell crab is guaranteed to be good judging by the fried prawn I had earlier since their frying oil is fresh.
When it came, you could see the how vibrant the crab was, it was bright orange and you can see the claws clearly because the coating of flour is thin.

I just loved every bite of this because the crab paste was so fresh and not fishy and the soft shell crab was light and crispy.
+++++
I am definitely coming back when the MTR is half fare again.

Great Japanese food in the heart of LKF

At LKF most of the restaurants are American or International but now there is a good Japanese one called Ore-no Kappou by Ginza Okamoto at the new California building.

Here was what we had:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Welcome cocktail - Ore no Sakura:

Started off with this sweet cocktail that had notes of grapefruit, peach and sakura.
Definitely a sweet and pretty cocktail for girls.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dassai 50% Junmai Daiginjo sparkling:

Tried this before and after it was shaken.
The taste before was quite light but after it was shaken the alcoholic taste was really strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Potato gazpacho with seafood:

Started with this delicious viscous potato gazpacho which was loaded with pieces of fish, scallops and prawns topped with creamy urchin on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Assorted sashimi:

The sashimi was fresh with a good assortment.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seared abalone, sea urchin, scallop and seaweed wrapped in Japanese paper HOUSHO:

The Housho had a great wow factor, it was abalone, scallop, sea urchin topped with seaweed wrapped in paper with browned edges.

It was served with delicious abalone liver sauce that made it taste amazing.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pan fried shirako with butter, assorted vegetables, ponzu sauce:

It was my first time trying Shirako and I have always wanted to try this because they look like mini brains or twisted intestines clumped together.
I didn't know what they were before but I found out that they are fish sperm sacks.
Anyway, I liked them because the texture was mushy and sticky like sweetbreads and the sauce tasted like sweet and sour sauce which complemented it nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled wagyu tenderloin and pan fried foie gras with truffle sauce:

The foie gras was huge, it was just as thick and big as the tenderloin which was tender and juicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Red miso soup:

Compared to the usual miso soups, this had a stronger beany bitter taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
mackerel saba sushi:

It was my first time trying this as well and it was like a huge omurice and the comments were good because others said the fish tasted good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pineapple creme brulee:
I thought this was just going to be a an ordinary creme brulee flavoured with pineapple but again I was impressed because it was a huge slice of pineapple with creme brulee in the middle.

When you eat it, you have to dig right to the bottom to get the pineapple as well.

It was delicious because the juicy tart pineapple balances the sweetness and creaminess of the brulee which is a nice change from plain boring creme brulee.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet red bean zenzai cigar style:

Red bean lovers will love this and there was a nice chewy layer in the middle of the crispy roll.

Cod and seabass delights and Sen-ryo

At Sen-ryo, I tried the cod and seabass because they are now in season.

Usually the cod and seabass that I have is cooked but it is served as sashimi/sushi in Japanese cuisine.

As well as cod and seabass, they have five daily special fishes which are displayed at the sushi bar.

Here was what I had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Plum and sake:

The plum and sake had a savoury tone in the taste, great with sushi.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grapefruit and pear wine:

The grapefruit and pear was my favourite and definitely recommended because it was sweet with pieces of grapefruit and pleasant to drink.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tried the five daily specials which were fresh and tasty.

Kinmedai

+++++++++
Itoyoridai

+++++++++
Horse mackerel

+++++++++
Ainame

+++++++++
Fresh scallops

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled cod head:

Tasty grilled cod fish head with a crispy golden skin with gelatinous fish beneath it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled cod with miso:

The cod was so silky and soft coated in delicious miso glazed.
After adding lemon juice it balanced out the oiliness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
-seabass sushi (anchovy paste)

This was delicate seabass enhanced by the salty Anchovy Paste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
seabass salad

The seabass was refreshing with salad leaves, purple onions and radish.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled fish cake with cheese:

The grilled fish cake was interesting because the texture was similar to marshmallow with melted cheese in the middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Miso soup:

The miso soup is a must order because it is different with a milkier taste and the kelp in the soup was really nice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
steamed egg:

The steamed egg was loaded with ingredients at the bottom, a great warming starter.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sake jelly icecream:

The sake jelly icecream was a refreshing and great dessert to round up the meal with pieces of ruby red grapefruit flesh at the bottom, topped with sake jelly and icecream.
The grapefruit was nice and zesty while the sake jelly had a strong alcoholic kick in it balanced by the sweetness of the icecream.
It also comes with an extra shot of sake if you need it but personally I liked it as it was.

Creative sushi to take home!~

Every now and then I would pop into Sushi Take Out and see what they have.
Most of the times, there would be something interesting.

On this visit, I discovered Macarons but evidently they do sell because they are only $8 and you can see the Green Tea one is already sold out.

It seems that every branch stocks different items because some of the sushi I found here was not available at other branches.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Raisin and cherry warship:

This was ok as a dessert because it was sweet and creamy with some cream cheese as well as raisins and cherries.
It reminded me of the blueberry sushi at Naked gurame.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Yuzu pepper:

I was surprised that one of their warship flavours were made with yuzu pepper which was my favourite.
However the yuzu pepper could have been stronger.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Octopus warship:

The pieces of octopus were springy with sweet soy sauce taste.
