Modern Kati Rolls by Bengal Brothers debut in Wanchai!

As a foodie, I am always trying new as well as local things of different cuisines.
Kati Rolls are one of those street food items from Kolkata where you have roasted kebab meat wrapped in a paratha bread in the form of a roll.
The ones I have tried are the Frankie Rolls from Kailash Parbat also known as Kathi rolls but now everyone uses the name Kati rolls.

In the UK, there are many places for Kati rolls but not so in Hong Kong which is why I am so glad Bengal Brothers has debuted in Wanchai.
As well as rolls, they also have these first-class bowls, again what every one is doing these days with a fragrant rice/whole grain rice base topped with the same ingredients as the rolls so you can either choose the bowls or wraps.
The modern twist here is that they use fine ingredients like braised short rib beef, pulled pork and quality lamb which people can relate to.
All the rolls are freshly made in house with flakey parathas drizzled with tangy chutney and crunchy fresh salad.

To start, how could I not try the [BB classic roll] which is filled with freshly beaten egg and chicken tikka, mint & cashew chutney, house pickles.
It was really tasty as all the goodies was wrapped in this flaky paratha and the pickles and sauces were moreish with the chicken.

Also had the [Sweet potato chaat] which was drizzled with pomegranate, yoghurt & chutney.
It was a lovely healthy twist with sweet potatoes and refreshing bursts from the pomegranite and honey.
Last but not least was the Fresh mango Lassi.

Overall, I really enjoyed it as this place specializes in Kati Roll with so many choices.
The design of the this joint is hip and young which is perfect for grab and go especially being right in the office area.
Food ergonomics were well thought out too with a good wrap design which makes the rolls easy to eat.
There is a bar table to dine there so you can sit there while you wait or even dine there.
The self ordering kiosk is self explanatory and you can even order online through their website.

New Nacho chicken bites from subway

A while ago I spotted some new products from Subway, these were the nacho chicken bites and Potato Crispers.

Finally tried the nacho chicken bites which basically taste like chicken nuggets coated with finely crushed cheesy doritos with a lovely cheesy aftertaste.

It would have been nice if the coating was crunchy as they were a bit soft.

KFC snack box and gravy

I was close to getting chicken from elsewhere and the thought of luscious KFC gravy drew me back so went to KFC instead.
I got the snack box and gravy because I just felt like having some chicken, chips with gravy.
Sadly, the chips were unevenly cut and overdone and the gravy was absolutely tasteless and lacked that chickeney taste.
The piece of chicken lacked flavour as well so I think the quality of the gravy is a telltale sign on how good the chicken at the shop is because the gravy is made from the chicken, so if it is tasteless then it means the chicken itself is tasteless.

Jollibee Leicester Square and Earl's Court

I am so glad there is a Jollibee at Leicester Square which makes it really convenient!

It is definitely always busy as the price is affordable!
Overall, the menu choices are much better than Hong Kong but no comments for PH because I have not been to the PH one.
Will definitely order the Asian Chicken Rice Bowl (Chicken Tenders served with Asian Slaw and Rice topped with Asian Ginger Chilli Sauce.) which Honks does not have.
As there is another branch in Earl's Court, I went there to avoid the crown but sadly they didn't have the rice bowl.
Sadly they did not have the rice bowl so I might have to go back to Leicester Square and see but no one on social media seems to reply my query.

In the end, I went to the Leicester Square branch of Jollibee to try my luck on ordering the Asian rice bowl.
What annoyed me was that at the Earl's Court branch, they didn't have this over the two visits I went and the reason they didn't serve it was that they did not have that bowl.
So, I finally was able to get the Asian rice bowl at the Leicester Square branch and it wasn't exactly served in the bowl as shown on the product shot so the people at Earl's Court could have done that too instead of my wasting my journey there.
The Jollibee social media hasn't exactly been helpful as they only reply to bloggers that they have invited and didn't even answer my questions in the instagram comments.
Their Asian rice bowl seems a bit fishy anyway as they have deleted related posts for this product so I think it is probably going to be taken off the menu or it is not worth promoting.
To summarize, the dish just didn't look anything as colourful as the product shot and the slaw was really bitter even though there was a lovely fragrant sesame flavouring to it.
The chicken tenders were good which made up for it however the rice was too mushy.

Your perfect crumble from Humble Crumble London Old Spitalfields

Humble Crumble was another place I visited before lockdown.
They have really upped their game after lockdown, their small unit at the Old Spitalfields has now moved to a bigger unit which shows how good they are.
Not only has their shop grown, the choices of crumbles and topping combinations are the next level up.
It now works like this!
You choose a size, choose a fruit base, choose a crumble, choose a topping from dried rose petals, cinnamon, almonds, hazelnuts and edible glitter, choose a custard.
Optional toppings are edible flowers and chocolate drizzle.
I went for the special iced peaches which were baked in maple, cinnamon and brown sugar topped with vegan crumble and frozen custard.
Although I could have glammed it up with other toppings I just wanted to save these for the next visit and appreciate the iced peach crumble and frozen custard on its own.
The peaches were lovely big chunks which were soft and sweet while the vegan crumble was lovely and light.
The frozen custard reminded me of American custard because of the texture being like softserve but it went really well with the crumble!
I definitely recommend Humble Crumble and do check out their instagram because you can see their Easter crumbles and Christmas crumbles which are creative and instaworthy.
