Taiwanese pork chop with rice at 炊豕店

炊豕店 (Causeway Bay)

Most people who are not from the New Territories are attracted to this place because of the retro decor and green floor tiles.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pork chop and rice:

The pork chop was succulent and juicy which was not too salty.
Beneath the pork were tasty pickled vegetables which gave the rice a lovely flavour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
As I am not a fan of Taiwanese food, it didn't really impress me and it was expensive.
It is also annoying that this restaurant has a minimum spenditure per person.

Starbucks Vanilla cream frappe

Needed something icy to cool down so contemplated on the green tea frappe or the vanilla cream frappe.
Since I tried the green tea, I decided to try the vanilla.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vanilla cream frappe:

Basically it tastes like a vanilla icecream milkshake but it is not that creamy with lots of cooling fine ice crystals in it.
As I was really hot, I loved all those ice crystals, but I found it a bit too sweet.

Easter brunch with lamb carvery at Wild Grass

There is nothing more than a perfect roast with potatoes!!!

At Wild grass, they are doing a great carveries which is served from 12am-3pm.
The Easter selection which is served until the 21st of April 2014 is slightly different to their Saturday and Sunday carvery.
It features a great range of fish and meat including fish, chicken, beef and lamb!

Fresh spring lambs were flown over from UK's Sandon Lodge Farm in Essex and butchered by a special guest from UK for this event.

The Easter brunch includes a choice of starters, meats from the carvery and an Easter edition dessert.

I loved the brunch because there was a meat for everyone, the lamb's belly was the best, it was soft and gelatinous. The belly was really interesting because the gaminess of it was actually really nice and not like the usual gaminess that doesn't taste nice.
The only thing I wished for would be mint sauce.
As well as the meat, the roast potatoes were divine, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

OpenSnap mobile app rocks

Lion Rock (Mong Kok)

Thanks to OpenRice for inviting me to this event which was the launch of their new mobile app called OpenSnap.

It is basically an app for openricers to share their food photos.

Here are my opinions on the disadvantages and advantages of the app.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Advantages:
1) a picture explains a thousands words so people who don't read reviews will find this useful.
2) you can tag other opensnappers.
3) all photos uploaded will be shown because they will not be screened for tasting or non tasting events.
4) For opensnap users, they can see photos from existing published reviews from openrice because all the photos have been linked to the app.
5) it will encourage more opensnappers who previously don't use openrice to comment because not everyone likes to spend time to upload photos and write comments.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Disadvantages:
1) For OS users, it is not linked to openrice so if you intend to write a review, you need to upload it again.
2) You cannot post photos for restaurants which are no listed, hence you need to update openrice with the new restaurant details and wait for it to be approved before you can post them.
3) Not every phone system supports it, so it would be great if they could improve it so that phones with a basic android version could support it.
4) there is no PC version like instagram so if people don't have the app they can't simply view the photos on a pc.
5) the app is not searchable on playstore because I had to get it directly from the opensnap website.

Samples of the food that was served:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The food I tried:
I went to a tasting before this event so I was really full and tried two items.
Tried the abalone which had a delicious truffle taste.

I finished off with soup which had delicious fish maw in it.
Even though it had fish maw, the soup was not sticky.

Wine glass markers and mobile phone screen cleaner from OpenRice:

LED paperweight from Lion Rock:

Franchised Shanghai style food

Shanghai Po Po 336 (Tseung Kwan O)

The decor of this branch is quite nice and modern but out of place for East Point City because the vibes there are just weird.

It was strange with English mottos when most people there don't read English.

Sleep till your hungry
Eat till your sleepy

The menu was nice and simple.

Tried the noodles in sesame sauce which was too sweet.

The noodles in spring onion oil fared better because it was tossed in aromatic soy sauce and spring onion oil.

Well hidden restaurant

Olive Cafe (Wong Tai Sin)

Went to a gathering and they chose this restaurant.

The prices are quite expensive for its location and quality because it was Chinese style Western food although some of it was ok.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Superman cocktail:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pasta:

Tried the DIY pasta and it was hard to choose between capellini and fettucine.
Anyway chose capellini with asparagus, crabmeat and salmon in aglio olio style.

It turned out quite nice but it was too spicy and they used real crabmeat which was good.
