The best chippy in Hong Kong and it is true

Being an expat, the most missed thing is roast dinners, fish and chips and the English style Chinese takeaway foods.
I have read numerous reviews that this place is the best for fish and chips but I was not familiar with Central and those narrow streets similar to THE LANES in Brighton.

Anyway, finally managed to locate it one day and it looks and smells the same as the British Fish and Chip shops.
They even had pickled eggs and gherkins in glass jars.
The familiar boards with chalk writings and the local catch of the day were there as well.
After I sat down, I was given a menu.
There were so many choices of fish as you would expect.
On the table, there was the good old Sarson’s vinegar bottle! [not sure if it was real Sarson’s vinegar inside though.]
It was hard deciding what to order and they had my favourite chips with curry sauce or gravy too.
In the end I chose Fish cake and chips and Cheese and onion pie with chips.

The food came quite fast.

Although the chips looked over done and dark, they tasted amazing.
The potatoes are freshly cut and fried.

Fish cake and chips
This was a REAL fishcake!! The ones I had at school, ground fish with herbs and some mashed potato inside a crispy crumb coating. I went mad with the vinegar and put loads on the chips and fishcake.
Along with the fishcake there was the classic mushy peas and real tartar sauce.

Cheese onion pie
It was the same as the school ones, thick gooey cheese inside with slivers of molten onion.
Its hard to explain but it is not sickening or creamy, but really cheddary and gooey but not stringy.
The cheese becomes firm after it has cooled down for a while.
It came with gravy too!

Freshly squeezed lemon
Very refreshing.

It was really comforting because they had deep fried mar’s bars, although I was really hoping to see Bubble and squeak on the menu too!
Let’s hope that will be on the menu soon.

Too salty @ Masamura Sushi Restaurant

The food used to be good, but when I went this time the sushi was too salty.
The seaweed used for the Handroll had gone off, it was not crispy and very chewy.
The soup was too salty that it needed diluting.

Standards getting lower @ Genki Sushi

Years ago when there was not much sushi restaurants about, Genki and G.Sushi were the only choice.

Sushi is getting cheap these days, you can get cheap sushi for $3 each at Sushi Express, most of the items at Genki can be bought there.
I was a bit shocked the sushi here didn't taste as fresh as Sushi Express and it was slightly more expensive as well.

Sausage roll @ Pacific Coffee

Cant remember the price, but hopefully if I have a sausage roll craving again I will remember not to get it.
The one at Starbucks tastes better.
The sausage meat was a bit too firm and it didnt taste so fresh.
It tastes nothing like the ones in UK.

Super sour chocolates @ Lucullus

Went during the opening and they were giving out free chocolates.
The one I got was the super sour chocolate series.

Inside the chocolate was hard jelly and the chocolate outside is coated with extremely sour particles.

Overall the taste is quite sour as the name suggests.

The blackcurrant chocolate bomb had really nice irridescent dark/blue purple dusted powder on top which reminds me of eye shadow!

Softened chocolate egg tart @ KFC

I got the softened chocolate egg tart, which is just the normal KFC Portuguese tart filled with soft chocolate beneath the egg filling.
The tart was baked nicely and not burnt, it had two chocolate chips on the top to distinguish it from the others.
Since I only bought one, I was very impressed they put it in a box for me.
Overall tart was not too sweet and when you bite into it, you can see the chocolate filling at the bottom, the texture of that chocolate is similar to the egg tart filling.
After I finished eating the tart I realised I forgot to take a picture of the middle!! ><><><BUGGER~!!
