Affordable robatayaki

Tried Tamashii which is located at The Coronation.
It is a bit far if your not living in the area but great news to those living in that area.
I got lost at Yau Ma Tei trying to walk there but then I jumped on the 43M minbus which stops opposite The Coronation.

At the entrance, there are lots of Japanese wines and Sakes.

beautiful bottles.

This is where they do the grilling.

Here was what we tried:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
tomato salad with wasabi dressing:

sweet tomato slices with a crisp juicy texture complemented by the sauce which had a faint wasabi flavouring.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
fugu mirin boshi:

The fugu mirin boshi was rather sweet and sticky, yet it was soft and chewy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
White eel, Australian beef wagyu tongue, chicken grislte:

The eel was fresh with crispy grilled skin which had no bones.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken skin:

The chicken skin could have been grilled longer because it was not crispy enough and the fat was still there.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
U.S. Angus beef tenderloin:

This was my favourite, lean juicy cubes paired with mustard.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
pork flanks:

The pork flanks were a bit dry but it was complimented by the fragrant leeks.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
roast pork with yam:

This was my favourite. Thin slices of lean pork wrapped around fresh yam.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
lamb racks:

The lamb was tender but it should have been grilled longer because it was a bit raw for my liking.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
minced chicken skewers:

Fairly done but a bit too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Foie Gras:

The size of these were huge!!
They were bigger than the ones you get in other restaurants that serve it as a Western dish.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scallops:

Fresh and sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
prawns wrapped in chicken skin:

These were interesting and chicken skin enhanced the taste of the prawns.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese Hiroshima oysters:

Juicy plump oysters that were fresh.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Kintoki sweet potato:

These were heavily buttered and then grilled because there was a heavy buttery taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tofu icecream with chocolate brownie:

I was rather full for dessert but the tofu icecream was good because it was not too sweet with a strong soy bean taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Overall the grilled skewers here are not that expensive.

White valentines day cakes and new mango cake

Dolci lovers are going to rejoice because there is going to be a branch in Quarry Bay soon!!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
White Valentines day:

White Valentines day is coming and there are three cakes to celebrate this day!
+++++++++
Amore, Espresso and Guaiava.

+++++++++
Amore:
panna cotta and mousse infused from real lychee and rose tea leaves.
It was the perfect pairing of lychee and rose with a good balance because you could taste the fragrant lychee and the rose was not too strong.

+++++++++
Espresso:
The 7-layered Espresso is made with espresso mousse, ganache and sponge cake.
I loved the taste of this because you could taste the expresso but it was not bitter.

+++++++++
Guaiava:
An 8-layered Guava cake alternating sponge cake, guava jelly, guava ganache, and guava mousse to create a very light and fresh cake.
As well as the guava gelato, the Guaiava cake was also made with real guava.
You can literally taste it in the guava paste layer.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mango dome:

Laid on top of homemade crunch pistachio shortcrust biscuit is a mouth-watering yellow dome made up of light mango mousse, mango pudding and real mango cubes.
The dome is bright and colourful just like a kiss in the morning with a refreshing sweet mango taste.

++++++++++
Mango sorbet:
For mango lovers, the sorbet is a must too with a natrual mango taste that is not too sweet.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
baby chiffon cakes :
Maccha (green), Hazelnut (beige), Raspberry (pink)
All of these chiffon cakes were soft and delicious, the hazelnut one was the best followed by the raspberry.
The texture of these cakes are springy too, if you apply pressure to them, they will rise back.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Yuzu roll:
Tried this semi frozen and I loved it because it tastes like icecream rolls with a fragrant yuzi taste.
It would be great if they serve frozen rolls for summer or I should get one and put it in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving.

Happy Hong Kong Day, Happy day in Hong Kong

After reading KC's review, tried the dishes he tried.

My last visit at Hong Kong Day was at the Peak for chicken steak and spring onion sauce.
I attempted to dine at the Tseung Kwan O branch because they were serving some fancy dinner in a rice cooker but the promotion was off when I got there.

The new branch at Shatin was nice and spacious, it was modernly decorated.

There are three recommended items here:
Volcanic Sukiyaki, Shrimp wonton with noodles in soup and Hong Kong day milk tea which we tried.

Almost every table was having the suyiyaki.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hong Kong day milk tea:
The tea came in a classic Hong Kong style cup.

It had all the signature smells and tastes that Hong Kong tea should have, you could smell the condensed milk that they put in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Volcanic Sukiyaki:
Eating the Sukiyaki was fun, there are instructions on the corner of the table if you get stuck.

There are two version of sukiyaki served with udon:
-pork volcanic sukiyaki
-American beef volcanic sukiyaki

Both are presented like volcanoes hence the name Volcano sukiyaki.

When your ready, they will turn on the gas.

Step 1: wait for the broth to start bubbling, gently unwind the pieces of meat and put it in the broth as if it were bubbling in molten lava!!!
Step 2: after the meat is cooked, stir in the pile of vegetables and it is ready to eat.

Step 3: after eating the meat and vegetables, you can now put the udon in to cook.

I loved eating this because the sukiyaki broth was sweet and rich and the vegetables blanched in the broth had a sweet and crisp crunch.
The udon was flavoured nicely by the broth and the texture of this udon was really nice and not too elastic.
Personally I preferred the pork because it was lean and fresh, but the beef was good too because it was American beef which is the beef that I like.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wonton noodles:
I love wonton noodles and you can enjoy them comfortably here without needing to share tables with others and in a clean environment.

Each strand of noodles was soft and distinct flavoured by the broth.
Beneath the noodles were tasty wontons that were springy and fresh with lean pork and prawns.

There were quite a few tastes in the broth too with some bitterness and sweetness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
It was fun dining at Hong Kong Day because they present their dishes in an entertaining way and the price is affordable.
The best thing is that you order from your seats and the food is brought over and then you pay your bill at the counter when you leave.

It's Banana time

Found out that there was a new Banana and chocolate drink so tried it.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Banana chocolate:

On first sip, it was too sweet!
There was a nice banana smell and the chocolate did not have a sour aftertaste, but the main problem was that the drink was too sweet.

A funky branch of McDonalds

The decor of this branch has some Japanese twist to it with solitary tables and privacy.

I liked the solitary cubicles and seats by the wall that have a comfortable leg rest too and an upside down plastic plant dangling from above.

Other tables with privacy.

New RED PERI SCORCHER from McDonalds

Found out about this new burger called the RED PERI SCORCHERfrom the paper.
Only noticed it because of the colourful stars which is quite similar to my openrice logo.

The red peri scorcher burger is NEW in HONG KONG but has already been launched in Singapore and Australia last year.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
RED PERI SCORCHER:

Made with Carolina Reaper chilis, habanero chilis, Naga Jolokia chilis and Peri Peri chilis.
The world's hottest chilis guarenteed to be a scorching sensation.

I really liked it because it was crispy marinated chicken thigh meat with cracker wheat and the sauce was spicy with a strong hint of lemon.
It had a really nice cajun smell just like the coating you find in Southern fried chicken.
The chili was fiery but it does not linger which is why I like African chilis.
