Shanghai food feast at Shanghai po po 336

Previously tried Shanghai Po Po 336 and admittedly the other branches are not as good and they do not offer as much variety as this branch.

Here was what we tried
*** means highly recommended
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Wuxi crispy eel:

Sweet and sour pork lovers will like this because the eel is crispy with a delicious complementing sweet and sour sauce.
The eel was boneless too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Black fungus in special sauce:

The black fungus was slightly sweet with tones of wasabi in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Drunken chicken in iced huadiao wine:

I loved this because the wine was frozen and served as crushed ice on top of the chicken with more wine beneath the chicken.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Smoked eggs:

Perfectly smoked with lovely runny yolks.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried string beans with olive and minced pork:

Nicely fried string beans with olives that gave it flavour.
There is also another dish with string beans and salted egg too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salted pork, bamboo shoots and beancurd soup:

The soup had a strong soy bean taste but I found it a tad too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried beef cubes with pistachio nuts and asparagus:

This was interesting because of the pistachio nuts, but it was nice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crispy prawns in salted egg yolk coating:

Huge crispy prawns in delicious crunchy salted egg coating.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed pork dumplings:

The pork dumplings were delicious with the vinegar which balanced out the oilyness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Sweet and sour fish with pinenuts:

The fish was nicely done coming off boneless and crispy with the sweet and sour sauce was just right.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Stir fried veal with wild chilis:

I didn't realize this dish was that spicy!!
People who love chilis with a real proper kick, this is the one!!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Video of the huge xiaolongbao:

***Steamed jumbo xiaolongbau!!!!!

I have always wanted to try this but couldn't find it in Hong Kong.
They used to do it at JieSheng in MK but I never got round to trying it because there is no where to sit.

The soup dumpling was huge and I asked for a straw to have it the way you see on TV.

The soup was at the right temperature so I did not burn my mouth.

After drinking the broth, I tore apart the dumpling skin and dipped it in the vinegar which made it even more appetizing.
The minced pork inside was the same size as the ones in the normal sized ones so the jumbo version will not stuff you up.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spring onion pancakes:

The pancakes were nice for dipping the strong sauces.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Salted egg fried rice:

Each grain of rice was covered in delicious crushed egg yolk giving it that lovely golden colour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Shanghai special chili wontons:

These innocent looking wontons were delicious but extremely spicy with a fragrant Sichuan peppercorn taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Fried pumpkin cake:

The pumpkin cakes were nice and crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle filled with lovely red bean puree.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Red beans and banana souffle balls:

The souffle balls were nicely done, filled with red bean puree and mushy banana.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Mini dumplings in rice wine and osmanthus with mixed fruits:

These little mochi dumplings were lovely in the rice wine and osmanthus soup because it was not too sweet.
The texture of the mochi dumplings were nice and chewy, but I would probably order the non fruit version because it was just canned fruit.
I would prefer fresh strawberries or blueberries instead of canned fruit.

Breakfast at McDonald's

Had this breakfast last year hence this review is quite old~

The best things in this breakfast were the scrambled eggs and muffin.
After adding salt and pepper, the scrambled eggs tasted better and the muffin and jam were good without the butter.

Nitrogen Ice Cream at East Point City

Ever since Chin Chin Labs opened in London I have been a fan of Ice-creams made with Nitrogen and the laboratory fun that comes with it.
The other two branches are smaller.

As expected there were so many curious people who have not seen icecream made like that before.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chinese Beancurd Dessert:

Fragrant tofu ice cream with lots of pieces of sweet beancurd that had a chewy texture topped with crispy ginko nuts which tasted like crisps.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
There will be another branch soon at Tuen Mun!!

Feisty curry from Tiger Curry

Tried this new curry joint on Pennington Road.
The name of this restaurant and the black camouflaged building sounded exciting at first however the seating is a little cramped sitting at the bar table.
Nice plate with a bold tiger on it.
Ordered the Curry chicken and the Curry bread sticks.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled curry chicken:
The curry is made from 18 different spices and from the taste you could taste that it was quite complex but I was not offered a choice for the level of spiciness.
Anyway, I found the curry too hot for my liking which probably could have been prevented if they had asked me my preferred level of spiciness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Curry bread sticks:
Their frying oil was relatively fresh so there was no rancidness in the bread and it was not soaked with oil.
The bread sticks tasted surprisingly good when it was dipped in the garlic butter sauce which had a heavy garlic taste, however the bread was too sweet for my liking because it was Asian bread.

Nice modern restaurant in Sai Kung

I found out about this new restaurant from a fast food owner in Sai Kung so decided to check it out.

It is opened by a local actor called Brian Wong 黃澤鋒 with chefs from Ireland and Portugal, which explains why they have my favourite English food on the menu.

They offer All day breakfasts and Portuguese snacks and on the second floor they serve Mediterranean food which I am looking forward to because the one and only Mediterranean restaurant Revolution Gallery Cafe has closed down.

I was really surprised with the prices because they were really affordable.
Grilled ham and cheese toast is only $48, English breakfast is really a good deal for $98 and if your looking for something light you can get beans on toast for $30.
For Portuguese flair I have got my eyes on the Bacalhau fish croquettes which only cost $45.

But unfortunately they were closing when I got to Sai Kung, so I only tried their Serradura pudding.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Serradura pudding $36:

Serradura is a layered chilled dessert made up of a sweetened, vanilla whipped cream and crushed biscuits.
It was really nice because it was not too sweet and the layers were light and silky balanced by the biscuit crumbs which were finely crushed.

Tofu day dreaming

This place used to be WTF!XDD which only survived for a short time before closing down.

Anyway, walked past and saw some flowers because it was just opened.
As I did not watch the show, I was not aware it was on this TV show called I AM BOSS which is basically a copy cat of Dragon's Den that was broadcasted ages ago in the UK.

Basically, this place just serves tofu pudding, soy milk, fishballs and shao mai.

They have used the tables to display items just like the shop before.

It was nice that they had quality tissue to use.

The staff seemed like they were daydreaming when I was asking them questions.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tofu pudding with condensed milk:

The tofu was silky and smooth but I couldn't really taste the soybeans.
As I don't normally have this I don't know if $22 for a bowl was reasonable or not, but I love the place because it is clean, air conditioned and in Central.
