Wanchai's second branch of 金輝點心

This is the second branch of 金輝點心 in WanChai, the other one is located on Spring Garden Lane.

I have never visited that branch before because it is always a battle between cars and pedestrians on that street.

Anyway, this branch is tucked away on Gresson Road by the busy market next to quite a few popular restaurants.

It is a fast paced restaurants with waitors whizzing in and out.

They have dim sum sets.

At the front, there is a counter that keeps all the dim sums hot.

Their hygiene has improved because on the first visit, the fried eggs were slapped in a plastic bag, but on the second visit they were on a metal plate in a plastic bag.

Prawn dumplings:

I did not like them because the skin was too chewy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed rice with spare ribs and chicken feet:

This was really good because the rice beneath it without soy sauce was flavoured.
After the sweet soy sauce was added, it tasted even better.
The chicken feet were nice and soft and the bones detached easily however the spare ribs were fatty and bony.

A Korean joint at Food Point

HonDim (Tseung Kwan O)
Not really a fan of Korean food so just tried their Kelp soup.

Tried it because it was new and at that time it was not listed so asked for the shop number with the intention of updating OpenRice's database with it, but the biatches were a bit concerned or thought it was weird. So I have not bothered to add this and waited for someone else to update it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Kelp soup:

I was surprised their was so much kelp in this soup, almost 70% was kelp.
There was a slight MSG taste in it and there were lots of clams in it too.

Sinmei Tea anniversary

Sinmei Tea (Sheung Wan)

Recently attended Sinmei's anniversary which was a fun gathering with Sinmei herself, foodies and meeting new people.

The lovely cat Mithu is still there and mischievous as ever.

Finally tried the Matcha brownie which I have not tried before, it was nutty and dense with a gorgeous grassy green tea taste.
The green tea molten cake was also good with delicious matcha sauce in the middle.

Back for more at Beef and Liberty

After a trying their falafel burger, I was craving for more so came back another day for it.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Falafel burger in a bowl:

Decided to go light and have salad for an extra $20 without the bun.
It was freshly tossed baby spinach leaves in vinaigrette.
The burger sauces were served separately which was great and the falafel patty was as tasty as before with hints of cumin and delicious lentils.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lemonade and mint:

I loved their fresh lemonade which was such a thirst quencher wiht a hint of mint.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple pie:

I loved their apple pie and requested to have cream instead of custard.

The whole combination was just divine because the thick cream emulsion paired well with the gently tart apple pie.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tomato sauce:

On the previous visit, they had organic Heinz ketchup.
This time they had ketchup from Essex.

Having snacks at a Herbal Tea joint

It was dinner time and everywhere was packed and noisy.

However this shop was empty because people just assume herbal tea places only serve snacks and tea eggs.

After I sat down, I spotted more snacks and ordered them.

As usual, after I sit down in an empty shop, people start to come in and dine there too!!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Shaomai:

The shaomai was the standard ones that they get from suppliers.
Made with ground fish and flour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Noodles:

There was Chinese radish, chicken wing tips, fishballs and pigs skin on top of mountain yam noodles in curry sauce.
According to the menu, it seems to say lemon curry but I could not taste any lemon, and the instant noodles just tasted like the usual ones but were thinner and it probably had an insignificant percentage of mountain yam but significant enough to claim it was mountain yam instant noodles.
The Chinese radish was a bit old and stringy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Malaysian Bak kut teh :

There was too much white pepper in it that you end up burning your throat before the herbal effects start to work.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Although there wasn't anything exciting about the food, it was better than being ripped off with rubbish food in that mall.

Bewitching with an Irish brunch

It was nice to see another Irish place open up because there are not many Irish restaurants in Hong Kong.

O'Phillie's Irish restaurant & pub is now a new competitor for Delaney's.

So far, I have only tried their lunch and brunch so I can't compare their roast yet.
The decor of this place is green and Celtic just what you would expect for the Irish culture.

The brunch menu was quite good, for the Full Irish breakfast, there was a half portion option.
I wonder if you would get half a black pudding in the half portion.

Here was what I ordered:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Smoked salmon scramble:

There was no apricot jam given as stated on the menu.
The scrambled egg was quite nice but the salmon could have been fresher because it tasted a bit fishy.
The Dublin hash was just an ordinary hash brown.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bewitching "Full" Irish breakfast:
I loved the name "Bewitching" for a breakfast because it sounded enchanting.
The full breakfast had: two pork sausages, two pieces of Irish smoked maple bacon, award winning black pudding, grilled tomato, baked beans, eggs, Dublin hash brown and toast with apricot jam.

When it arrived, there was no apricot jam or black pudding so I informed the waitor.

The Dublin hash was a bit disappointing because it was just the usual hash browns and they were quite oily.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Black pudding:

The missing black pudding was served when I nearly finished the breakfast.
It was different to the ones I have had before which come in slices and the black pudding skin was very tough to slice.

Receipt:

O'Phillie's Irish restaurant & pub
Shop 202, 2/F, QRE Plaza, 202 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai

A new Vietnamese eatery

華越小食 (Wan Chai)

This shop was opened a while ago and there was no one eating there so decided to try it.

Again, when one person goes into an empty restaurant, people will follow!!!

Basically they serve Vietnamese noodles, cart noodles and rices.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vietnamese lemongrass chicken with rice:

I suspect the chicken was fried twice because it was tasteless and dry.
Since the joint was new, I suspect it was leftovers that was not sold the previous day.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried pork neck with rice:

Luckily, this tasted better, the pork neck meat was extremely thinly sliced and it was lovely and crispy with a strong garlic taste.
