Still the King of Pork bone tea!~!~

It has been a while since I last wrote any reviews on Singaporean food or Malaysian food because there are not many new ones about.
The last one I visited was Nyonya Coming in Sai Ying Pun.
Decided to revisit Bak Kut King for their famous pork bone tea and some other dishes.
Here was what we had and it was interesting to similarities of Malaysian food and Thai food.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grapefruit and prawn salad:

Started off with a refreshing salad to begin dinner.
The grapefruit was juicy and the prawns were springy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Malacca Grilled fish cakes:

This looked similar to Thai fish cakes with lots of lemongrass in it, but unfortunately I am not fond of lemongrass so found it a bit too strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pork bone tea:

The pork bone tea was served with fried dough stick slices and black soy sauce.
It had a rich herb taste followed by sweetness and a hint of pepper.
As a personal preference I would like the dong gwai to be stronger which can be requested before you order.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Malaysian crispy pork knuckle:

The pork knuckles were amazing because the meat was soft with a hint of saltiness and the skin was extremely crispy with a slight chewy under side!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried winged beans with prawn paste and squid:

This was amazingly, a delicious combination of pungent prawn paste and squid.
The beans were crisp with a sweet centre.
Winged beans are grown in Asia where the humidity is high, and you can find them in most Thai and Indian shops looking like a long frilly leaf.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salty lemon soda:

I loved the soda because they gave you imported soda and not lemonade or 7up.
A real thirst quencher.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled stingray in Sambal sauce:

This is my favourite fish because the texture is soft and comes off the bone easily.
The Sambal sauce gave it a delicious kick of sweet and spiciness and the stingray was moist and delicate.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Toast with kaya and ube icecream:
This was a huge cube of toast filled with kaya in the middle paired with ube icecream.

This is a must eat item because the kaya paste is divine and not too sweet and the ube icecream is a perfect match with delicate taro flavours that does not over power the kaya taste.

The only thing that I did not like was the butter because it made it a bit heavy.
Apart from ube icecream, I would also like to try pairing it with unsweetened whipped cream or even better clotted cream!!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
To summarize I definitely recommend the stingray, pork knuckle, winged beans and the toast as dessert.

Pizza with nduja sausage at Pizzeria JACOMAX (Sheung Wan)

Discovered this delicious Italian nduja sausage which is like a paste, so I ordered a plain pizza with nduja sausage.

The pizza was delicious, the base was thin and crispy and soft in the middle.
It was really tasty because there was thick tomato puree spread on it and the nduja sausage was spicy and salty which made the pizza delicious.

Starbucks deformed red velvet cake

Although LLWL has reviewed this, I still wanted to try it even though I knew the taste was going to be bad.
There were quite a few in the cabinet and one was deformed with the filling exposed.

I knew I was going to served the deformed one but I couldn't be bothered to ask her for a different one as I knew it wasn't going to taste good.

Here was my deformed red velvet cake.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
deformed red velvet cake:

The taste was weird, and the cake was dense and mushy with a strong buttery smell and taste.
As it was deformed the filling was not runny but it a thick paste!
There are no other words to describe the taste other than a dough taste with smelly butter.
It reminded me of Kid's Calpol fever medicine which is thick and has a bright pink colour.
For Xmas I would have appreciated berries and not red beans on top because I hate red beans!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Although the cake was crap, the Xmas drinkware was quite nice.

My favourite one!

$20 for a bowl of yummy noodles at 豆花妹撈米線 (Mong Kok)

豆花妹撈米線 (Mong Kok)

I love these noodles, they are cheap and addictive.
The noodles are always soft and the meat sauce is strong with a fragrant Sichuan peppercorn taste.

This time I got the big bowl which was only $20.
The noodles were just as good but they were not that spicy this time.

New panfried Vegetable dumplings at 八方雲集鍋貼水餃專門店

八方雲集鍋貼水餃專門店 (Tseung Kwan O)

If your a regular here, you will know that all their dumplings are meat based.
They have launched a new dumpling which is meat free.
But saying that, it is probably cooked on the same pan that meat dumplings are cooked so if you are on a strict vegetarian diet, these are not for you.
Seemingly healthy because they are meat free, they are still panfried so they are just as bad a the meat version except that it is less fatty.

This joint is extremely tiny.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
panfried Vegetable dumplings:

The dumplings were quite nice but the dumpling skin was weak which didn't hold the dumpling together.

The filling was moist with a nice crunch filled with carrots, cabbage, black ear fungus and burdock.

Guacamole, chicken and egg sandwich at A-1 Bakery (Lok Fu)

They had a nice selection of sandwiches.

There was a choice of: The club, pastrami, smoked salmon, guacamole and chicken.

I had my eyes on the salmon and the guacamole so in the end I got the guacamole.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Guacamole, chicken and egg sandwich:

There was quite alot of filling in the sandwich but it was not even because the edges were empty.
Anyway, the sandwich was really good because the avocado was really creamy, and it was filled with egg and chicken as well which made it filling.
The guacamole element was a bit disappointing because there was no guacamole at all, it was just plain avocado which you can't really call guacamole!
The charcoal walnut bread was nice and nutty.

Pina colada froyo from Appolo

Appolo (Tseung Kwan O)

I have been addicted with these froyos because everytime I try a new fruit combination my mind is already thinking ahead on the next visit.

This time I had the pineapple and coconut.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pina colada froyo:

The pineapple and coconut was actually really good because it tastes like pinacolada and the pineapple chunks are juicy and refreshing.
However the pineapple and coconut bits can be rather woody because all the juice is drawn out when they are constantly stored in the freezer.
