Eating straight from the rice cooker!!

Saw the rice cooker on the menu last year but I was not quick enough to try it.

As they are now serving it again I finally got the chance to try it.

The rice cooker meal is served straight out of the rice cooker.

There are four rice cooker meals to choose from:

Chicken and preserved sausages

Pork patty with salty fish

Pickled vegetables, fish and pork belly

Beef and egg

Ordered two rice cookers because there were two of us.
Chinese tea was complimentary with the meal.

It takes about 15 - 20 minutes for the rice cooker to arrive and you get that fun feeling when it arrives because it is a REAL rice cooker.

It's one of those fun gimmicks to post on social media to get likes and people wouldn't have guessed that you were dining out!

Steamed rice with egg $56:

You are given an egg to crack on top of the patty, if you don't fancy a raw egg you can request for a fried egg.

After a few minutes, it is ready to eat.

I really liked this one because the beef patty was soft and there were lots of crunchy water chestnuts in it and a lovely flavour from the coriander which went nicely with the rice.

steamed rice with pork belly, fish and preserved vegetables $58:

The highlight of this were the preserved vegetables because it made the pork and fish tasty and the fish was extremely silky as well.

Omakase at Shika Teppan-Yaki

Shika Teppan-Yaki (Causeway Bay)

Shika is an interesting restaurant, they serve Omakase and Teppan-Yaki.
For Teppan-Yaki, there is a Teppan-Yaki area.

That night I tried the Omakase.

There was a huge cabinet full of seafood.

The menu was really classy with gold and silver specks on it.

There were two Omakase sets to choose from: Shika $988 or Iki $818.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Shika $988:
Appetizer, 6 kinds of sashimi, steamed/stewed dish, grilled dish, 5 pieces of assorted sushi, soup and dessert
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Iki $818:
Appetizer, 5 kinds of sashimi, fried dish, grilled dish, 5 pieces of assorted sushi, soup and dessert
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Went for the Iki as I wasn't hungry that day.

Started with the appetizer which was salmon, octopus and fried fish.

The salmon was poached nicely and the fried fish was appetizing.
After that we had the sashimi which was fresh with a lot of variety.

Five kinds of sashimi:

The scallops were sweet and fragrant dusted with yuzu powder.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried dish:

The tempura was light and crispy with a good mix of vegetables and seafood.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled dishes:

Then came the abalone which was sweet and tender.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
5 kinds sushi
As well as great sashimi, the sushi was even better.

I loved the tuna with grated ginger on top.

Then there was botan prawn with prawn roe on top.

The minced fatty tuna and sweet prawn was also good.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
soup:
The soup was impressive because it was not the usual boring miso soup.
It was delicious milky fish soup.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dessert:

After all that I was full and it was time for dessert!
The tofu icecream was a good to the meal because it was light and not too sweet.

You're not alone

One evening I was having dinner at Shanghai Lo at 8pm so before that I had plenty of time so decided to go Karoake before that.
When I got to Neway, I had Shanghai Lo confused with Lo Shanghai because the Chinese letters are the same but in different order.

Ironically, both these restaurants have a Karoake bar in the same building.
Shanghai Lo has Neway in the same building while Lo Shanghai has Red MR.

Anyway, registered for a room and it was kind of embarassing because I quiety said a room for one and the girl at the counter had to bloody repeat it loud and clear which got the other peoples attention!

The girl at the reception was promoting the most expensive package to me which I didn't need because I was having dinner afterwards so I didn't really want the stupid buffet.
I asked if there was any cheaper package and she suggested the happy hour which lasts for an hour and a half including one drink which was perfect for me.

Settled down and ordered the green tea which turned out to be too sweet and it tastes different to the ones they served before.

I used to think its weird to go alone but ever since top blogger Marshy went alone I decided to try it for myself so to all you serious singers out there, you are not alone!
There are so many advantages going alone!
You can stop/repeat/jump songs whenever you want and you can hear your voice clearly and concentrate more.

Black dried shrimps at Pho Saigon

As soon as I got the menu, the waiter gave me 2 seconds to look at the menu and expected me to order by standing there like a lemon.

Ordered the 檬粉 mung noodles in crab roes and tomato broth.

When it came, it was just ordinary rice noodles in the broth.

There were pieces of pitch black dried shrimps which looked like mice droppings.

The crab roe was the weirdest crab roe I have seen, it was crap and clumped together, the taste and texture was so weird.

As for the beef, it was dry and salty.

This restaurant has a weird style because they sprinkle sesame on top of almost everything.

Finally tried Louie Bakery's cakeI

I have always wanted to try this cake shop but Fanling is too far away, finally tried it because someone ordered the cake for a private party at Ar Hung's delicacies.

The cake was huge and the icing structure was fully supported with a chocolate slab that was pushed into the cake just like how they drive piles in the ground for supporting buildings on top.

Anyway, beneath the fancy icing was a soft sponge cake layered with cream and fruit.
The cake was quite nice and not too sweet.

This place has got the balls to serve

I have always wanted to try this place because they serve meatballs, the thing that makes them special is that it is not only pork or beef but they have fish, chicken and vegetarian balls!!

This place has got the balls to serve !!! So finally gave them a visit.

The menu before was better because they had roast suckling pig meatballs.

At first the waitress was really annoying because I had only sat down for like a few minutes and she was expecting that I was ready to order.
But anyway, she wasn't so annoying afterwards.

Here was what I had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bread:
This was given as a starter.
The bread was tough and chewy but the butter was worth mentioning because it was dusted with olive powder on the side.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken fondue:

Chicken | Parmesan fondue | Asparagus
The chicken meatballs were slightly dry and the parmesan sauce tasted a bit sour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Codballs:

Mediterranean cod fish | Anchovy | French fries | Coffee mayo.
I was expecting it to be tastier but it was bland and the potatoes were clumpy.
The chips were good though.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dining environment:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
According to their website, there is another menu so the menu I saw was probably not the best of choices.
NOM – Not Only Meatballs (Central)
