Glamourous sushi at Shiro

To be honest I have not dined here before but when I saw the new range of crystal sushi I had to try it because who does not like pretty things.
Shiro are so popular that they will now be debuting in London at 100 Liverpool Street in the summer!

The crystal sushi series are sushi topped with flavoured jelly which is clear and glistens.

The most impressive one was the rose.

I loved the crystal sushi because when you ate it, the jelly melts in your mouth releasing the flavour.
Here were what I had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Non alcoholic mojito:

Started off with lychee and mint mojito which was refreshing with a fragrant lychee taste and cooling mint.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Houren sou goma ae:

This was spinach served with a side of self grated sesame sauce.

It was amazing that there was so much spinach in a portion which tasted delicious with the thick sweet sesame sauce that had a fragrant toasted sesame taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bluefin tuna with Japanese dashi jelly sushi $65:

I loved this one because bluefin tuna has a strong unami taste which went well with the dashi jelly that had a smokey flavour.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deluxe scallop with caviar and sake rose jelly sushi $65:

This was simply beautiful with a light taste complemented by the rosy sake jelly on top.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fatty salmon with fried garlic and yuzu jelly sushi $55:

It was beautiful how they put layers of jelly in between the sushi.
This one had a sweet citrus taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Botan ebi and uni roll with ume sauce on ponzu jelly $85:

This was a tasty one with strong and creamy flavours.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Yellowtail with kimchi sauce and Shochu jelly sushi $55:

This had a spicy kick to it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wagyu Beef with leek onion and black truffle jelly sushi $85:

Last but not least was the beef which was had a delicious strong truffle flavour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Nameko no miso shiru:

This was tofu and nameko mushroom miso soup which was loaded with earthy nameko mushrooms.

Curry ramen at Butao Ramen (Central)

I have always wanted to try the curry ramen at Butao and it was finally served last month so I went there and tried it.

The curry ramen has potato crisps on top.

When you order it, you have to tick the monthly special.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Curry ramen:

The curry taste was quite strong but I did not like the chili flakes that made it spicy because I prefer curry spices.
Anyway I found it too spicy for my liking and I felt that the curry ramen at Ippudo is better.

Niigata delights

I was recommended this place because they serve lots of dishes from Niigata in Japan.
As we were a big group, we tried the set meal for one which costs $780 and some a la carte dishes.
The set meal was quite good because there were quite a few good items included, it even had Niigata rice which is cooked in the copper pots when you go into the restaurant.

Here were the items in the meal, followed by some a la carte items that we shared.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Appetizer:

There were two pieces of sushi (Japanese sea urchin, lean bluefin tuna), steamed egg custard with prawn and Salmon roe with grated radish.
The bluefin tuna was a delight, the taste was strong with a brilliant umami aftertaste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:

This was a clear steamed prawn dumpling soup with a springy prawn patty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sashimi:

On the sashimi plate were Ikijine Japanese amberjack, medium fatty bluefin tuna, seabream and Northern prawn.
All of them were fresh and tasty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tempura:

The delicate tempura coating on the Prawn and Japanese vegetables were nice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled food:
Sado city style salt grilled rosy seabass

The fish was delicate and silky.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Main dish:

The A5 wagyu rib eye was grilled on the hot stone which lets you control how well you want the beef done and mine ended up juicy and tender.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Simmered dish:
Simmered thornyhead rockfish

Compared to the first fish, the texture was silkier and it was covered in an appetizing sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice:
Sakura prawn with Niigata Koshihikari rice cooked in tradtional copper pot.

As a carbs lover, this was my favourite because the rice was soft and slightly sticky mixed with delicious sakura prawns that gave it a savoury taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
We also had the plain Niigata Koshihikari rice served with seakelp, roe and pickles.

This was delicious as well, the simplicity of rice that had a natrual sweetness paired with strong tasting sides.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Niigata salmon sakebitashi

The slices of dried fish were soaked in sake which tones down the pungent flavour while releasing the aromatic salty taste of the preserved fish.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stone grilled pork roast “koshi gold”

The pork was juicy and lean.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tochio specialty: jumbo fried tofu

This was another favourite of mine because the tofu was springy and soft.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Niigata local specialty Noppe

The vegetables in light gravy were perfect for balancing the heavy dishes served earlier.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese vegetables assortment with 2 kinds of miso [snow aged miso used]

These vegetables were another delight, they were sweet and crunchy paired with miso.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
To summarize, the copper pot Niigata Koshihikari rices and the bluefin tuna were fantastic.

Waffles with a purple centre at Summer Ice

Came here for the purple waffles.
They were pretty and would make a great post on instagram to get likes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Purple waffles:

I am not quite sure what the hype is but I found them too hard and dry but this is the way the locals like their waffles. HARD!

The waffles were definitely sweet but you couldn't really taste the purple potatoes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I will be back for the sweet potato latte so that I can compare it to the one at Gaba concept.

salty roasted potatoes

As well as rice, I was craving for potatoes so went here and got a tub for $28.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Roasted potatoes:

The potatoes were nicely cut, each one was bite sized and uniform.
As for the taste, they were a bit too salty and not soft enough

Hydrating golden drink at YU

Came here especially for a drink and nothing else, so before I sat down I asked them if it was ok to just order a drink and they said yes so I sat down.

On the drinks menu, there were two drinks that I wanted to get:
-Cucumber soy milk
-Jasmine tea with bean jelly

As I was having dinner afterwards, I chose the tea.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Jasmine bean jelly tea:

There were longan berries in it.

I have tried this before and this time it was so much better because it was just slightly sweet with a strong Jasmine taste.
There was lots of jelly at the bottom which was refreshing and cooling.
