Crispy fish at 忠記咖啡屋

Went here again for lunch and there was not much on the lunch menu to choose from.
The chicken is there everyday, then there was stir fried beef noodles, steamed meat patty, pork chop or fish.
I got the fish because chicken is risky and you might get skin and bones.
The fish was nice and crispy when it arrived so I quickly scraped off the nasty sweetcorn sauce and had it with rice and added chili sauce which tasted good.

The bittermelon soup was really nice because it had a nice bitterness to it and there were pieces of bittermelon that you could eat.

Thick duck broth at 十八座狗仔粉

This place is famous for the doggie noodles with the first branch in Jordan and now they have branches everywhere.

Although I have not tried it, I tried their modern joint in Causeway Bay called GUM JENG for other snacks but not the soup.
Went here and tried the duck soup for $20 which is really cheap and it was quite a big bowl.
It was really nice, basically thick gravy in my definition with fine strands of duck in it.
Personally I would rather dip chips in it.

The soup was loaded with shredded black fungas, duck and glass vermicelli, which has been soaked in soup for too long because the glass vermicelli was fat like angel hair!
It was quite salty so I really think it could go with rice or chips and it would be good if the duck meat wasn’t disintegrated into silk because it makes the soup look cloudy.
They had this other option of soup with duck leg which seems messy to eat but duck and gravy should taste nice.

Weak broth but spicy enough at 川味美食

Randomly went here because I was in the area and the place that serves lovely instant noodles with liver was closed.
The noodles here are either served in broth or mixed with sauce but the choices are not that flexible because you can’t mix and match the broths with different noodles or I must have misinterpreted the menu.

Anyway, it was fairly cheap costing $20/$21 so it didn’t matter if it wasn’t good.
The one with ramen noodles with too spicy.

The flat noodles fared better.
When it arrived, it was too hot, so all you could taste was the chili.

After it cooled down, you could taste the pork broth but it was weak with a weird mint taste as well.
The broth could have been better hence tastier noodles but for that price its forgivable.
Tried the dinner set at Check-In Taipei

Here was what we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Started with the starter which consists of chicken waffle, ping pong and crispy knuckle.

The chicken waffle was was really good, it was crispy chicken paired with appetizing pineapple on a sweet piece of waffle.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
For drinks I had the lemon aiyu which was refreshing with delicious jelly at the bottom.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
I loved the Mapo noodles because it was my favourite fettucine noodles with spicy tofu on top.
A brilliant pairing.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
The other main was creamy risotto with pork belly slices and the pork belly was thin and crispy just like bacon.
Although it looked like a rice pudding, the risotto was savoury and nice.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
creme brulee:

Ended the meal with this sweet creme brulee which had a nice eggy taste.

A secluded place for celebrities at King's Choice

This place is well hidden, hence a popular spot for celebrities.
It is hidden in an alley between Hennessey Road and Wan Chai Road.

There are no windows hence the paparazzi can't take photos unless they are inside the restaurant.
That night I saw 許懷欣 Ryan Hui.

There is a basic menu but they will have some specials and signature dishes.
Customers can also suggest or tell the restaurant what sort of food they want and it can be arranged.
The food I had was arranged by my friend because they booked the dinner.

Here was the food I had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Crispy pork knuckles:
Started with this nice crispy knuckle which was soaked in loshui sauce and fried.
The skin was crisp and not oily while the meat was tender and soft without being too salty.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Prawn in gravy:
It was a springy prawn which had the texture and taste like a lobster in sweet gravy which is made with this rice thing that they ferment wine with.
There were fried mantaus to dip this gravy.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Soup:
For the soup, it was almond and lungs soup which was nourishing and creamy with a fragrant almond taste.
There were also chicken feet in it as well.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Lobster and udon noodles:

I was quite surprised by the udon because it was actually tasty and hung the spring onion gravy quite well from the lobster.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Tofu:
The tofu was made by the restaurant and it was soft and supple with an eggy taste because it was similar to the Japanese egg tofu.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Ribs cooked in Chinese olive sauce:
The ribs were really good because it had a crispy coating and it was similar to sweet and sour pork but it had a stronger savoury taste because of the Chinese olives.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Vegetables in soup:
As you can see, the greens were young and luscious.
I love to eat the hearts of vegetables because they are tender and sweet.
The broth was light and healthy which was great to drink.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Lotus rice:
I was quite full by this stage but the rice was good because it had a rich gravy taste and not overpowered by the fried rice taste.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Almond dessert soup:
Finished with this almond soup which was not too sweet with a pleasant almond taste.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
To summarize I liked this place because they can serve the food in single portions so you don't have to pick it from the main plate which is quite bothersome sometimes and you don't have to rinse the dishes in hot water before the meal.
