Bread Ahead doughnuts

Bread ahead is like the doughnut king at Borough market, you will always find queues at the stall.
It is also a bakery school hence you can expect quality bakery.
Finally gave their doughnuts a try which start at £2 for a plain one where filled ones cost £4.50.
To summarize their doughnuts are well filled with so many indulgent choices like pistachio, Eton mess, honeycomb etc.
I felt that I had to try a plain as well as pistachio and vanilla custard which was a popular choice.
Overall, I enjoyed the plain one the most as it was simple and satisfying, the texture of the doughnut was spot on being soft with a chew and slightly bready.
The filled custard was a bit too rich for me and the pistachio creme lacked pistachio taste.
To summarize I would only reccommend the plain and definitely a bargain for £2 if you compare it to other plain ones which cost more than that at kiosks and other cafes.

Revisited again in late august 2024 because of the new black to school doughnut.
Great to see a notable bakery doing old fashioned back to school jam cream doughnuts in a touristy area so more people can know about it.
Overall, you get the bread ahead signature fluffy and soft doughnut with jam and a custardy cream.
It was quite nice but the frying oil was a bit strong which you can taste on the doughnut surface.
The custard was not too sweet but a little starchy and the seeds were a little bit annoying.

Greggs Bakery opens in Leicester Square

In this day and age, it is sad to see many traditional British bakeries struggle and many have disappeared like Percy Ingles.
It is good to see that Greggs have been successful with so many branches and they even did a collab with Primark and launched some great clothing merchandize with another round in August 2022.
Greggs have always been affordable serving delicious sausage rolls and bakes as well as vegan options.
A few weeks ago they opened right in the heart of Leicester so you can get your sausage roll cravings satisfied which will provide a cheap fix in amongst all the expensive eateries nearby!
On a super hot day, I went to the opening and queued up for the VIP access where you get a non alcoholic bubbly and a delicious free sausage roll.
Overall, I had an amazing time saw Queen Pasty!

Greggs kept everyone hydrated that day giving out Greggs water!

Early scallop breakfast at Billingsgate cafe

Most people visit Billingsgate fish market for fresh seafood as they supply wholesale.
Sadly when I visited many years ago for oyster I didn't know about the cafe which serves scallops and other stuff like kipper and fish etc.
Ever since I found about the scallops I have been meaning to go but the cafe closes around 9am so best to get there really early so you have time to enjoy the breakfast.
I really wish I had found out earlier as the prices have increased so much.
Finally made it one day when it was one of those days where you some how wake up really early so I took that opportunity and went by impulse.
Overall, I was so glad I went!!!
Not only did they have scallop breakfasts, they had an amazing selection of teas like apple crumble which come from ASDA!!
More fascinating, I was stunned why there were noodles on the menu so I asked what sort of noodles they were and they said it was Chinese noodles which are available on Monday mornings.
So in a way, it has made me curious to go and check it out sometime but it really takes effort to get up and go there.
Since I was there, I ordered the scallop bacon roll and scallop breakfast all to myself!
The crusty roll was amazing and the scallops were as good as expected, fresh and bouncy.
The bacon was on the dry and hard side though.

Fried chicken from Miss Millies at Walthamstow

To be honest, I have never heard of Miss Millies before until I made a recent visit to Walthamstow.
I was attracted to the restaurant because it was similar to KFC.
Unfortunately, I wasn't quite impressed because the chicken coating was rather salty and the gravy lacked a chickeny taste like KFC.
The fries were not too my liking as they didn't have that potatoey taste.
After googling Miss Millies, it turns out that it is founded by two partners Harry Latham and Ray Allen who opened the first KFC franchise in the UK.

Dark Chocolate Malteser cake from Honesty Baked In by Hummingbird Bakery

Finally, we now have dark chocolate maltesers in the UK so we don't have to get the Austrailian version.

I have tried the Aussie version in 2011 but found it too sweet despite being dark and there was white chocolate in it as well.
The UK dark chocolate version is much nicer as it isn't so sweet and you can really taste the cocoa in the dark chocolate coating.
Dark Maltesers have taken over Hummingbird bakery for one day in South Kensington to unleash the dark side of people by dishing out free cakes with personalized messages reflecting our dark side such as eat with your mouth closed, I don't understand my job etc.
There were two cakes to choose from, a chocolate and a chocolate cardamon by 2021 Bake-Off finalist Crystell Pereira.
I opted for the chocolate so that I could see how their regular chocolate cakes taste like.
The chocolate cake was amazing, from the rich moist chocolate cake to the lovely chocolate coating.

Crosstown seasonal Nectarine and Cherry doughnut

Although Crosstown doughnuts are pricey, they do pay off because the texture and taste it good.
I got hooked on their doughnuts after trying the pandan one and the plain iced ones.
Expect a bready doughy texture for their doughnuts and bits of chia seeds which helps the doughnuts go fluffy according to the shop.
This time I got the seasonal Nectarine and Cherry doughnut which cost me a whopping 4.75!!!
I suppose it was really tasty and the filling was loaded with refreshingly tart nectarine puree balanced by the amazing fuscia pink sweet cherry icing.

Rhubarb lemonade at Pret A manger

It's been a while since I've last visited Pret A Manger.
I was there on the hottest day because I needed to hydrate myself so got the rhubarb lemonade which is something I have been wanting to try for ages.
There are so many Pret  A Manger branches and I happened to be near Carnaby Street so visited the one on 9 Argyll St, London W1F 7TG.
I wasn't sure what to expect on the rhubarb lemonade but the taste was so refreshing and sharp with a great fizz.
