New Brazilian restaurant in South Croydon

A new Brazilian restaurant just popped up in South Croydon, looking vibrant and lively so I decided to go and check out the food.
It has the usual suspects like feijoada, steaks, croquettes etc.
Since I have already tried croquettes, feijoada at other places, I ordered the coração acebolado (stir fried chicken hearts) with some rice and feijao carioca (beans).
When, the food arrived, I thought I saw a huge bowl of butter beans which turns out to be the chickens hearts.
It's not that I didn't know they were chicken hearts but I did not expect that much in a starter!
The amount of chicken hearts in there could have been a whole battery of chickens.
Visually you could could see like 30 and there are more beneath so imagine how many chickens for this dish as obviously you only get one heart per chicken.
Anyway, although these were probably frozen hearts, they actually tasted quite nice, it was sort of metallic with a chew.
I liked the way it was not overly seasoned so you can appreciate how they taste.
The sides were good for complimenting and I like the way you are given the sauces etc like the mayo, ketchup avocado etc.
Overall, I was really impressed with this visit and will probably go back for the salt cod stew.
The waitress was really helpful especially on the food because most staff just read from the menu when you ask what the dish is.

Build your own cheese box by Grape & Fig

Build your own cheese box by Grape & Fig.
I love cheese especially with nuts, berries, chutneys and all that.
Enter Grape & Fig, a bar where you can build your own cheese box for £12.50.
The cheese and complementing range is impressive so what's not to like especially when you get to choose most of it.
First, you choose three cheeses, then the condiments/relish.
There are cheese samples which help you decide.
I was going to choose the honey because I saw a honeycomb chunk featured on their instagram but it didn't seem to be there so I got the mustard.
The fresh cherry wasn't seen either so it is probably seasonal.
All their condiments are from Tiptree.
Basically you progress from the left to right of the cabinet with antipasti, nuts, dried fruit etc.
The dried golden sultanas looked stunning compared to the ones I've seen, so I had to have them.
Figs are sliced to order, hence looking fresh and perfect.
Last but not least, they garnish the box with edible flowers.
As you can imagine, each bite was heaven, a bit of this and a bit of that.

Pret's Almond bakewell slice and new finds

Pret have launched a new menu and I was captivated by the peach bakewell slice.
The rest are just satay and Thai inspired bowls and wraps.
The peach bakewell as nice as expected because of the dried peach and jam but a bit too buttery for my liking.

Sheeryakh ice cream

Since last year, I have been meaning to try Sheeryakh which is Afghan ice cream.
It has this stunning presentation like a tall pile of ice cream.
Several visits to Watani in Ilford failed because it was closed or did not open.
The other branches are in the West or North which requires effort.
Finally visited Sundaes gelato harrow which had it, the video and photo at the shop front seemed to show what I wanted.
The Sheeryakh here did not contain rose like the other places which was good.
Anyway, ordered Breakfast tea, Afghan Green tea and Sheeryakh.
Just a quick comment on drinks, the Breakfast tea tasted more like Chai and the Green tea was much palatable minus the cardamom.
The Sheeryakh was disappointing in terms of presentation because it came in the form of scoop in drizzled in milk and clotted cream.
The menu is confusing because the photo at the shop window shows how the Sheeryakh normally looks if you google it while the picture on the menu was the scoops same as the one I received.
