Sourdough Sophia

One of the best bakeries in London.
As one of the best bakeries in London, I had to try them out.

Ube Pride June special cruffin.
Sourdough Sophia is a notable bakery so best to get there early to avoid disappointment.
The purple creme cruffin was unsuspectingly ube as it was not labelled and I am so glad I got it as it is only available for June.
It is interesting they had an Asian flavour amongst the range.
The ube isn't strong or starchy but it was like silky fresh cream.
The texture of the cruffin was so soft and flakey with so many distinct layers.
Albeit the ube being too sweet it was well filled.
Overall, definitely recommended.

Smoked trout with herby schmear on sourdough.
Sourdough Sophia is a notable bakery so best to get there early to avoid disappointment.
You can also pre order but I felt that the smoked trout is not worth pre ordering as the ones ready to go are better which I got exchanged because the colour of the trout I got was dull and not as vibrant as the ones at the counter.
The smoked trout was delicious especially if you like dill and pickled onions.
Paid 8.50

Sophie Bow:
An instaworthy bow pastry with super crispy stands filled with passionfruit curd.
Overall, it was nice but the passionfruit lacked refreshing and sharp vibes as it was to sweet.

Duck curry roti at Roti Joupa, Stratford

Trini roti with duck curry!
Discovered more Caribbean food so I had to try it.
Caribbean food is not just jerk, goat curry, patties and dumplings but there is more!
Down south of the Caribbean, you will find Trinidad and Tobago which are two islands that form one nation.
Their cuisines are quite similar to Jamaican yet very different.
What got me curious was Trini food because they have duck on the menu.
Their roti's are interesting because it looks like a wrap with curry inside.
I got the duck curry roti which was interesting because it comes on the bone even though it is in a wrap so I'm guessing you eat it open.
The duck curry tasted like Indian spinach curry with a savoury taste so I really liked it.
The texture of the roti was different as it was quite crumbly like gluten free wraps.
Also tried the mac and cheese which was really tasty made with penne.
For drinks tried the mauby which is made with tree bark.
It is an acquired taste so if you like aniseed with bitterness, that's your drink.

Fish and Chips at JJ's Plaice, Stevenage

Another place for fish and chips which are the real deal.
The memorable thing about this place is the menu and condiments.
You will find spam fritters to cheese and Onion Fry its which are rare down South.
What I was impressed was the condiments because they had Himalayan salt, Peri Peri Salt to mint sauce and buffalo sauce.
These are all bonuses because the star of the show fish and chips have to be good and they delivered.
The onion fry its remind me of cheese and onion slices mixed with mashed potato.

Grab and go sushi from Honi Poke

Honi Poke, another Hawaiian poke chain I thought.
Although I did not get their poke, I have been eyeing their grab and go sushi for a while because they looked good on every visit in the sense the sushi was neat, uniform and the sashimi were decent cuts that were fresh.
Finally gave them a try and it did not disappoint.
I have only visited the Farringdon branch so I can't rate whether they are consistently good as a chain.
I got the premium sushi set which had salmon and tuna.
Overall, the sashimi and rice were both good so money well spent.
I liked the way the sushi rice texture had a chew like Thai Dessert rice and it was not too soft and held together well.
The roasted sesame were actually functional it was tasty unlike other places were they are tasteless.
Will definitely keep in this in mind again if I run out of options.

Shake Shack opens at St Pancras

A few weeks ago, Shake Shack opened at St Pancras were they were giving away custard and free fries.
I only dined there recently because of the new Green Curry menu where I had the Green curry fries and Thai Tea Shake.
The fries come with green curry mayo, ale marinated shallots and spring onion.
It was on the salty side but it was nice especially the mayonnaise which was gingery with a mild heat.
The Thai tea was also nice because it was not as strong or as sweet as the authentic Thai teas ones which taste funny.
Overall, glad I tried.

Etles Uyghur Restaurant, Walthamstow

Another Urghur restaurant which is off the radar but nice.
It was a bit pricey considering it was not in Central London.
Anyway, tried the Diced Leghmen with Lamb, Liangfen and Etken Chay Uyghur Tea.
The Leghmen or Legmen is basically pulled noodles.
Here they serve proper pulled noodles which you can tell from the texture while some restaurants just use pre made udon.
The one we had was diced noodles [chopped] which is chunky cubes of noodles.
The liangfen beans noodles was like jelly but the sauce needed more depth as it was just spicy, garlicky and tangy, it needed some umami like soy sauce.
For drinks, had the Etken Chay which is salted tea served in a bowl which I found really similar to Nepalese butter tea which is also salty.
The Etken tea was to my liking as it was savoury and the tea base was very much like Earl Grey without the bergamot.
Overall, glad I tried and worth trying if you are in the area.
Currently, there are two branches, one in Walthamstow and the other North West.
