It was a baked dish.
Usually the Chinese baked dishes are tomato sauce or cheese based with seafood or pork chops.
However this one was garlic and black bean, and usually in Chinese cooking it is in the form of a clear gravy, but the sauce for this dish was creamy!!!! Not like the traditionary clear brown gravy with garlic and black beans.
I assumed it was going to be served in a ceramic dish with the rice beneath the fish, but the rice was served separately and it was plain boiled rice too which is better than fried rice.
The fish was on a bed of vegetables including Aubergine, carrots and potatoes.
The sauce was quite nice, it was a bit like gravy with the black bean flavouring, however I would have preferred a stronger black bean taste.
The colour and consistency reminded me of Chinese black pepper steak gravy but without the pepperiness.
At the bottom of the dish there was about a teaspoon of oil.
