Fairwood's Ramen King in white, black and Red

I never thought I would be trying the ramen at Fairwood because I just assumed Fairwood would be packed with people and the price of the food is quite expensive for self-service style.

The Ramen King is only served at lunch and DINE in only.
There are three different types, which are associated with colour the same as Butao: Black, Red and White. White is the most basic ramen which comes in pork broth, red is the spicy one and black is black garlic oil. All the ramen have a pork broth, topped with thinly sliced roast pork, black fungus, kelp, garlic puree, spring onion and an egg.

Black Ramen King On the product shot there was generous black garlic oil and on the real thing it was barely visible.

For those who have not tried black garlic oil and are hoping to try it through the black king I suggest they can try Nissin’s black garlic oil instant noodles.
The sachet of black garlic oil from Nissin is more generous!!!
If it is someone’s first time trying black garlic oil, they are not going to get any memorable impression.
Other than that, I felt that these noodles were Jongkonised starting from the Chinese style broth which was really thin and the egg was hard poached too.
The pureed garlic was quite nice but not freshly made garlic puree and the noodles were similar to spaghetti which was really soft and thick. As for the soup it was quite tasteless that I had to add some chili from the other Red Ramen bowl.

This was basically the same as the above but served with chili oil which was so Chinese!
It had preserved beans in it, the exact same taste as Ja Jiang chili sauce.
Although it is not authentic ramen, the chili sauce made it quite delectable because of the preserved beans.

Scrambled eggs with truffle @ Fairwood

Made an effort to get up for breakfast, luckily the truffle and egg has been a popular pick for the locals, so it has been on the Ala Carte for a while.

I really did not expect anything for the truffle to taste like the real thing, but just wanted to give it a try. The real truffle is very expensive, so I do not expect Fairwood to offer the expensive stuff, same as Pizzahut, so it seems there is a low grade version or truffle essence or oil is used for the cheaper end of the market.

Anyway, ordered the set with chicken steak and gravy, toast and freshly grounded coffee.
The coffee had lovely white froth covering it. I do not drink coffee, but that coffee was good, no sour taste to it, and the milk was just right. The chicken was also good, the skin was crispy.
Then the egg was just scrambled with finely chopped mushrooms on the top mimicking the truffle, with truffle oil on top.
For people who have not experienced truffle before, there is a slight hint of truffle to it, but for experienced trufflers, it is not that pungent.

Fairly weird Fairwood tea set

All the stuff tasted ok, but it was a weird combination, savoury and sweet.

The low sugar green tea was sweeter than claimed.

The toast was fried more like toasted.

Meat mountain that resembles the dish at Tai Hang @ Fairwood

The steamed meat patty here resembles the famous meat patty at Tai Hang.

Although I havent tried the one at Tai Hang, I do not have any expectations for it.
I just tried it for fun because the appearance looks like the meat patty at Tai Hang.

The Chinese dishes here are in response to the Farmhouse dishes at Maxim's.

Same as Maxim's, the set comes with soup, drink and rice.

The meat patty was a mass lump shaped like a mini hill with a salted egg yolk placed on top.

For those who do not know or havent seen the meat patty at Tai Hang will be wowed by it!

The meat patty was on a bed of sliced courgettes, I really liked how it was steamed, because the patty didnt stick to the plate, and the meat juice from the patty was at the bottom of the dish and soaked by the courgettes.
The texture of the meat patty was quite firm, not as soft as the good quality ones.

Indonesian fried rice and red bean tofu @ Fairwood

Got the Indonesian fried rice with chicken because it looked delicious on the product shot.

The real dish turned out as good as the product shot, however it was tasteless and the chicken was dry.

The tofu which I thought was some special tofu, was actually tofu from those plastic boxes.
You can see the imprint of the box on the totu.

The red beans and condensed milk made it too sweet.
