Crepe for desserts

Time flies since French May and now it is the middle of June already.

It was only a few weeks ago that I had their yummy platter and duck crepe and now I am craving for crepes again so it's probably the aftermath of French May!

Went here for dessert and ordered two simple sweet crepes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Crepe with maple cream:

The crepe was thin and light topped with a big dollop of cream.
It was nice because it wasn’t too sweet and the cream and crepe went together nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Crepe with salted butter caramel:

There was quite a bit of caramel drizzled on top but luckily it was not too sweet and it had a bitter taste.
It tasted even better when I added some cream to it from the other crepe.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Hope to try the croissants next time.

Bon steak et bon frites

I love steak frites and this is the only one in Hong Kong that serves the proper fries like the ones in France.

They do not take reservations so you have to get there early.

Steak frites is only HK$288 per head for a two course dinner.

There are so many desserts to choose from!

In the day it costs HK$288 per head for a three-course lunch including a green salad with walnuts, steak-frites and a dessert of the day.
There is a lighter single portion for spring-summer from Monday-Friday, priced at HK$168. Coffee or tea is also included – with ‘dessert of the day’ at an extra HK$30.

The decor here is matched to the style in Paris.

Here was what I had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bread:

Started off with crispy warm bread with butter that melted when you applied it.
I saved some bread for dipping the famous green sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
fresh green salad topped with delicious walnuts from Perigord:

A refreshing crisp salad which was smothered in Dijon mustard dressing and topped with walnuts from Perigord.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steak frites:
They will ask you how you want your steak and whether you want the sauce separate or on the beef.
I decided to have my beef rare and sauce separate.
When the steak arrives, they will serve the first half on your plate and the rest is kept warm and served when you're ready.

I tried the beef rare and medium rare, the rare gives a sweeter flavour but the medium rare is juicier with a strong beef aroma.

After tasting the beef on its own I dipped it generously in the famous green sauce which was divine.
The sauce is vegetarian so you can indulge on it without feeling guilty~

The traditional way of eating it is to add mustard to the green sauce to give it extra flare which brings out the beef flavour even more.
I am now going to rant about the fries because I have finally found proper FRENCH FRIES!!!
What I mean by this is freshly cut fries that are fried.
They had a natrual sweet taste with a slightly sticky texture and they were soft which is how they are meant to be.
Again, they were really delicious with mustard and dipping it in the sauce!~
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
le Vacherin du Relais:

Finished with this pretty tower made of meringues, raspberry sorbet, vanilla icecream and cream!
The crispy sweet meringue and raspberry sorbet was just heaven.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
la Crème Brûlée:

This was another great dessert that was velvety and silky.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I will be back soon for steak frites and I recommend the steak medium rare.

DALLOYAU in the 21st Century

To be honest I didn't know this French brand dates back to the 17th Century with many branches in Japan.
They sell macarons and cakes so decided to try a macaron and cake.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Macarons:

The pistachio had a crisp shell and a soft centre with pistachio and almond flavouring.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
rocher $58:

This was a new cake and it had a lovely caramel tone to it with fiery ginger notes.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Next time I am going to try their chocolates!

Quality steak at L’Entrecôte De Paris Restaurant

The first time I had steak frites was in France but I couldn't remember the restaurant because I was young back then..
In Hong Kong, it is hard to find good steaks so the other place I have tried was La Vache.
The difference is that the steak at L’Entrecôte De Paris Restaurant comes with a famous secret recipe sauce.
It costs HKD268 and you get a green salad with walnuts followed by steak and unlimited fries which are delicious with the green sauce.

The drinks and cocktail menu were good with a nice choice for rums, whiskeys and vodkas.

The restaurant décor is simple and elegant with a 1920s glamorous feel. Tiffany lamps surrounding the ceiling help accentuate the atmosphere.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Treacle:

Had the rum which was pretty easy drinking with cubes of ice swirling in the glass and I really liked it because the rum was not too strong.
As well as this one I would have chosen Mary Pickford because it has grenadine a classic French drink ingredient.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
My Sky:

The drink I had was a refreshing concoction of lime, barley water and apple.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Starter:

To start off with, they give you a salami plate with refreshing pickled gherkins which were perfect with the drinks we ordered.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salad:

This was a simple salad that was delicious because it was drizzled with lemon juice and olive oil and the leaves were crispy and fresh.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steak with fries:

The steak was soft and juicy oozing with red juice which was simply delicious and the green sauce was really addictive because it had a garlicky creamy taste with a sour note that made it moreish.
After pouring the sauce on the fries, you won't be able to stop eating the fries however you have to save your appetite for dessert, but saying that I could not resist and had a bit too much.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dessert:
This was my first Paris Brest and one that I will use as standard.
Paris Brest is a French dessert, made of choux pastry filled with a praline flavoured cream created in 1910 to commemorate the Paris–Brest–Paris bicycle race.
It has a circular shape to represent the bike wheel.
This dessert became popular to riders before the race because it is high in calories.
I remember a few years ago that they were really popular but not many places had them at the time.

As you can see the filling was beautifully piped and it was thick enough to hold.
Although the praline filling was thick it was delightfully silky and not too sweet sandwiched in between the delicate choux pastry that was light and springy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cheese platter:

On the plate was roquefort, roblechon, comté, mimolette and tome de savoie.
My favourite was the orange coloured mimolette which was flavourful because it was sharp, full bodied and had a nice semi hard texture.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Enough said, I am already addicted to their famous sauce!

Beans and carrots at La Rotisserie

Every time I walk past this place, I am always captivated by that delicious smell of roast chicken.

This time I could not resist their roast potatoes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast potatoes with beans and carrots:

As usual, the roast potatoes are perfectly roasted with a soft fluffy centre and a tasty potato skin.
The beans were slightly chewy and dry but the baby carrots were sweet with a hint of butter.

A great cozy place on the corner for fine dining

I was lost on what to eat in Tsim Sha Tsui when I remembered that No.8 Minden Avenue had quite a few Western restaurants which is only half minute's walk from the MTR Station & Nathan Road.

Cozy corner stuck out when I crossed the road because it was on the corner with a lovely pastel blue and white wooden front.

At the corner of the window, there were cookies for sale which are made by them.

Cozy Corner had a nice French brasserie touch to it which made me decide to dine there.
I was greeted with my a nice selection of teas by Fortnum & Mason when I was waiting to be seated.

Inside, the lighting was dimmed and they had elegant crystal lights so it was quite romantic and classy.

I loved the white chairs, European wallpaper and chair railings.

After settling down I was given a menu which had so many choices making it hard to decide but the staff were professional and helpful to assist me on what to order.

We were given a bread basket after we ordered.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bread basket:
The bread was warmed and it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
It was a cold day and the butter that was provided was spreadable which was really good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fortnum & Mason Earl grey Tea:
Then came the tea because I love starting the meal with tea.
The Earl Grey was fragrant and natural with a hint of citrus aftertaste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Iced cappuccino:
I didn't try the iced cappuccino, but the foam cap was really silky and light with a hint of sweetness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crab meat and avocado salad $138:
This was crab meat mixed with Mesclan greens with crunchy cubes of cucumber in it which gave it more dimension while the sweet Balsamic dressing made it appetizing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Oven baked onion soup served with cheese toast $56

The soup was really warming on a cold day with a piece of crispy baguette topped with cheese and the onion soup was sweet packed with onions.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cream of mushroom soup $82
The mushroom soup was really creamy with fresh slices of mushrooms in it garnished with a fresh flower on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled Okinawa Kagoshima A5 cattle thick cut rib eye steak (8oz) $560 (seasonal price) served with truffle demi glace and asparagus.
The beef was juicy and soft with an even fat marbling paired with my favourite French beans and asparagus.
The beef tasted great with or without the truffle demi glace gravy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rack of lamb served with rosemary and asparagus and honey mustard sauce $335
This was my favourite because it quite a big lamb rack with lots of juicy and supple meat attached that was rubbed with lots of rosemary herbs on the surface.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lemon cheesecake $58
To finish off, had the lemon cheesecake which had a prominent lemon flavour that was not too strong and you could taste the cheese in it as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tiramisu with alcohol $68

As well as the cheesecake, the Tiramisu was divine because the sponge in the middle was soaked with alcohol and every spoon of it was moreish.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
After an amazing night, it was time to go and we were told that we could get a discount through Facebook which my friend did.
To summarize, this is a great place for special occasions and high tea which I shall try next time because the menu says that they have clotted cream with scones!!
