goo goo gaa gaa ! My first baby food review

I have always wanted to try this one and only restaurant in Hong Kong that serves food for babies.

However this restaurant is in Shatin where the mtr does not go but since I had a tasting in Shatin I decided to kill two birds with one stone.
Initially I was iffy about going to a tasting at Pxxxx Dexxxxx because Shatin does my head in and it is always packed with people but then it was a new year thing so i went.

Anyway, this is my first official review on OpenRice for baby food because this is the only restaurant that is listed which serves it.
I have tried other baby food brands and the Japanese brands taste much better than Western brands.

To be honest, I love baby foods because I can vaguely remember how it tastes back then and my tastebuds were not fully developed then.

There are more exciting flavours now than before, so why not try it!
Perhaps one day, you can get Premium baby food flavoured with truffle!

I was expecting the Baby Restaurant to be closed because on openrice it is listed as opening from 11am-4pm.

Since I was curious I went there and I was really lucky it was still open.

Near the entrance there is a list of baby meals.

It costs around $29-$35 per meal which is about the same as adult meals.

The meals are classified in a few categories:
5-6 months
7-8 months
9-11months
12 months
12+ months

I decided that $35 was a bit expensive for a baby meal so I chose the $29 one.
After you order, you are given a ticket to pay at the counter outside which takes FOREVER!~!

I couldn't understand what the hell was taking them so long!

After I paid I passed the receipt back to the woman, and it took a while to get served because she was looking for the baby and I tried bashfully to explain to her that I was ordering it for fun with weird mothers looking at me!!

At first I did not know what the square cavities on the table were for.

But then I realized they were for the babies.

They basically have pouches of baby food and heat them up when people order them.

As well as baby food, there is a difference in baby languages.

Western Baby Language: goo goo ga ga
Chinese baby Language: Don't know!

Western dog bark: woof woof
Chinese dog bark: woa woa

Anyway, tried the Set meal C which has sweetcorn soup, congee with fish and milk pudding:

WESTERN BABY review:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweetcorn soup:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Congee with fish:
goo goo
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pudding:
goo goo ga ga
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
+++++++++++++++++++
ADULT review:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweetcorn soup:
I didn't like it because it lacked sweetcorn taste and the taste was too milky.
The temperature was cold as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Congee with fish:
This was delicious and it had tiny silver fishes in the congee.
You could taste the food and congee without the taste being too bland or salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pudding:
The texture was really smooth and silky and the sweetness was just right.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
After trying it, I wanted to order another one but sadly it was 7pm already and they were closed.
I really regretted not ordering this one as well.
Those rice balls look really cute.

Perhaps baby food could be fed to the elderly or people who have swallowing difficulties because congee is tasteless to them.
The baby food pouches come in so many other tasty options such as udon and other heavy meals made into baby form.

Baby Restaurant (Sha Tin)

It's smokin hot at the super giant!!

Located at the Mira Moon Hotel is this Super Giant tapas bar with a secret garden open-air terrace, or stay in-doors with chic interior décor and mellow ambience.

I love that logo!!

Heard about these interesting edible cigars at the super giant so decided to dine there.

The menu:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bread:
There was bread which seemed to have herbs and orange peel in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Duck Cigar Havana Style:

As expected, I was wowed by the presentation, they were just like real cigars in a box.
There was a side of poppy seeds and chili flakes to enhance the taste but I felt that sauce was needed so asked for ketchup and mustard which complemented it nicely.
It was lacking smoke because the marketing team said there was meant to be some smoke coming out of it when the box was opened.

Great seafood and steaks at The Sky Bar

The Sky bar belongs to the Mr Steak group so the quality of seafood and beef is assured because I love the buffets at Mr Steak.

The decor here was really nice, I loved the lighting at the entrance with the flowers on the table which looked gothic in the evening but the inside is not gothic and looks like a really nice place for dining and having drinks!

We dined in the VIP room which had board games, digital darts and cushion sofas.

Here was what we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Perfect 10:
This was a non alcoholic mixture of Lychee and apple.

It was simple and nice because lychee is very fragrant but can be quite sweet but it was balanced by the sourness of the apple juice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The Sky Bar Cold Seafood Platter $228:
Canadian Champagne Crab Leg, Canadian Jade Sea Whelk, U.S.A. Mussels, Local Fresh Shrimps, U.S.A. Cherry Stone Clam.

All the seafood was fresh just like the ones at Mr Steak buffet, but don't miss out on the Cherry Stone clam because it was sweet and fresh and you don't often see it in restaurants.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tapas $128:
Seared Duck Foie Gras with Apple Marmalade on baguette, Smoked Salmon & Truffle Roulade on baguette, Caesar Shrimp on baguette, Crab Meat Louis on baguette, Crumbed Oyster with Tartar Sauce on baguette, Lamb Kofta with Mint Yogurt on baguette

A delight of tapas on baguette slices perfect for sharing.
I tried the lamb which was paired nicely by the mint yoghurt just like the ones you get in Kebab places.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Armagnac Shellfish Bisque with Fresh Seafood $168 for two:

Although the soup says for two, I felt the portion was good for FOUR!!!
It was loaded with so much seafood in it just like bouillabaisse soups.
In the soup there were cherrystone clams, huges prawns, fresh mussels and more.
The taste of the soup really packed a punch because the seafood taste was really rich and the Armagnac was really strong with a bitterness kick.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Atlantic Lobster Tail Linguine with Crabmeat in Pesto Cream $188:

Fresh lobster tail that was springy and gently flavoured with pesto, however the pasta was a little heavy for because we had steak coming up.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seared Alaskan Cod Fillet, sea Scallop & King Prawn with Saffron Cream Sauce $188

Another seafood feast for seafood lovers.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Aged Grain Fed 400 days Aberdeen Prime Sirloin Steak (10oz.) with Herbs Butter $ 298

This was my favourite steak because it was soft and tender paired with deliciously soft roasted potatoes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
「Creekstone Farm」Premium Rib Eye Steak (10oz.) with Herbs Butter $248

The rib eye was meatier and juicier compared to the above.
Again paired with delicious vegetables.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Baked Puff Pastry Apple Dumpling with Vanilla Ice-cream $88

There was a whole apple inside the puff pastry.

It was delicious paired with the vanilla icecream and on the sides of the plate there was lovely wine jelly which had gold glitter in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fresh Mango Pancake $68

I love the presentation of this, huge pancakes with fresh mango in between drizzled with creamy condensed milk.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stylish tea pot:

To end dinner I had tea which was really stylish because the teapot sits on top of the cup.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I will be back soon and try their lunch buffet because Mr Steak is getting crowded

Hooked on Fish and Pies

Saw this newly listed shop called HOOKED so googled it and found out it was a Chippy so decided to check it out.

I didn't really have any expectations because it was opened by Kiwi's and I am British.

Previously tried Seasalt and Fish & Chick which were opened by Aussies.

Anyway I loved the location, it was on Caine Road near the escalators.
Brightly lit blue logo with a blue hook and sea blue decor.

This chippy joint was manned by three hunks.

The menu was simple.

It was really nice to see that they sell Pukka pies from the UK.

- Chicken and mushroom
- Steak and Kidney
- Cornish pasty

There was beer too.

They had pickled onions and gherkins.

It was good to see lots of battered fish ready because there were lots of customers coming and going.

They had a choice of blue cod, blue nose and hok, as well as battered mussels, oysters and scallops.
In the end, I settled for Blue nose, half a scoop of chips, and 2 potato fritters which cost $95!!
I wanted to try the curry sauce as well but it was $10 for a small tub and it was quite watery because someone before me ordered it.
I didn't have room for dessert or I would have tried the pineapple and bananas battered in cinnamon.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
When it came, it was nicely wrapped in paper.

Blue nose fish:

The fish was really good, the batter was light, crisp and thinly coated yet it held the fish together.

The texture of the fish was succulent, soft and moist.
I've never tried blue nose before but it tasted like Haddock.
Potato fritters:

The potato fritters were slices of potato in batter and quite scrumptious with salt and vinegar.
Chips:
The chips were ok but not the fresh hand cut ones that you get in chippies but the taste was good because you could really taste the salt and vinegar and it was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Next time I will be back for their pies and try different salts on the chips because they have Cajun, Lemon and pepper or Garlic.

Yue's XO sauce

I was given this XO sauce ages ago at the "OR be my guest event" but forgot about it.
Found it when I was tidying my desk, so decided to get some Stir fried soy sauce noodles to go with it.

The XO sauce came in a pretty Chinese silk bag.

The amount in the jar was just right and I used it all in one go.

Strangely the sauce tasted really nice and there were lots of dried scallops and prawn roe in it which was different to when I tried it at tasting.
The taste was great, it was not too spicy and prawn roe smell was strong.
