Perfect fried chicken at Katies Kitchen Peckham

I discovered this chicken shop because of the fortress of chicken boxes at the window
The fried chicken by the window looked good in the sense every piece of chicken was covered uniformly in golden coating so I decided to try it.
I tried my luck with one piece of chicken to see how their chicken was.
When I opened the box, I wasn't visually impressed because the bone was exposed.
Taking a bite the chicken was soft and seasoned, coming off the bone nicely which made up for the exposed bone.
On the way out I saw spicy wings just being brought out so I went back asap to try one as well.
The wings were bigger in general and uniformly coated.
Again, just my luck I got one that was a bit deformed but luckily the taste and quality was far too good to fault it.
Will definitely be back if I am in the area and hopefully I will get a tasty good piece of chicken that looks good.

Cake & Custard factory has landed in Peckham! (New Opening)

Cake & Custard Factory has opened another branch in Peckham and another coming soon to Tottenham.
Finally made another visit to Cake & Custard after lockdown.
Going to the main branch in Central is quicker and more convenient but I decided to visit the new branch and discover eateries nearby.
There is also a cake shop nearby but clearly the style is different so not much competition here.
Anyway it was good see the same cakes and other new choices like milkcakes, cake shakes and cronuts.

As you can imagine it was a difficult choice but some were sold out hence I narrowed it down to plain chocolate, carrot cake and the jammy one.
On the way home, it was good to see nearby eateries stock their cakes so I was tempted to buy the one that was sold out at the other eatery.

I tucked into the cakes at home with tea as soon as I got home, the cakes were consistently good, they were fluffy and soft as well as moist.
The chocolate one was sinfully delicious and light without being overwhelming and the jammy one was just like the good old school days.
To finish off the moist carrot cake had a good touch of cinnamon and an indulgent cream cheese frosting.
Will be back again for more cakes and eating in the area again.

Jamaican treats and Cake & Custard treats at After Hours - New Cross Gate

Spotted some Cake and Custard TREATS at After hours so if Cake and Custard is off your radar you can get them from here.
I was captivated by these amazing battered prawns, rice and peas, mac and cheese as well as plaintains.
Anyway as I was leaving the area, I made a special trip again to New Cross Gate just to try After Hours.
It seemed pricey for a takeaway but this is the only place that serves battered prawns with Jamaican food!
Judging by what I saw and the pictures I took, the prawns looked big and succulent in a crisp sweet batter but the problem with fried food, you have to ideally eat it asap before it goes soft.
Unfortunately, there was no where nearby to eat so I had to travel a 45 minute journey home so it was bound to get cold so I had to consider to eat it warm or think of a good way to reheat the prawns.
As planned, I ordered the battered prawns, rice and peas, mac and cheese.
To my surprise, they were generous with the prawns and gave me 10 along with the sides.
The portion was so big that I just ate the rice and peas with prawns that night and had the mac and cheese for lunch the next day.
The battered prawns did not disappoint apart from the batter being a bit soft, they were glazed in this lovely sweet and sour sauce with a chilli kick similar to Kung Po Prawns but I doubt any Chinese Takeaway would give you 10 prawns!!!
The mac and cheese alone was cheesy and comforting just like school style mac and cheese.
Overall, I am so glad I tried this and hopefully I will be back again sometime to try the chicken fried rice and other mains!
