Fish glorious fish!!

I love the fish sets at this place!!
It is only $40 including rice, soup and dessert!!

Dessert:
I don't like Chinese desserts anyway! but it came with it.

Soup:
There was no MSG, so the soup was quite good.

Tried the fish twice, they were fresh and steamed just right because the fish was soft and supple.
Black beans were my favourite.

Auntie Sweet was too sweet this time

Came back for the tofu with blended strawberry slush, however the strawberry slush was too sweet this time.
The tofu beneath it was quite nice but it lacked soy bean taste.

My food visions fulfilled at the GLASSHOUSE

Thanks to the Gaia group for this $500 gift certificate to dine at the Glasshouse.

The Glasshouse offers all day dining with bar food created from their existing restaurants such as Greyhound, Wang Jia Sha, Zelo, Isola and more.
It offers mouth watering Asian Cuisine with a Western twist, perfect for expats with a relaxing roof top garden surrounded by the glitzy harbour views.

Here was what we tried.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Potato croquettes with seaweed and scallop with sweet & sour mango sauce $58

Each croquette had a cute disposable plastic fork which made them manageable to eat.
They were crispy filled with delicious potatoey filling and scallop pieces but I could not taste the seaweed.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crab cakes with edamame beans and organic corn with yuzu mayo $78

The crab cakes were enhanced by the edamame beans which gave it a sweet twist.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pad Thai black ink noodles with barbeque pork, tofu, egg and soy bean sprouts $118

This was definitely the star of the evening because I don't like Cambodian noodles and it has been replaced with squid ink noodles which were al dente.
There was a cute ceramic pot with an egg to mix in the noodles.

After it was added, the noodles were much silkier.
Then lime juice was added making the noodles even more refreshing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wagyu beef burger with black truffle mayonnaise and homemade pickles

I am not fond of beef but I loved the homemade pickles which balanced the beefiness of the beef.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crepe filled with Otap cookies, ube ice cream and pomelo $78

It was great that they serve Filipino Otap cookies inside the crepe giving it a lovely crunchy centre paired with cooling ube ice cream.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Midnight gloria (grapefruit juice, passionfruit puree, fresh lime juice, butterfly tea topping, lime zest) 58

They had so many choices for tea which took me a long time to decide!
Anyway, the one I had was nice and refreshing and not too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Thanks to the voucher, we only had to fork out another $31.
(but due to some teething problems I think we paid the bill for the table next to us because they had oysters and the items on the bill don't quite match what we had.
I only realized the bill was not ours when I was writing up this review).

I can't wait to come here again because the food and drinks are amazing and I haven't tried everything yet!

Fish shaomai with wood ear fungus at Original taste

Again, I was waiting in the area for other foodies to go to a tasting when I spotted the fish shao mai with wood ear fungus at Original Taste Workshop.

It said $10 for members but I was also able to get them for $10.

It was good that they had a variety of sauces and not just the standard soy sauce, chili oil that you find at local convenience stores.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish Shaomai with wood ear fungus:

The shaomais were tasteless but since there were lots of sauces, it helped to enhance the taste and the wood ear fungus gave it a nice mouthfeel and crunch.
On the poster, there was also shittake mushrooms in it but I could not taste them.

La plage at La Creperie

Went to LA Creperie again and had the lemon crepe.

It was different to the version I had in 2010 because this time it had icecream and no meringue.

Review in 2010:
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=2088354

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
La plage:
lemon cream, mint and icecream
The creamy lemon sauce tasted like lemon curd with a refreshing minty taste.

The scoop of icecream was optional in my opinion because I would have preferred it without and the crepe tasted nice without it.

Rude waitress at Piccolo Pizzeria & Bar

Obviously ate more than just a salad at Piccolo Pizzeria & Bar but the waitress here was so rude and served you when she wanted to.
Originally planned to go to the Tai Hang branch but thought that this branch was going to be better but it wasn't.

The salad was nice and refreshing, lots of spinach leaves and cubes of juicy beetroots.
The fennel was nice and sweet.

Just the usual breakfast fare

Perhaps I am not an Auzzie, so the food at The Cupping Room did not really connect with me.

The seating was cramped and the environment was noisy.

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pasta arrabiata with aubergines:

The arrabiata sauce was rather spicy and the spiral pasta was too al dente for my liking.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Breakfast:

The breakfast was overpriced and it was the same usual items eg mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes, scrambled egg, sausage and hard bread which did not taste better than other places.
Woops, no baked beans!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

A bit dry this time

Went to Joy Hing Roasted Meat again for roast pork.
As usual, the food comes within a few seconds of ordering.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast pork with roasted chicken livers:

The chicken livers were dry and hard.
The roast pork was too lean for my liking.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken feet in abalone sauce:

Compared to previous visit, the sauce was darker and saltier.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Huge price inflation at Sun King Yuen! $75 for noodles

I don't often come here because this restaurant is very is rude.
Since my last visit, the prices have gone up.
The curry take out is now $38.

The noodles cost $75 to dine in which is crazy, because for $75 you can have the same dish at a more expensive Chinese restaurant or a bowl of Japanese ramen!

As the prices have gone up, I would have expected the cutlery to be better, but they still give you the crappy snack forks and flimsy plastic spoons which SNAP halfway through!!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Curry chicken:

Luckily, I got quite a fair portion of chicken and the curry sauce was not too spicy.
However there was the usual strong thirsty feeling when you finish the curry.

onion bagel with eggless mayonnaise

Pacific Coffee Company (Central)

As I had a jar of delicious mayonnaise, I decided to get a crappy bagel from Pacific Coffee so that I could have mayonnaise with it.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Onion bagel:

It was heated up and the texture was dry and chewy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Just mayo with the bagel:
It tasted so much nicer with the mayonnaise because the bagel was not so dry anymore and the lemony taste of the mayonnaise went nicely with the pieces of sweet onions in the bagel.

Just Mayo is cholesterol-free, egg free, dairy free, soy free, lactose free, gluten free, vegan, kosher and non-GMO mayonnaise which comes in two flavours Just Mayo and Chipotle Mayo.
The mayonnaise looked thick but it was effortlessly spreadable and the knife glides in it so well.
I tried it on its own and it was so similar to Hellmans but it had a stronger lemony kick.
Anyway, I slapped it generously on my bagel knowing that it was cholesterol free.
Plain bagel and mayonnaise was just delicious!!
I am not a vegetarian, but since the Vegetarian version tastes as good as real mayonnaise and good for your health, I would definitely buy Just Mayo!!
Just Mayo is made with yellow peas and will be available in HONG KONG soon, so watch out!
