Loyal and royal fine Chinese food at Loyal Dining

I have been here many times before for the all you can eat dim sum and the roast pigeon.

This time came with a bigger group so had more food.

Here was what we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Loyal Chicken Wings Simmered in Homemade Sweet Soya Sauce (6pcs)

The chicken wings were soft and came off the bone easily.
It was savoury and sweet with a slight stickiness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Double-boiled Chicken Soup with Whelk & Bamboo Fungus

This was a nice clear soup with two big chunks of bamboo piths in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stuffed Chicken Wings with Vegetarian Fin

These wings were filled with scrumptious vegetarian fins and julienne vegetables.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried prawn toasts

Each toast had a thick layer of prawn patty with crispy toast beneath it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Loyal seafood soup with puff pastry

The soup had a flawless puff pastry top.

Beneath it was rich seafood soup loaded with seafood.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Loyal Fried Flat Noodles with Sliced Beef in Homemade Sweet Soya Sauce

As well as beef, there were chunks of mushroom stalks which made it tastier and the sauce was not too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sauteéd Vegetables with Minced Crab Meat

The broccoli had a nice crunch which paired nicely with the crab meat in gravy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lemon chicken

This was my favourite, tender pieces of crispy chicken in refreshing lemon sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish fillets in sweet corn sauce

The crispy fish fillets and creamy sweet corn sauce was great with rice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Loyal Pigeon Simmered in Homemade Sweet Soya Sauce (1pc)

The simmered pigeon was really tasty, a good alternative for people who do not like the roasted ones.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crispy Pigeon

Compared to the simmered ones, these had a lovely crispy skin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Loyal Soufflé

The souffle was really satisfying and it did not collapse and vanish when you ate it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Modern Gei Dan Jai (Egg Waffle with Ice-cream)

I was too full for the waffles, but I liked the modern presentation with icecream on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ice cream soda

It was great they had this on the menu because the icecream soda is not as sweet as the ones mixed with cola or lemonade.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hot cola with lemon and ginger

The hot cola was soothing for a cold but the ginger was not strong enough.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
To finish off we had the cute festive dim sum platter.

A quick drink at Fiat Caffé

After having some grilled food, I was pretty thirsty so came here for drinks.

I missed the fig drink so I ordered that and had the caramel tea because it was different.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Caramel tea by Dammann freres:

It did not taste sweet but had a really sweet caramel smell that is just like the Highland toffee tea at Shortbread Teas .

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Honey figs margarita:

It was ruby red garnished with a sprig of mint on top.
The drink was really refreshing and not syrupy followed by the lovely fizzyness of the carbonated water and bits of sweet blended fig.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
My thirst was satisfied!!

Whitehead is The best place for BBQ

I don't often go to BBQs because the thought of travelling to Sai Kung is hell and 90% of the time in Hong Kong is hot and humid so why would you want to torture yourself having a BBQ.
Recently I joined some friends at Whitehead BBQ which changed my perception of BBQs and the fact that it was winter made it more enjoyable.
Whitehead BBQ is located in the countryside of Hong Kong with a nice seaview, we got the 10 person package for $2988 which includes a room with a patio for the BBQ furnished with a fridge, air con, TV, table, chairs and some games.

When you arrive, there is a name list at the reception to help people locate their BBQs and the staff will lead you there as well.

After you are settled they will check with you the list of food that is in the fridge and help you to start the BBQ going when you are ready.
Our package included forks, seasonings, plates, tissues and drinks.

Food wise, there was 2 bags of prawns, 2 bags of NZ mussels, 3 bags of scallops with garlic butter, Whole fish, 2 bags of ribs, chicken steaks, pork chops, chicken wings, chicken franks, chicken cartilage, pork burger patties, Taiwanese sausages, cheesy sausages, seafood balls, sweet potatoes and sweetcorn.

As well as all that, we had the BBQ suckling pig which was everyones favourite!! They even help you to serve it when it is ready.

Basically I had a great time and the food was good especially the suckling pig, chicken wings, burger patties and sweet potatoes.

I definitely had an enjoyable day and it has changed my perception of hot and sticky BBQs because it was nice that the place was fully equipped.

Kee Wah's CNY Candy assortment

It is getting near Chinese new year and everyone is stocking up on candies for the candy box which is offered to guests during the festive days.
I like Kee Wah's candy assortment.

There are four different flavours in the box:
-Handmade nougats
-handmade chewy peanut candy with dessicated coconut
-handmade crunchy pumpkin seed candy
-handmade black date candy with walnut

All of them are going to be great treats which are addictive.
My favourites are the nougats and the chewy peanut candy because they are chewy and simply moreish!

6th branch of Cali-Mex!!

I was on my way to Flaming Frango's when I was given a flyer for a free frozen Margarita.

This is the sixth branch of Cali-Mex with the seventh one of Luard Road!

There was already a crowd there but I managed to get one.

I chose the strawberry which was sweet with a hint of Tequila.

The plastic cocktail cup was really nice and had an illuminated handle so I kept it~~

Ducktastic dishes at Pinot Duck

I am not a fan of Cantonese food in HK because it doesn't fare as good as the ones in the UK unless you go to expensive places.
Anyway, I discovered this new joint in Stanley specializing in duck that are imported from the US and France.
The dishes have a slight Asian twist to it and the restaurant does not look Chinese which confuse people at first sight.

At the back there is an open kitchen with a place to roast their ducks.

The menu was creative with a choice of Asian style and Western style duck dishes.
I chose the following dishes because I prefer Western style, although there are a few that are Asian as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wood and snow fungas salad:

This was a great salad to begin with because the vinaigrette dressing was really appetizing and it had lots of snow fungas and coral seaweed which is rich in collagen.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
crispy duck pieces:
tossed in cumin and sichuan pepper seasoning

Next were the crispy duck legs which were meaty and divine because it was extremely crispy with tasty soft duck meat in the middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Duck liver pate:

The duck liver pate was smooth and velvety infused with a strong Chinese wine called Hua Diao.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Duck consomme:

Then I had the warming duck consomme which was loaded with wintermelon pearls and a quail egg.
It was simply light and satisfying.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
hot and sour soup:

Although it was too spicy for me, I liked the smokey chipotle and balsamic vinegar in the soup.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
duck risotto:

The risotto was filling with delicious pieces of crispy duck skin. Each grain of rice was tasty with a strong green pepper taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
caramel lotus roots:

To finish off, had the caramel lotus roots with chocolate mousse and pickled ginger.
It was a nice combination of Oriental ingredients and Western ingredients.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Definitely coming back again!!
