Pomela skin treats at Fresco

Fresco Dim Sum (Western District)
I was surprised this restaurant did dim sums because Fresco does not sound Chinese at all.

Their menu was really good because they had English, but there was only one item I was interested in so I got a takeaway.
I got the pomelo skin because not places serve it and for good ones it takes days to prepare.

Pomela skin with dried prawn roe:

For $14 you can't really complain, but there could have been more prawn roe (ie the prawn roes are not really visible in this photo).
The texture was not velvety or mushy but more like soft white carrot.
Overall, it's not a bad dish and I would prefer it less salty and oily.

B for Brilliant

B Takeaway (Western District)
A hip and chick burger joint on the corner of Catchick Street offering burgers, fish and chips and more.

I wanted to try the burgers but it was too hot that day, so I just went for their Belgian fries.
They were chunky flat cut chips and it came with some yellow sauce.

The chips had a nice starchy centre with a crispy surface, and the sauce was surprisingly nice because it was mildly sweet.

Honeymoon dessert revamped

MOONnHONEY (Mong Kok)
When I walked past this shop I assumed it was a skincare shop but when I came closer it turned out to one of Honeymoon's shop in a different style.

They had nice displays of the drinks and desserts they sell.

They also had potato salad too in the fridge.

That day, they were making glutinous mochis filled with mango so I tried one.

The mango mochi was deliciously soft filled with a juicy piece of mango inside and the dessicated coconut on the outside enhanced it even more.

Dining Offers: Tasting Event

Summer @ Le Salon Restaurant et Croissanterie

Le Salon Restaurant et Croissanterie (Causeway Bay)
Found out there were some new summer croissants at Le Salon Restaurant et Croissanterie so came here especially to try them.
The new flavours were Frozen raspberry yogurt and Dark Cherry.

Apart from croissants, they now have light meals which are quite cheap so the portions are probably quite small.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Frozen raspberry yogurt:
The croissant is sliced in the middle and there are two slices of frozen raspberry yoghurt in the middle which looks like Wall raspberry ripple icecream.

It was nice having a warm croissant complimented by icy yoghurt, but I felt that the yogurt was not creamy enough and it was more like sorbet.
The taste was not bad because the raspberry yoghurt was nice and sour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dark Cherry:

As well as cherries on the top of the croissant, it was filled with delicious black cherry jam.

Personally I prefer tart cherries.

Egg rice rolls

新華粥品 (Wan Chai)
To this date, I still feel these dough stick rice rolls are the best and this is probably my 4th-5th visit because the rice rolls are cheap and quick.

I ended up having two plates because I loved the freshness of the dough sticks in the middle, they were oil free, crispy with a soft centre.

First plate:

Second plate:

Rice rolls with egg:

At first it tasted really nice but it got a bit heavy after eating a few pieces.
It tasted better with soy sauce.

Rice noodles with crispy pork

Thai Kwok Snack (Sai Kung)
Came here for some quick noodles.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crispy pork and thai sausage vermicelli :

I chose crispy pork and thai sausage.

The rice vermicelli that they use are the thin ones which absorbs the lovely broth and the pork on top are crispy, after the pork has absorbed the soup, it becomes chewy on the outside with a crisp centre.
The thai sausage slices were really nice but it leaves you feeling thirsty.
There were a bit too much beanshoots and Chinese parsley in the broth and the portion is actually quite small.

Evilicious tapas at Casa's in Sai Kung

Casa
Shop 1, G/F., Sui Yat Building, 1 Sai Kung Hoi Pong Square
西貢海傍廣場1號兆日大廈地下1號舖

A newly opened Tapas bar in Sai Kung.

It's so new that its news hasn't really reached the city of Hong Kong and yet there are lots of people dining there on a weekday evening!
The Casa logo reminded me of Fred Cheng's (鄭俊弘) HOME band logo.

It is located behind the main minibus stop in the hustle and bustle behind the seafood restaurants.

I just had to dine there because it reminded me of 22 Ships in Wan Chai, and their staff were British too (great for expats).
The staff were really friendly and attentative.

Again it has an open kitchen just like 22 ships with lovely bench tables and stools.

I was attracted to the Bocadillos which were bite sized tapas on bread and there are six pieces per portion which is good for gatherings.
As well as Bocadillos, they serve hot/cold tapas, sandwiches, platters, desserts and drinks.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bocadillos - Serrano Ham Quails Eggs:

These were too cute, fried quail eggs on top of serrano ham with freshly cracked black pepper on delicious crispy soft bread.
The quail eggs paired nicely with the ham and the size of the quail eggs were just right for the bread.
The yolk was slightly runny, which was really good with the bread and the ham was not too salty.
It must have been a nifty and fiddly job cracking these dinky eggs and frying them just right! BRAVO!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mussels:

These were fresh mussels and I loved the white wine sauce it was in.
The texture of these mussels were really soft and a bit like jelly, the byssus threads came off easily which was really good.
It is quite interesting that people use these byssus threads to make byssus cloth and seasilk.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bocadillos -Anchovies and Tomatoes:

I loved this one because it had a piece of fresh tomato, a piece of fresh basil and a piece of anchovy and all the tastes complemented each other especially the fragrant basil leaves.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bocadillos - Blue cheese and caramelized onions:

This had the strongest taste out of the three but the strong taste of the blue cheese was balanced by the sweetness of the caramelized onions and the fancy leaves took away the heavyness of the blue cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cherry, Almond Fudge Ice-cream:

The icecreams served here are made by Happy Cow which are all made with Coconut milk and not milk!
It had an interesting taste because there was a strong hint of coconut and the texture of this icecream is much creamier than icecream made with milk.
It was really smooth as well and there were generous pieces of cherries in it.

Payment using Paypal:
When I was about to pay, I was really surprised they said it would be done using PayPal but luckily I did not have to log in my personal PayPal account.
Basically they took my card and put it in their device, after keying the bill amount, I thought to myself am I going to be signing on that device!!!

My questions were answered when he passed me the stylus to sign on the device.
(It feels weird signing digitally! The screen below is blank because I have not signed it yet!)

The receipts for this restaurant and paypal were emailed to me imediately after the transaction with the address I provided!
I was really surprised with this payment method in pre-historic Sai Kung!
