Since my last visit, this place has been given a REAL British facelift it deserves!!
There's no excuse to miss it now because it's the most outstanding restaurant at the cooked food market!!
Lovely Royal Mail post box.
[Pretending to post a letter]
Fish Collection times aka Opening Times!!
Glamourous red phone box with mirrored glass panes.
A touch of royalty!
Typical UK brick walls and cloudy blue skies.
K's British Restaurant is located in Mui Wo's cooked food market which is by the sea with great seaviews depending on where you are sitting.
Shoals of fish on the sea blue wall.
This paragraph is quoted from Prestige magazine which was ABSOLUTELY spot on:
Lovers of fish and chips in Hong Kong had much to mourn about when the last purveyor of the pukka item in Town, the chippy closed a year ago or so.
Illuminated cloudy blue skies.
Overall the new look is good, but it was slightly dim for dining.
Thankfully, K's British Restaurant is here to the rescue!!!
This new STAR is going to bring tourism to Mui Wo or send expats moving there!
The traffic and accessibility is much better than Sai Kung.
Well at least I am tempted.....
THIS PLACE IS TRULY BRITISH AND THIS IS MY FOURTH VISIT!!
PLEASE CARRY ON READING IF YOUR AN EXPAT BECAUSE YOU WON'T APPRECIATE THESE PERFECT CHIPPIE CHIPS IF UR NOT ENGLISH BECAUSE THE HONGKIE STYLE CHIPS ARE BURNT!
THERE IS ALSO HEINZ KETCHUP AND MALT VINEGAR ON THE TABLES.

Cod and chips:
OMG! The battered cod and chips were just OMG!
The cod was succulent and flakey with a uniform batter and the chips were sensational!
This is how a model chip should be, it was fat, with a shiny surface and when you bite into it, the inside of the chip was silky just like molten starchy lava.
Basically the texture of the starchy lava was like velvety thick cream with a slighty chewy soft chip skin.
Eating it piping hot when it is just served tastes the best, if you leave it for a while, the chips get a little bit firmer.
You could smell the gorgeous spud smell just like baked potatoes when it was just served.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pollock and chips:
Pollock is another fish similar to cod, it is used in fish fingers and fish burgers.
The fried pollock was also to die for, it was different to the cod because the texture of this fish is much softer and silkier and melts in your mouth!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tea:
Since my last visit, you can now choose between breakfast tea and Earl Grey.
The tea was served in a Chinese tea pot and the cups they used were those thick rimmed tea cups that you get in chaa chan tengs.
You will notice a difference if your used to thin rimmed cups.
Somehow they reminded me of the cups at BHS and Littlewood's cafeteria except the shape of the cup was different.
But anyway, it was British tea so it was the perfect quencher to go with fish and chips.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple pie with REAL Bird's eye custard:
I was elated to see custard on the menu.
Custard is so simple to make and I don't know why places don't have REAL custard.
Normally I have custard with pudding or on its own, but here it is served with fresh apple pie which is made by them.
It was quite nice but I prefer sour apples.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Anyway, I am now hooked on their food and I wish they would open another branch in Central.
Ok, there is HOOKED on Caine Road, but they don't serve these chips and if the ferry was cheaper, I would be here more often!

For "C"od and Country
Lovely rooftop cafe in Central
Came here because my friend Ivy insisted on going!
I was a bit iffy because I thought it was a kids cafe but when I got there, it was surprisingly relaxed with homely decor.
There is a childrens' play area at the back.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rotary dial phone:
☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The milk bottles with flowers on the floor reminds me of putting empty milk bottles outside the front door for the milkman to collect in the morning to be exchanged for fresh bottles of milk.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cute paper straws
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
A nice selection of cakes including flapjacks, caramel slices and scones.
SUNMAID raisins!!
A lovely toiletries corner outside the toilet.
For food I ordered the grilled cheese toast, carrot cake and Ivy chose the Vegetarian toast and the flapjack.
According to the menu, it seems that the grilled cheese toast was $45 and the cake was $45, but I got charged $105.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled cheese toast:
Simple and delicious with melted cheese and ham.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crunchy hummus:
Hummus with sliced and diced carrots, capsicum, red onion and celery, topped with a curry vinaigrette, lettuce and tomato.
The toast was crunchy as claimed with crisp carrots and delicious hummus that had a light curry taste.
It was very filling with all those different vegetables in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Carrot cake:
Moist with finely shredded carrots and a strong taste cinnamon and cloves.
The frosting was a bit too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Flapjack:
I never liked them at school but it was comforting to eat them with the same "I don't like it feeling".
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Overall, the food was ok but the tea selection was poor.

Dreaming on a Ferris Wheel
This cake shop which was opened in December last year is finally listed on OpenRice.
It is hidden in the old lanes of Sai Kung.
The shop has a nice dreamy name called FERRIS WHEEL and the logo makes you think of macarons because of the circles around it.
It also reminds me of Ferrero Rocher because of the colour!
There is a cute Ferris Wheel display.
In the middle there is a glass cabinet of cupcakes and cakes.
I ended up getting the Earl grey mousse and the chocolate cupcake.
Both were surprisingly good and I am so glad there is finally a decent cake shop in Sai Kung because the rest are local village style bakeries which I do not like.
I was really impressed with the cake box and bag too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
MR. EARL:
Earl grey mousse
The icing made the mousse cake pretty but I would have liked it without because the mousse was sweet enough.
Although the mousse looked dense and hard, it had a decent whipped texture which was airy and light.
The taste was rewarding too, it was chocolately with a strong earl grey taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate cupcake:
The cupcake surprised me as well because the texture was soft and didn't crumble.
It was not too sweet with a strong chocolate taste and it did not have that nasty buttery lard smell and taste that the local cakes have.

Rockin-K-Roll
This was my first visit to K-Roll because whenever I am in Sheung Wan I end up eating elsewhere.
The staff were nice at this branch and there is a nice sitting area.
Here was what I tried.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crab salad K-roll:
The rolls were uniformly sliced with a clean cut.
Each piece was so moreish that I finished it quickly.
There was a fresh medley of crunchy vegetables, avocado and crab in the middle.
The crab rolls were simple and delicious that it did not need other sauces.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawn korrito:
The idea of this is similar to a burrito but they have used seaweed as a wrap instead.
I loved the freshness of the salad in the middle because you could see that it was colourful and not oxidised.
There was a lovely crunch from the cabbages, crispy pieces as well as the fried prawns.
A very satisfying roll but it needed some chili sauce or something to add more kick to it.
However it was hard to eat because the fillings kept falling out.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I liked their rolls so much that I finally tried their Sheung Wan branch, but the food and environment is much better here.
