Average food at Common Grounds

Common Grounds (Sheung Wan)

Common Grounds is not to be confused with Common Ground because they serve very different styles of dishes and both happen to be in the Central/Sheungwan area.

Honestly I was expecting a bit more because it was located in the Sheung Wan area.

The food served was the general Chinese style Western dishes that you can find elsewhere such as pasta, steaks and fish.

The salad was ok but the greens could have been more crisp.

The soup was ok but them cream on top made it a bit too creamy.

Out of the whole menu, the roast pork knuckle was the one I liked but the wasabi could not be tasted because it was meant to be honey and wasabi roasted pork knuckle.

The hot chocolate was quite nice but unfortunately it had rose in it which ruined it.

The lemon panna cotta was nice because the taste and texture was nothing like real panna cotta.
I actually liked the curd texture of the dessert and it was not too creamy like proper panna cotta.

Pastrami burger from MOS burger

The pastrami burger looked interesting so ordered it.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pastrami burger:
The burger bun was different, the texture was crusty and chewy similar to baguettes.

It was filled with pastrami, mustard, tomato and lettuce.
The pastrami was different to the ones I have had before, the slices were wafer thin and soft which tasted totally different and not meaty.
It actually tasted like proscuitto with a tangy mustard vinaigrette sauce.

Tofu fries at OZU Bar

Came here randomly because the tofu fries on the menu got my attention.

Complimentary snacks:
$50 on all items on the sheet but there is a 10% service charge on top.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tofu fries:
oops! ruined the photos with flash!

The tofu pieces were piping hot and silky but the coating was a little too salty for my liking.
It also came with a side of sauce for dipping.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Overall, the service at this place was good because they gave me water even though I didn't order drinks and the snacks which I thought were charged were complimentary.

A really nice place for brunch at McSorley's Ale House

Came here for brunch and the environment was much nicer than anticipated.

At the front, there were lots of tables with a bar in the middle for social gatherings and there were also tables with privacy.

A nice sunny spot.

There was a good selection on the brunch menu.

Tried the scrambled egg with crab and truffle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
scrambled egg with crab:

There was not much crabmeat in the scrambled egg and the artificial truffle oil was too over powering.
The roast potatoes were a bit too hard.

Watch out for the new tea blends

Choosing a tea here is quite a headache because there are so many lovely choices!!
My favourites are Duchess Grey, Highland toffee, Whisky and Ginger andChristmas pudding.

Now, there are new blends to the tea collection.

Here are the opening hours, so don't get caught out.

A while ago, I went with friends and decided to try their picks which were Whisky and ginger and Bells of St Clements.

The Whisky and ginger was surprisingly good with a warming strong fiery ginger taste while the other one was pleasant.

The menu has healthy porridge too.

I have been here numerous times which is why there are so many different items on this review.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Healthy Porridge:

I have never liked porridge but I just felt compelled to eat it again because I havent had it for ages, anyway I was glad I had it because I was rekindled with that familiar creamy milky taste again.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Toasted teacakes:

Had this during Easter and it was deliciously buttered.
It was toasted just right with sticky sweet raisins.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mexican Chai:

(Chocolate and Chili)

This has now become my favourite blend because it was just like drinking chocolate with a chili kick.
The taste was amazing and extremely chocolatey, if you add milk and sugar, it is just like drinking hot chocolate.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hot cross buns:

These were Easter specials and they made two batches, the first batch was my favourite because it had pieces of apple in it.
The second batch were traditional with orange peel but were nice as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cherry slice:

This was annoyingly delicious but again it is a seasonal special.
I loved the vanilla icing on top with the layer of sweet jam in the middle.
HOPE THIS WILL BE PERMANENTLY ON THE MENU.

Go under the bridge for CRAB delights

Eating here was memorable and an invaluable experience as I have never officially had crab from a restaurant that specializes in crab.

While we were there, we filmed this food show called 食得招積.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

We started off with steamed crab in HuaDiao wine.

The steamed egg white was amazing because it was silky and full of wine flavour, while the crab was springy with a fermented wine taste.

Then we had the congee which was loaded with baby oysters, rice and thinly shredded ginger in a delicious sweet fish broth.

To finish off, we had the stir fried noodles in crab oil.

Each strand of noodle was evenly coated with fragrant crab oil balanced by the yellow chives.

Michelin style seafood at Sing Kee

This was my second time dining at Sing Kee.

The first time was rather memorable because it was my first proper seafood meal in Sai Kung and the first time meeting Gaufu.
It was even more memorable this time because I got to meet Chef Chau and film 食得招積 at Sing Kee Seafood Restaurant.

I got to eat my favourite abalone again which is cooked in two ways.
The pot contains fresh abalone cooked in sauce braised from dried abalone which gives it a rich flavour.
There is so much sauce which makes it good for dipping or as a delicious gravy with rice.

Then there is crispy abalone which is coated in a lovely light coating infused with garlic, pepper and their secret spices which does not over power the natrual taste of the abalone.

The second dish was the spicy crab which had a nice medley of flavours, it was spicy but had a nice pungent taste of egg yolk on the coating.

Lastly we had Chilled razor clams in secret sauce.

This dish was rather unique and great for the hot summer because it was extremely refreshing with chopped garlic, sesame seeds sprinkled on it.
The clam meat has been detached from the shells so you can just grab it with chopsticks and eat away with ease.
