Nice little joint but food needs improving

st.francis.st (Wan Chai)

This joint has been here for about a year but when they initially started there was only quiche on the menu.

The choices have got better so decided to give it a try.

They sell these gorgeous Nicepops which have slightly melted and refrozen again so I didn't buy them.

The scones were rather tiny and oddly shaped for $18.
To be honest they looked like coconut macaroons.

The slices of apple pie next to the scones were quite small too for $45.

Prawn cocktail:

There were not much prawns in the sandwich, although the cocktail sauce was quite nice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Croque monsieur:

The croque monsieur was quite good because the mustard sauce made it taste good but I wish they put proper ham into it because the ham they used was hard and rubbery.

Expat and tourist friendly place for hotpot

K Lok Spicy Chicken Hot Pot (Tsim Sha Tsui)

Came here with my cousin from the UK because this place has English speaking staff.

At every table there are USB chargers so you won't run out of batteries.

K Lok Spicy Chicken Hot Pot offers so many different types of hotpots.

The spicy hotpot is chicken in spicy sauce where you eat the chicken first and soup is added to the remaining sauce which becomes a broth for hotpot.
I saw someone have it and regretted not ordering it, but the one we had was special as well!

Our broth came in a wintermelon!!!

The broth was congee!
At first I thought it was thick congee but it was the broth you get from boiling rice so it did taste like congee.
After a while, they put rice in the hotpot, so that it becomes proper congee otherwise it would be hard to cook the items in thick congee from start.

Here was what we had with our hotpot.

Fried dough sticks with prawn patty:

You can eat them like that or dunk them in the hotpot.
We ate them without dunking them in the pot because it was really tasty with the grounded prawns on the top and the chewy crispy dough sticks.

Then we had crispy beancurd rolls which soaked up the tasty broth nicely.

We also had liver which was springy after it had been cooked.

The mixed meatballs were good and springy especially the squid.

The bone marrow was interesting, because I have never seen it like that, but after it was cooked the texture was lovely and gelatinous.

Then we had chive dumplings and K pots special dumplings.

Then we tried the chicken which you can see is evidently fresh and each chicken comes with an identity tag so that you can trace where it came from.

We finished off with smores which were dreamy and delicious.

By that time, there was proper congee in the wintermelon which was creamy and tasty, and the wintermelon was soft and good to eat.

Look out for the English menu, coming soon!

Nutty bites at Lucullus Gourmet Shop

Got some nutty bites from Lucullus Gourmet Shop because it came in a lovely slender brown tin.

There are two flavours, Cranberry and Rice crispy.

The chocolate coated cranberry had a sweeter taste with nutty bits in it.

Personally I preferred the nutty one because it was not so sweet with lovely pieces of rice crispies.

Another hot cuisine at Savory Kitchen

It's Savoury Kitchen's one year anniversary!!

Savoury Kitchen specializes in Hunan cuisine which is extremely spicy.

Here was what we had.

Most of them were too spicy so all I can say is how spicy they were!!

(I have not translated any of the dish names because the names would be meaningless in English)
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
七里湘絲

This was 7 different sides to go with the omelette wrap.
Potato, starch noodles, vegetables, black fungas, etc.
All of the sides were spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spicy crab

The crab was really nice, succulent, sweet and spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
永州血鴨

Duck in cooked in ducks blood.
This dish reminded me of Dinguan a Philipine pork dish cooked in blood.
However this dish was really spicy and it was mostly duck bones.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
干鍋肥腸

This was a dish of spicy Intestines.
(Did not try because I don't eat intestines.)
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef with cumin on a sizzling metal plate
鐵板孜然牛肉

This was my favourite because I love cumin, and there were finely chopped green beans which gave it a touch of sweetness that balanced the spiciness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
酸辣魚片

This was slices of fish cooked with spicy preserved vegetables.
It didn't look spicy but the preserved vegetables were extremely spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
梅雪爭香

This was steamed tofu topped with scallops.
Again, it was really spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
皮蛋拌青椒

This was preserved egg with green chili.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
毛氏紅燒肉

This was pork belly in rich gravy, the pork was nice and tender with even layers of fat.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
甜酒沖蛋

I loved the dessert because it was egg white with fermented rice.
Some people who also tried this dessert said the wine was not strong enough but I thought it was really fragrant and the sweetness was just right.

Change of sausages at The Canny Man

The Canny Man (Wan Chai)

This used to be my favourite place for bangers and chips but not anymore which is tragic because there is no other place that does good bangers and mash/chips.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
bangers and chips:

Before I started, I thought to myself perfect chips and bangers.
The Chips were perfectly done but the sausages that they served before have been changed to Cumberland sausages which are meatier.
There's nothing wrong with these sausages but I prefer the pork sausages.

Crab feast at 喜記蟹將軍

Came here for crab delights.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
蟹粉拌豆腐:

This was silky tofu topped with rich crabmeat.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
蟹粉扒時蔬:

Then we had vegetables topped with rich crab gravy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crab soup:

Crab soup was my favourite because there were so many ingredients such as crab, tofu and crab roe.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed hairy crabs:

The crabs had thick delicious runny crab roe which tasted like egg yolk.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
花雕蛋白蒸:

This was similar to the above but it was infused with wine.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried crab:

Compared to the steamed ones, the texture of the crab roe was chalky.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
crab with noodles:

This dish was ok but I didn't like the noodles because they were crispy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed buns:

The buns were filled with delicious runny egg custard.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
sweet soup:

To finish off, they serve ginger soup after a meal of crabs but Chinese dessert soups are not my cup of tea.
