Hoping for better pasta on my next visit at Saizeriya

There are always new dishes at Saizeriya, but unfortunately, the food I had this time was not that good.

Here was what I had and it is always fun comparing the product shots to the real thing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried scallops:

These were ok, small scallops coated in breadcrumbs.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled mackerel:

The mackerel was too dry.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ravioli in minestrone soup:

The colour of the soup was rather different and it was too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seafood pizza:

Tasteless!~
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salmon and spinach pasta:

The pasta was ok but they have changed the brand of pasta because the strands were thicker and the texture was really chewy like Chinese Yunnan rice noodles.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried ginger pork with spaghetti:

The pork was too sweet but the sauce was tasty.
Again, I don't like the new pasta that they serve because it was like eating plastic.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Meringue cake:

The meringue cake was really nice, it was layers of cream with crispy meringue in the middle and chocolate chips.
A very nice dessert if it was not too sweet.

Burgered at Burger Deli

On my first visit, I did not try their burgers so tried them this time.

I was able to dine there because they have extended their opening hours.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet potato fries:

Wow!! Sweet potato fries in Sai Kung!!
They were sweet and savoury with a crispy crunch.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawn burger:

The prawn burger was quite nice because there was a fair bit of prawns in the patty mixture.
It was on a bed of juicy tomato slices and lush lettuce which complimented it nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vegetarian burger:

As well as that I had their vegetarian burger which is rather unique compared to other places because it does not have a vegetarian patty but a huge portobello mushroom.
It has lettuce and tomato slices drizzled with hollandaise sauce.
The burger was simple and delicious with an earthy juicy mushroom that was filling and light.

A fiesta of cakes for summer at 2/3 Dolci

Summer is good because of vibrant colours and refreshing food.

On this visit, tried the new summer range.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Passiflora :

This was beautifully layered with bright orange meringue contrasted with a ruby red jelly on top which is made from blood orange.

Dolci's cakes are all about layering, the bottom layer is blood orange meringue, then a layer of thin white chocolate, passionfruit cream with passionfruit cake in the middle, then blood orange meringue, a layer of white chocolate and orange bloody jelly on top.
The taste of this was really fresh because the passionfruit cream was acidic balanced by the sweet white chocolate layer and the citrus tones from the meringue.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Millefogile :

This was layers of flakey pastry with dreamy vanilla cream in the middle that was not too sweet paired with fresh berries on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Daisy:

At first, I thought it was going to be a coffee or chocolate cake by its appearance.
The name of the cake Daisy was nice and elegant and shaped like a flower.

It had bergamot jelly in the middle which gave it a touch of citrus.
Tea lovers will love this cake because of the bergamot and strong tasting Earl grey mousse with soft cake in the middle.
The Earl grey mousse was balanced perfectly because it was light and silky as well as having a natrual fragrant taste.
This is a definite must try because it is different to other Earl grey cakes and the Earl grey taste really comes through.

Legendary Heichinrou mooncakes

If it were not for these mooncakes, I would not have known that Heichinrou dates back to 1884 and originates from Yokohama, Japan which was their very first branch in Chinatown.

Presently, Heichinrou is still the oldest and most loved Chinese restaurant in Japan.

This year, they have launched two different mooncakes, egg custard and lotus paste with eggyolk.

The mooncake box was Oriental and colourful.

Mini custard mooncakes:

Lotus paste and egg yolk mooncakes:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mini custard mooncakes:

Before I heated them up, the pastry looked dry.
After heating it up, the pastry was a bit soft and did not hold together.

The taste of these mooncakes were quite nice and the pastry was extremely buttery.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lotus paste and egg yolk mooncakes:

The lotus paste mooncake had perfectly symmetrical large yolks in the middle and it had a nice sweet and savoury balance with the egg yolk soft and starchy.

More Filipino food at Quezon

I was craving for fish so came here for my favourite fried fish.

As well as fish, they had pork skewers, taro swiss roll and taro candies.

There is another branch in Central that I would love to visit because there is a bigger variety at that joint.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish:

This fish is consistently good, almost 95% of it was edible because the bones are soft and the fish is delicately flavoured with vinegar which made it very appetizing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pork skewers

The skewer was surprisingly nice because the sauce that it was marinated in was citrusy and sweet.

Treasure box of chocolates and a moonchocolate

I love the new mooncake revolution that breaks the traditional, first they launched snowy mooncakes then the custard filled ones, now they have chocolate mooncakes as well as icecream mooncakes.

As well as the mooncakes, the boxes this year have become more creative, from tea tables to environmentally friendly ones.

The Lucullus mooncake box has a traditional touch to it which reminds me of the Chinese cheongsam dress and the beautiful Chinese knot buttons.

The back of the box is beautifully decorated with peonies and red roses.

Inside the Treasure box are chocolates, with four big pieces of chocolate which form the mooncake.

The chocolates are great for sharing.
[Clockwise from the top left: Mango white truffle, green apple truffle, lotus floral truffle and dark truffle ]

Persimmon truffle

Sesame truffle, Lychee truffle

Autumn leaf corn truffle, milk hazelnut crunch, milk pistachio coffee, dark four brother

The chocolate mooncake:

On each quarter, you can see the words Lucullus on the edges.

Green: coffee crunch, Red: pistachio chocolate crispy, blue: praline rice crispy, Yellow: dark truffle.

The chocolates were enjoyable, especially the new flavours such as lychee truffle and green apple truffle.

For those who still prefer the traditional mooncakes, there are other choices which have chocolates as well as the traditional mooncakes.
