A taste of Swiss cheese

Cheese is a must in the Western diet but in Hong Kong there are not a lot of varieties at the local supermarket and it is expensive.

I was attracted to this place because of the cheese fondue but I ended up having the Bayonne ham and Emmental cheese brioche. It satisfied my craving for a cheese toastie.

The ham was soft and tasty while the melted cheese held it together in the soft toasted brioche which was similar to toast.

I will be back for the cheese fondue which is quite a good deal and includes the ceramic pot and candle burner.

Second visit to Street meat

Went to Street Meat again because I wanted to have the yoghurt chicken again.

The portions were slightly smaller this time and the roti that they used for the lamb has been carefully halved so that it was a thin cracker!

Flushing lamb wrap:
Sous vide lamb with grilled leeks and Xinjiang spices.
This was gorgeous and flavourful, there was quite a lot of sauce too which made it difficult to eat but the flakey roti pastry held it together.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Midtown Halal bowl:
chicken sous vide with secret white greek yoghurt sauce and iceburg lettuce

This was my favourite because there was rice beneath it which was crispy and sticky, while the chicken was tender in generous appetizing yoghurt sauce.
The chicken was slow cooked but the portion was tiny this time.

Lab Made Cafe in CWB

Tang lung street used to be a street dominated by cars and red minibuses, it was dark and dirty.

Butao was the first brave restaurant to settle a branch there followed by a few others.

Now with the newly built Soundwill Plaza, Tang lung street is so much more glitzy with Jamie Olivers, The Point pizza and pasta and Lab Made.

The road is partially cordoned off which makes it safer for people.

Anyway, this new branch of Lab Made fits the scene and you can dine there comfortably for a coffee or cake as well as their famous nitrogen icecream.

That day I had the salted caramel icecream which tastes similar to the grill a corn.
It was slightly salty balanced by the caramel sauce with pieces of crunchies in it.

Next time I am going to try the volcanic lava cake!

Brunches at Crafty Cow!!

The brunch hours here are good because it goes on until 4:30 so 2pm is still not too late to get out of bed!
Anyway, they brunch is priced at $148 per person with a drink.

I went to Crafty cow for brunch because of the potato rosti and I love potato rostis.

Sadly, they didn't have potato rosti that day so I was served salad.

Apart from that minor glitch everything else was good!
Luckily I sat by the bar because I could see what the brunches looked like.
Here was the Big ass truffle grilled cheese and B.E.L.T being served.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beetroot juice:
It was freshly pressed beetroot juice so the taste was natural with bits of beetroot in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
smokey heart Reuben:
This was thin slices of cow's heart topped with cheese and pickle.
It was grilled to perfection and the cheese was still stringy.
The cow's heart tasted like beef pastrami and it was complemented nicely with the crunchy pickle.

Wagyu steak salad:

The beef was soft, sweet and juicy which went well with the crisp salad leaves and delicious soft tasty potatoes.

Brunch at Americanos

Since my last visit, there are new breakfast items so I went here for brunch.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Iced tea:

It was iced earl grey so I really liked it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Huevos Americanos:
The taco wraps were not soft enough but the runny egg yolk and delicious toppings made up for it and the bacon was the best because it was crispy and not too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
breakfast burrito:
The breakfast burrito was really tasty because it was loaded with cheese, egg, black beans and guacamole.

Lunches at Ba Yi

To be honest lunch here is better than the evenings because you can get a taste of mutton at a better deal.
Lunches are under $50 and there is no service charge.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cumin spiced mutton with rice :

I loved flavoured rice and this had shredded pieces of pumpkin in it garnished with raisins and onions.
As well as the rice, the lamb was tasty but the rice gets heavy towards the end because it has quite a lot of oil mixed into it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Noodles:

The noodle was in a delicious broth and there were lots of diced vegetables and pieces of tofu in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Goat's milk pudding:
The pudding was made from goat's milk powder but it still tasted ok because it was very creamy and silky.

Claypot for lunch

I was surprised to see claypot meals being offered during lunch time so I gave it a try.

There were two versions: normal rice or glutinous rice.

I chose the squid because it looked good and the glutinous rice was too heavy for lunch.

The advantage of choosing this is that you don't need to give the kitchen the ticket but wait for your number to be called out to collect.

Claypot rice with dried squid, diced chicken and poached egg:

I don't normally have food served in claypots because they have a weird smell but Fairwood does not normally serve these dishes hence the pots are new and don't have that weird smell which makes me throw up.
Anyway, I really enjoyed it because the rice was good and the patty was tasty with the pieces of squid and egg yolk mixed into it.
