[Review] Fen Noodles

Dumpling Shack, the successful dumpling joint at Old Spitalfields now has a sister!
Enter Fen Noodles which serves hand pulled biang biang noodles to order.
On the menu, you can choose the traditional lamb noodles, dry noodles etc.

There was also a tempting biang biang noodle with curry and potato but I decided to go for the traditional as it was my first time here.
As it is North Eastern Chinese food, expect the food to be spicy with tonnes of garlic.

The noodles were freshly made unlike restaurants in Hong Kong but obviously if you go to China, you would probably get the real deal.
The noodles were firm and al dente as expected with a good degree of spiciness.
I found the mild spiciness to be extremely spicy so be warned.

Hope to return for the curry biang if I am back and try the Dumpling Shack as well.

[Review] Croydon Miso Noodle Bar

There are four branches of Miso Noodle Bar in UK..
As I was in Croydon, I decided to try Miso Noodle Bar which serves noodles in various styles
The menu had a lot of variety so it was really hard to choose.
Both the Wok Fried Noodles and Sauce based noodles were captivating.

In the end got the number 41. [CHICKEN IN CHILLI AND ORIENTAL BLACK BEAN SAUCE
- Soba noodles, stir fried chicken breast, red and green peppers, garlic and fresh chilli]
When it came, I was surprised how big the portion was.
The noodles had a lovely aromatic black bean smell so it was appetizing.
As expected, the noodles were tossed in lots of sauce topped with generous pieces of tender chicken breast meat.

However, the soba noodles looked a little different to the usual Japanese soba but it was all good.

Will be back to try the other noodles.

[Review] Yummy Noodle Bar

Born and bred in Eastbourne, this was my regular noodle joint for Pad Thai when I was a kid.
Being away from town, I have been itching to go back.

Since my last visit, it is no longer a small noodle bar but a big noodle restaurant with another branch somewhere in town.

Without further ado, the pad thai is a must and I also ordered the Mixed Vegetable chow mein as I have never tried their chow mein.

For the pad thai, there are two versions, a vegetarian one and a non veg one which contains fish sauce.
The vegetable pad thai tasted just as good as before but slightly different to the prawn pad thai as it was my first time having the vegetarian one.

As for the mixed vegetable chow mein, the taste was fantastic.
Each strand was uniformly flavoured and covered in sauce complimented by the crunchy vegetables.

Will definitely be back for other noodles and the price tag is definitely affordable.
Tap water is available and self service.

Lovingly made in Hong Kong by [Little Farmer]

I was attracted by the restaurant decor because it gave me the impression they were serving healthy dinners.
The decor was relaxing and made you feel at home.

There was a lot to offer on the menu and the prices were very friendly.
What I appreciate is that they use locally farmed poultry, Black Iberian pigs to local organic vegetables.

Each dish on the menu is inspired by Chinese phrases which portrays the way people communicate and behave in Hong Kong.

Started with fresh juices that cost $18 per glass where no sweeteners are added. There was papaya pumpkin, Jackfruit, red dragon fruit and pumpkin, lemongrass and lime barley water and longan water. The combinations were good and healthy.

For mains, the star of the show are the noodles which come in a rich chicken broth infused with Chinese ham or Miso broth made with Iberican Pig Bones. Both broths were strong and MSG free. The set which a drink and dish only costs $68.

As well as noodles, there is healthy mixed grain rice to choose and here is the meat free option with mushrooms as a main dish.

The pork and ginger was cooked in ginger juice so it had that appetizing ginger fieriness.

Last but not least was the spare ribs which are set alight in front of you. It was sweet and sticky like perfectly roast charsiu.

Definitely coming back for more noodles because I like broths. Next time I will try the mushroom noodles.

In love with Malaysian Mimi noodles at [Mimila]

There is an abundance of Singaporean food in HK but not many options for Malaysian food.
Discovered this place as I was in Shatin.
What led me here was the escalator that is a travelator to begin with before it ascends into an escalator.

As I was curious, I took them and it led me right into Mimila as it is the first shop that greets you when you get off the escalator.

I loved the baby blue theme and modern bar table by the kitchen.

Mimila is a Modern Malay noodle joint according to the menu and the desserts were captivating as well as the noodles.

Before indulging on the desserts, I had to get a noodle which is the star of Mimila. There are two types, soup or tossed noodles. For May, they are doing Laksa Chicken Rice which looked tempting on the menu as the rice and laksa are separated so the rice doesn't get soggy

I had the tossed noodles with prawn roe dry mimi noodles.

As well as prawn you can choose Spanish white pork slices or White Pepper Ribs for a more Malaysian twist to it.

I was really pleased because I love thin noodles and they serve prawn roe noodles which give it an even more prawny taste. I forgot to take a picture of the hot soy sauce but a few drops to the noodles made them wonderful as the chili in it gave the noodles a lovely spicy flare.

For drinks, I had the Barley Lemon water which was comforting and not too sweet.

Now to the desserts which were equally as good as the noodles. I absolutely love fragrant pandan chiffon cakes and here they serve it with whipped cream and desiccated coconut which makes it taste even fantastic.

The durian Swiss roll was sold out so had the durian cheesecake which was also good.

Definitely coming back again for the other noodles.

Seaweed noodles

I love this place because they serve modern noodles in bright purple bowls which makes the noodles experience fun.The choices of noodles are good and I came specifically for the seaweed noodles which were sold out last time.

You get to choose three items to go with the noodles and I chose okra, Hiroshima oysters and pork knuckles.

The oysters were plump with a strong taste, while the okra was a healthy treat.

The seaweed noodles are a bit like glass vermicelli but lacking the elasticity and sweetness which is good because it absorbs the delicious pork broth that gives it flavour.

Nissin ramen popup store at LOF10 Bar Dining

As a fan of Nissin noodles, I had to check out the Nissin ramen popup at LOF10 in Causeway Bay where they have decorated the place like a ramen joint with ramen bowls and Nissin figures.

On the menu special, there are four sets to choose from ranging from $88-$108, all including a noodle, dessert and drink.

For me, it is super difficult to decide which one to get but in the end I narrowed it down to the two.
It was either the soup or the one with luncheon meat so I settled for the soup one because of the okra.
The ramen turned out really good because the softness was just right and the broth was good with a poached egg which makes the broth even richer.

For dessert, there was the bubble eggette topped with syrup and rose petals.

Finished with a satisfying latte.
