POT noodle

Buddy Noodle House (Wan Chai)

Buddy Noodle House is a new noodle joint that I discovered recently.

I was attracted to this place because one of their noodles are served in a retro CHINESE ceramic POT!!
It reminds me of that cafe in Sheung Wan.

The menu is the usual.

It is interesting that if you choose one or two items the prices are still the same, ie $28.

For a noodle joint, the decor was quite modern.

Here were the noodles I tried
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
POT noodle:

Basically it has a mixture of items, beef, wontons etc.
I quite liked the noodles because the alkaline taste was not too strong and there were lots of spring onions.
Although the size is meant to be bigger than the normal bowl noodles, I found the portion of noodles were roughly the same as the bowl.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tossed noodles with beef tendons:

The thick noodles had an alkaline taste and the sauce that it was tossed in was not that strong.
I did not like the beef tendons because they were very hairy!
These must have been the hairiest tendons I have tried in my life because I found loads that I lost my appetite to finish the noodles.

Fried chicken drumettes from Trigger Dog Family

Trigger Dog Family (North Point)

After dining at Sooo Vegi (vegetarian) next door, I was still hungry!
I went for the fried chicken drumettes because I have always wanted to try their chicken.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken drumettes:

At first I did not know they were all drumettes, when I opened the box I was delighted to see that they were drumettes because I don't like the wing part.
The coating was golden and crispy and not too salty and the chicken was nice and springy.
Usually if you get the hot dog set, they are only $3 as an add on but since I got them a la carte, they cost me $18.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Sadly, they have stopped the seafood dog, so I could not order it.

Thanksgiving turkey burro

Little Burro (Causeway Bay)

During 24th-30th November 2013, Little Burro served a special Thanksgiving Burrito!
Previously they did a really good one for Halloween 2013 which was why I went back to try the Thanksgiving one.

The Thanksgiving Burrito is a burrito filled with Turkey meat slow-cooked with tequila and Mexican beer, dressed with a bourbon-spiked chilli cranberry jam!
The burrito is made to 600g just like their previous Halloween boo-rrito.

On this visit, I sat at their back yard which is nicely decorated with graffiti.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Thanksgiving Burrito:

Before I tried it, you could visually see lots of turkey in the middle.

After trying it, I was quite disappointed because the turkey was dry and tasteless and there was too much turkey.

I could not even taste the tequilla or cranberry.

It would have been great if they mixed all the ingredients before making the roll so then all the ingredients would have an even taste with the beans and salad evenly distributed.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Water:

Since my last visit, it is good to see that they have refilled the bottles of water and have cups available for people to use.

Green Monday at CoCo Ichibanya

CoCo Ichibanya (Tai Koo)

Had a craving for curry but did not feel like eating meat so came here.
You can literally choose anything to go with the curry so I opted for the Tofu and okra curry as a base and added tomato and asparagus to it at an extra cost.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Curry:

I really loved the curry sauce, the texture was similar to gravy with a prominent curry taste.
The ingredients I chose went well together especially the tomatoes which made the curry even more appetizing because the tomatoes they used were the canned type which have an acidic taste.
The okra and tofu were as good as usual and the asparagus gave it a nice crunch.

Blackest star!

The Blackstar Kitchen And cockails (Sheung Wan)
I thought I was going to like this place but after dining there I did not like it because of the customer service.

Arrived for lunch, when the tables were empty either side.

Ordered my lunch.
Shortly after that, people arrived and sat BOTH sideS BESIDE of me.

THE THING THAT PISSED ME OFF WAS THAT AFTER I ORDERED THEY DID NOT EVEN SERVE ME THE BREAD WHICH WAS ON THE MENU, IE SOUP WITH BREAD.
HOWEVER THEY SERVED BREAD TO THE PEOPLE EITHER SIDE OF ME WHO HAD NOT EVEN ORDERED YET.
I REALLY REGRETTED NOT WALKING OUT AT THIS POINT BECAUSE THERE ARE LOADS OF EATERIES NEARBY WHICH I HAVE YET TO TRY SO IT'S NOT LIKE I HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS CRAP.

AFTER ASKING THE WAITER WHETHER BREAD COMES WITH MY LUNCH SET, THEY SAID IT WAS COMING!
THEN AFTER QUITE A WHILE, I WAS SERVED THE BREAD.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
ACCORDING TO THE DUMB MENU, THE APPETIZER SAYS:
SOUP OF THE DAY, FRESH BREAD WITH HOUSE SALAD & AVOCADO PRAWN.

THE APPETIZER THEY GAVE OUT WAS PRETTY DAMN RANDOM TOO.
I WAS SERVED A PIECE OF FRITTATA/QUICHE WHILE THE OTHER TABLE WAS SERVED PROSCIUTTO.

THE TABLE BESIDE ME ALSO ORDERED THE REGULAR LUNCH SO THE APPETIZER SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME BECAUSE IT WAS NOT THE CHRISTMAS SET LUNCH WHICH HAD THE SALMON FOR THE APPETIZER.

THE NOSY WAITERS WERE ALSO CURIOUS TO SEE WHAT PICTURES I WAS TAKING BECAUSE THEY WERE BEHIND ME PEEKING AT MY SCREEN.

........ENOUGH SAID......
THE FOOD WAS NOT IMPRESSIVE.

Jamtastic soda

let's Jam (Sai Kung)

After eating nearby, I needed to get a drink, so went to let's Jam because I like their sodas.

Basically their sodas are made with a choice of homemade jam, soda water and syrup.

There were so many jams to choose from:
Pear and wine
apple and rose
apple and cinnamon
blueberry
and many more.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple and cinnamon:

Previously tried the apple and rose soda, so this time chose the apple and cinnamon.
I requested the soda to be less sweet so they put less syrup in it.
Next time I will request for jam and soda only.
Although it was not too sweet, I loved the puree pieces of apple in the drink and it would be great if they put some whipped cream on top to enhance the taste just like some other places where they serve hot apple beverages with whipped cream on top!

Cheap and delicious noodles from 金發車仔麵

金發車仔麵 (Choi Hung)

This noodle joint is great but the location is only beneficial to the people who live or work there.

The noodles are CHEAP, it only costs $18 for a bowl of noodles and two items of your choice.
I was tempted to try their pumpkin sago too.

On my first visit, I had instant noodles with fried chicken cutlet and braised beef.

In the summer you are probably going to get food poisoning because they do not heat up the pre-fried chicken cutlet which is just put in that bowl with the hot soup poured over it, same with the other items.

On the second visit, I had instant noodles in sauce without the soup!
But saying that, she puts a whole ladle of sauce in the bowl, so the noodles tastes so much better than the soup one.
This time I chose ox tripe because it is one of the items that are in a heated pot.

The noodles on the second visit were great because the noodles tasted really good in that thick braised beef sauce.
The lady was also quite nice to ask if I wanted to use the sesame oil and broth powder that came with it. {ie Nissin Instant noodles!!!}
To be on the safe side, the braised beef and beef tendons are safe to pick because they are heated but the rest rely on the hot soup to warm it up!
I wonder if I will get food poisoning in the summer!~

Delicious festive food from Kung Fu Dim Sum

Got these from Kung Fu Dim Sum.

Tried the White radish cake immediately.
I liked the chunky white radish pieces in the middle with the dried shrimp and preserved wax sausages on top.

It was not too salty which was great and I look forward to trying the coconut milk CNY pudding because I need to pan fried it first.

I Do Like Fish & Chick Beside The Seaside

Fish & Chick (Western District)
Ever since The Chippy closed down in the heart of Central, I have been looking for a good place for Fish and Chips.

When I heard about this new chippy I had to go there ASAP~
This place is called Fish & Chick serving my beloved roast chicken too!

Located in Kennedy town and facing the sea, it was the best location to ever be in Hong Kong!
A real decent seafront without anything in the sea such as the Hongkish ferry harbour or those small smelly boats in Sai Kung which pollute the seafront with the smell of petrol.

Kennedy Town has the best sea view in my opinion, you can see and smell sea air which reminds me of the seaside town I was born in.

Luckily I was born in the scenic Victorian town of Eaxtbxurxe down the south east by the sea, so I could take a stroll anytime along the seafront, the pier and at the other neighbouring seaside towns.

I fell in love with Fish and Chips one day when my grandma took me to Qualisea.

During the summer people would flock there to get some tan on the pebble beaches.

Just for fun I have changed the lyrics to the song:

[I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside - A song composed at a time when the yearly visits of the British working-class to the seaside were booming]

Oh I do like Fish & Chick beside the seaside
Oh I do like Fish & Chips beside the sea
Oh I do like to walk along the prom prom prom
Where the brass band plays tiddly-om-pom-pom
Just let me have Fish & Chips beside the seaside
I’ll be beside myself with glee
There are lots of fish
That I’d like Fish & Chick besides
Beside the seaside, beside the sea

Anyway when I got there, it was the Chippy I had in mind!
Decorated in sea blue with cartoon fonts.

[Note! The people dining at the front and the stools happen to match the decor!!]

On the walls they had oars and a boat wheel which really reminded me of seaside towns.

At the far end, I loved the neon letterings of the name.

When you dine there, there is an amazing view of the sea!
There is a lovely fish and chip shop smell too.

The menu had fish and chips and there were quite a few choices for fish such as Cod, Ling, Red snapper, Barramundi etc.

It was like a combined menu from ChipIn (Sai Kung) and SeaSalt (Mosque Street) because it features the fishermans basket (squid, prawn and fish) and the use of canola oil just like ChipIn.
The choice of fish on the menu and the price reminds me of Seasalt.

I came here a few times because I had to try the different fishes as well as roasted chicken on the rotisserie which they marinate there.

They have nice designed boxes for takeaways too.

Here was what I had!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
COD and chips:

The cod was divine! It was flakey and chunky.

The best thing was that cod skin was attached which added to the flavour just like the ones in the UK.
On the side there was tartar sauce, salt flakes and vinegar, the salt flakes were amazing with the fish because it enhanced it without being too salty.
It was good that it came with a side of vinegar because vinegar is a must with Fish and Chips but I would prefer shaking it out of a bottle because it gives an even distribution of vinegar and I can put as much as I want.
It kills the fun not being able to shake it from the bottle.
As for the chips, they tasted nice with the fish but they were not the chips I was looking for.
The fish was a bit watery which you can see from the picture.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast chicken with mash:

The chicken was tender and amazing and it had lovely stuffing rubbed on the other side.
I loved the crispy chicken skin!!
It was good that they put effort and sliced the chicken into smaller chunks before serving.
However the gravy tasted a bit like coffee and the mash tasted like instant mash mix which was a bit dry but saying that instant mash mix tastes good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ling and chips:
Compared to the COD, the texture of the Ling fish was dense and slightly dry.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Anyway! I will be back and I do like to be beside the seaside!
