Thai food in an isolated part of town @ 泰屋 Sawadee Thai Restaurant

The selection is the normal selection you would find at any thai place, apart from that, there is also a fresh seafood bar to order seafood and cook it the style you want.

The best dish was the prawn fried rice, from the picture, you can see tiny dried sakura shrimps, adding saltiness to the rice.

dried prawn roe and fish floss with noodles @ 楊記麵家 Yeung's Noodle

I came here especially to try the dried prawn roe and fish floss with noodles. I was assuming the fish floss would taste sweet, just like pork floss.

Anyway I ordered the dried prawn roe fish floss noodles, the noodles were covered in an abundunce of dried prawn roe and fish floss. When I tried the fish floss, it was crunchy with an oven roasted saltiness. The dried prawn roe, had that salty taste to it.

The noodles were soft, and slightly moist to adhere the roe, and fish floss, all tasted to perfection, however I felt the other noodles would be a bit bland, as the fish gives it the strongest flavour.

After getting halfway through the noodles, I could taste the pork fat used to mixed the noodles together, I suppose without it, the whole combination wouldnt work.

Finally the soup was a good thing to finish the noodles off with, sweet in taste, and no MSG whatsoever. However I could not taste the slight bitterness described by others, nor the dried fruit peel.

Anyway will definately come here again.

Cantonese thai food @ Chili Club

I booked a table through the phone, and the guy replied " a table for fee at wun o cock" , so based on his accent, I was expecting some cantonese styled food.

When we got there, the atmosphere was OK, a mix of western ppl and cantonese ppl having lunch there. Waitors anxiously trying to serve people and looking busy.
Luckily there was a chi-eng menu, anyway I ordered the PAD THAI, which came at a reasonable time, however they did'nt give me lemon/lime, which I had to request for, shown in the pic, served in a sauce dish.

I wasnt very pleased when I got the noodles, it was wet, Phad thai is not meant to be wet, also there was chili in it. Anyone would know there is no chili in that, also it tasted a bit sweet.
Most Pad Thais have prawn in it too, none in my dish either.

I think next time I would be safer ordering fried rice instead.

Tofu heaven @ tofuism 豆腐主義

I love tofu, but usually the places that do the pan-fried tofu with fish paste on top are usually road-side restaurant. As Hong Kong is a hot environment, I am more concerned about hygiene, so I can only eat this during the winter.

Anyway this place totally appealed to me, especially it has a hip English name, the fonts have had thought put into it too.

The menu is also amazing, endless choice, which I have to go back again next time.

This time I tried the fried black tofu with fish paste, tofu sharkfins soup and PeiPa tofu.
All tasted good, and the hygiene was good, the plates were clean, not the sticky plates you would find in the road-side restaurants.

Black Tofu - a generous portion of 5 pieces for $10, the tofu tasted a bit firmer, not as soft as other places, but tasted ok.

Tofu sharkfin soup - tasted perfect, not too salty and no MSG.
The ingredients in this soup were a perfect match: glass vermicelli, tofu, black fungus, very very very fine shreds of duck meat. Infact the soup was a very big portion, and the duck meat enriched the flavour of the soup, overall I was very impressed with the soup because of geniune meat rather than grounded meat.
The temperature was also just right for a superhot day, a torture of heating oneself up in a hot day drinking piping hot soup.

PeiPa tofu: I never tried it before, so this is my first time, but I got a real good impression from it. The outside was golden yellow, and the texture of the crunch was like authentic tempura.
Inside it was filled with fish, herbs and tofu, also not too salty.
The whole thing was 100% edible, first class fish paste, because there were no grounded fish bones to spoil it.

Overall A class tofu for a very cheap price. Awaiting for a branch to open in kowloon or Hong Kong would be great.
The deep fried PeiPa was excellent, as the oil used to fry it was fresh too.
Hope it keeps this standard in the future.

Snowflake ice @ 甜品老媽 Dessert Lo Ma

So happy, finally had a chance to try the snowflake ice, I actually gave up twice at the other place, but after discovering that the snowflake ice is exactly the same as the MK one, I was totally confident to try it here.

Basically, production wise, it would be the same, as the same machine is used to make it, and taste wise, they both order from the same manufacturer, and the add on ingredients were the same too by comparision, ie the pearls, liquid filled pearls, stars etc.

The snowflake ice base has 11 flavours to choose from, hence I chose the milk one to start off with, to get a feel for its textures and taste the toppings.

I chose hazelnut sauce, however I wasnt sure if it was on it or not, cos the whole dessert was plain white, not a sign of any sauce on it, I was expecting hazelnut to be brown? Anyway the other toppings I added were mango stars, white pearls, and chocolated filled pearls.

The snowflake ice tasted how I expected it to be, a icy texture slowly melting into cold milky liquid, then adding the toppings to it, added some chewy texture oozing with melted snowflake, due to the pearls.
Then eating the snowflake with the chocolate pearls, it was like bursts of chocolate sauce. As for the mango stars, they were rather soft and sweet.
But overall I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Buffulo wings and Grilled chicken @ Freshness Burger

I chose the new snacks at Freshness burger, Buffulo wings, Grilled chicken, Caramel pudding and green tea pudding with Raspberry.

The buffulo wings were crunchy and strong in tomato salsa sauce, the grilled chicken was very nice and tender, slightly sweet due to the teriyaki sauce.
Although the desserts were made by epoch, I liked them the best, creamy pudding with sauce.

Fried sushi roll @ KFC

Had a really good expectation of the sushi roll, as sushi can never go wrong.
So ordered two.

The outer side of sushi is covered in crunchy breadcrumbs, and the inside is piping hot.
The center is composed of crabmeat, prawn, thousand island sauce, wrapped in rice, then a layer of seaweed.

Overall it tasted good, two is not enough!
