Brown sugar Sachima by Taipan

Taipan Bread & Cakes (North Point)

Sachimas are popular treats for kids.

To me, they are similar to sticky rice crispy/cornflake bars made in cookery lessons at school.

I was attracted to the ones at Taipan because they had so many flavours for the sachima!!

-Brown sugar and cashew nut
-peanut and raisin
-orange and honey
-ginger
-meat floss

The flavours were rather funky and modern!!

Anyway I bought the Brown sugar and cashew nut flavour.

Brown sugar and cashew nut sachima:

The good thing about these modern sachimas is that they do not have that weird smell.


The sachimas were light and delicious, the sweetness was just right, but the brown sugar taste was not strong enough.
The main problem was that it fell apart when you ate them.

Squid ink series @ The Ramen

The Ramen (Kowloon Bay)

Came here because the other places were packed and this place was quite empty.


I was attracted by the black squid udon and ramen so ordered them both.
I believe they mean Squid ink/Black squid ink because there is no such thing as black squid.

Black squid yaki udon:

The udon was nice and al-dente and the squid ink sauce was a little too salty and the crushed garlic was too strong.

Black squid Miso ramen:

I ordered this because it was not spicy according to staff, but when it came it was red because they gave me this other spicy ramen by mistake.

After a while, the correct one came, but it was slightly spicy so I believed they used the same ramen but put it in the squid ink broth.
The ramen fared better than the udon because the broth was stronger.

The ramens were a bit overpriced in my opinion.

Tasteless broth @ Gyujin

GyuJin (Tseung Kwan O)

Tried this place because all the other options were packed with people.


Chose the milk broth which was tasteless, luckily they had fried rice, plain rice and Japanese curry.

Japanese curry:


Luckily this tasted quite nice but the herbs in it were quite strong.
Japanese pearl rice was used for both plain rice and fried rice.
The curry tasted nice with tofu and fishballs which you can cook in the hotpot.

Icecream incident:
The icecream that they have is Haagen Daz which is hard to scoop out.
It was quite funny because someone got stressed out scooping some Baileys icecream and it made a strand of their hair fall out because it went straight in the icecream which fell in the strawberry section!


No one touched it afterwards!~

Jackeline's healthy private kitchen 健康私房菜

Jackeline is well known for her treatments on Acne, she is seen on TV commercials and adverts on buses.

I was invited to a Private Kitchen dinner promoting healthy food, before I got there I did not associate that Jackeline was indeed the famous Jackeline for treating Acne.

I was led there by fellow bloggers and we arrived at this industrial building opposite Tsuen Wan police station, it was when I saw the front of the place I realised it was the famous Jackeline.

We were greeted by Jackeline who is a sweet and friendly lady.

She is such a Charismatic lady who can cook healthy dishes as well.

Here is what we tried.

Lychee gin and tonic 荔枝琴通寧

琴酒加入新鮮荔枝肉浸泡,全天然清新甜香。

Gin with fresh lychee and lemon.



Non alcoholic version:




To start off with, this drink was a lovely refreshment because it was light and bubbly, the best thing about it was that it was not sweetened so the sweetness is from the natrual lychees.

咸柑桔羅漢果茶:


潤喉清熱又解毒,柑桔咸香配合細膩的羅漢果甜,意想不到的合襯

Salted tangerine and Momordica drink:

Although there is no picture, this was amazing too because it was unsweetened.

酸甜紅蘿蔔:


青木瓜及嫩酸薑:高纖蔬菜有助調理腸胃,酸酸甜甜,開胃又幫助消化


Pickled sweet carrots:

This was a nice appetizer to start off with.

雞肝醬脆米球:自家製雞肝醬切粒後包裹熟芝麻及脆米,芝麻的果仁香及脆卜卜的米粒,更突出雞肝醬的味道。

Liver pate in crisp coating.




These cute morsels looking like chocolate truffles were delicious balls of chicken pate rolled in crisp cereal.

The taste was just divine!

響螺沙參燉瘦肉:加入明目枸杞、清熱冬瓜,此湯清滋補陰,適合捱夜人士飲用



Again a delicious oil free soup, but it was a bit hot that day to drink soup.

荷葉五穀飯:將白米、紅米、小米、薏米、綠豆包在荷葉中蒸熟,清熱又補脾胃



This was mixed grain rice which provides good roughage for the body, it was deliciously complemented by silky chicken liver pate which makes the grains of rice smoother when you eat it.

淮山百合炒木耳:淮山益气補脾腎,百合清甜滋潤,木耳則養血美顏。




I love this this healthy mix of vegetables.

上湯金銀蛋南瓜苗: 南瓜苗由本地農場即日採摘,爽甜回甘,富有營養及食療價值。



This was my favourite because I rarely get a chance to try the pumpkin plant, the twines and leaves were delicious.

The abalone was steamed with their homemade dried citrus peel.

The stir fried crab was deliciously done and tasted like professional dishes served in restaurants.

Although high in cholesterol it was delicious and the shell was edible too!

酥炸冬菇:鮮冬菇肉感幼滑,酥炸後菇味更突出。有極高抗氧化功能,比靈芝還要高!



The Chinese mushrooms were delicious and extremely crispy that made a crispy noise when you ate them.

蒜炒蕃薯葉:Jackeline自家種植,蕃薯有的好處,蕃薯葉通通都有,而熱量只有蕃薯的四分之一,豐富的纖維質,讓人有飽足感之餘,更有助改善腸道健康。注重養生又怕胖的人,地瓜葉將會是更好的選擇!

They were tender and sweet.

Chinese dumplings filled with mashed sweet potato, sea salt and condensed milk.

The filling was delicious and tasted like salted egg yolk.

Overall, the meal was really delicious HEALTHY, NON OILY meal that was flavoured just right~

Exotic high tea with a great view of Hong Kong

Mango Tree (Tsim Sha Tsui)

Tried the scrumptious high tea set at Mango tree which had a great view of Hong Kong.


There were two sets to choose from: Delight or Deluxe for two.

We tried the Deluxe high tea set.

I started from the bottom plate which had the heavier items, then moved on to the second plate which was salads, and then the sweet selection.

Bottom plate:

Barbequed Jumbo River Prawns
Before I ate them, I could already smell them, the texture of the prawns were nice and springy.
Crispy Rice Crackers
The rice crackers were really nice and crispy, it was light and had minced prawns on top with a hint of lemongrass.
Chicken in Pandan Leaves
The chicken was really tender and tasted really nice with the sauces provided.

Middle plate:

Pomelo Salad with Crab Meat
The pomelo salad was really refreshing with pieces of delicate crab, there were lots of grated coconut in it too which made it really fruity and fragrant.
Spicy Prawn Salad with Green Mango
This was quite spicy but the green mango balanced it out.
Soft Shell Crab Rice Paper Rolls
The crab was nice balanced by the salad leaves in the wrap.

Top plate:

Sago Pudding with Coconut Cream:
It had bits of taro, sago and sweetcorn and the sweetness was just right.
Thai Pandan Layer Cake
The pandan taste was nice and strong and the sweetness was soothing.
Mango Cheesecake
For those who do not like cheesecake, you can change it to sticky rice with mango, but the sticky rice goes hard after it cools down which is why it is Mango cheesecase by default as the sweet platter is eaten last.
Personally I really liked the cheesecake here and a lot of people will like it too because the texture was soft like mousse and light.

Lychee smash:

I loved this because it was refreshing and it had a hint of lime and mint.

Sticky rice with mango:

The ones I have tried before are purple rice so this was quite different as it was white glutinous rice.
I felt that it tasted better because it was not so heavy and it was warm and soft.

Lychee homemade icecream:

This was interesting because usually you get Lychee sorbets, the taste in icecream form was interesting.

Mango homemade icecream:

The taste was a bit milky.

Coconut homemade icecream:

This was my favourite because the coconut taste was strong and had natural with bits of coconut in it.

Rhubarb tart to die for

La Rotisserie (Sheung Wan)

Had a craving for potatoes that day so La Rotisserie sprung in my mind and this other place for baked potatoes or curried potato salad.

As La Rotisserie was nearer to the MTR, I checked it out first.
The roast potatoes that day were a bit chunky and the quiches and tarts were really appealing because I have not tried their spinach quiche and the Rhubarb one I definately had to get because not places places do Rhubarb in Hong Kong.

Spinach and goats cheese quiche:

I avoid goats cheese because sometimes the taste can be really awful but decided to try it anyway.

The goats cheese here was pleasant and it had a sharp taste and a crumbly texture.

The quiche was loaded with delicious spinach and it was really delicious.
I wanted the tomato quiche too because I was craving for that eggy, cheesy filling but there were other things I wanted to try.

Lentils:


These were lentils and not many places cook it this way so I had to try it as well.
I thought they were vegetarian but it had bacon in it, so its not suitable for vegetarians unfortunately because it was delicious!
For $25, I got a HUGE pot of it which I could not finish!
Although I am not vegetarian or a bacon lover, it definately tasted amazing with the bacon because it added savourness and smokyness to the lentils.
As well as bacon, there were crispy diced onions, tomatoes, and herbs.

Rhubarb tart:


This tart was divine as well!
There were huge chunks of rhubarb generously placed in every square of the tart.
The combination of the custard egg filling and rhubarb was great and it was not too sweet.
It tastes better than rhubarb crumble too, but if there was one infront of me right now I would want to eat it as well.
I love rhubarb because it has a really sharp taste, it basically looks like a crimson coloured celery stalk but the leaves are poisonous.

Luckily there was a ledge on their shop window so I could eat it there!
