The Trigger Dog Family has grown

Trigger Dog Family (North Point)

Since my last visit, this place has been in the limelight.

They have created two more new hotdogs and palmiers.

There is going to be a cake cabinet soon with cakes, macarons and even cocktails.
I am really looking forward to this other hotdog with avocado filling.

Here was what we tried:

Both hotdogs were paired with frankfurters which has a nice soft texture that doesn't distract you when your eating it and the buns were lovely and soft.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Oliver:

Looking like a hotdog covered in cocktail sauce or mentaiko dressing, it is actually a hotdog with seafood on top.
I wasn't sure how they were going to taste together but this has now become my favourite hotdog because of the sauce and seafood.
The sauce is made from tomato, yoghurt and sesame making it slightly Turkish style because the tomato and yoghurt was really appetizing.
As for the seafood filling, it was tasty and not like the normal frozen ones which are rubbery and tasteless.
They were pieces of small mussels and pieces of squid which went really well with the Frankfurter.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crazy dog:

This was a frankfurter topped with pork chili con carne which has a better delicate texture.
It is a tastier version of Wendy which is beef bolognaise (please see previous review).
The spices in this gave it more depth and kick and personally I love chili con carne.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate brownie:

The chocolate brownie was as good as before and not cloyingly sweet.
I loved it warm because it was soft and had a strong cocao taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Palmiers:

I was surprised they made Palmiers.
They were quite nice because the buttery taste and smell was not too overpowering.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Looking forward to the coming hotdog with avocado filling and possible fried chicken!

Italian food at Oak Tree Ristorante

Oak Tree Ristorante (Jordan)
Located in the quiet end of Jordan lies Oak Tree Ristorante.

It has fun and lively vibes for gatherings and large groups.

Here was what we tried:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fresh Oysters:

Scotland and Tasmanian oysters.
Both were nice and fresh, nicely opened without pieces of shell in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Italian Antipasto Plate with Farmer Bread:

A nice selection of Parma ham, mozzarella di bufala, salami, artichokes, grilled vegetables in extra virgin olive oil.
Their bread was deliciously soft with lots of fragrant herbs.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Black Truffle and Porcini Mushrooms Cream Soup:

Tasted extremely milky with lots of porcini mushrooms that had a crunch to it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom and Truffle Pizza:

Tomato, mozzarella cheese, mixed mushrooms & truffles.
I liked the pizza because the tomato base was really tangy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
1/2 Lobster Tail in Wine Sauce topped with Black Truffle Shaving:

The lobster could have been meatier.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Meat platter:

A selection of prime Rib Eye, US Pork Chop and lamb Chops.
As I was quite full I did not try it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom and seabass Risotto:

Italian rice slowly cooked in mushroom served with seabass.
The risotto was nice and creamy and the fish was tender.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Gnocchi alla Romana:

This was my favourite Italian potato gnocchi.
It was soft and thickly covered in delicious tomato sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Classic Tiramisu:

Nice and creamy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Napoleon Cake:

Light and flakey pastry with sweet strawberries in the middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Snow Ball:

After trying this, Snow ball is now my favourite alcoholic drink because it is sweet and different.
Made with advocaat which contains egg and tastes similar to eggnog.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Bikini for brunch

Loyal Dining (Central)

I was surprised they had the Bikini for Brunch.
It was one of the three options to choose from.

The other two were rather Chinesey so I just picked the Bikini which was ham and cheese sandwich with black truffle.

For brunch, the toast was a bit weak, it was more like an afternoon tea set.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bikini:

The toast was heavily buttered which was not pleasant because they used Margerine.
Overall the toast was not that impressive because it had processed cheese inside and not natural cheese.
As for the potato salad on the side, it was local potatoes and canned fruit salad in sweet salad sauce so it was disgusting.

Lettuce that has gone off at Gourmet Express

Gourmet Express (Central)

I have always wanted to try this place because the spicy chicken and spicy tofu looked good.
They also have mini portions of rice and roast pork too.

The tofu was sold out, so I got the chicken.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spicy chicken:
The rice was cold and the spicy sauce was too spicy.
The chicken was skinny so it was mainly skin and bones!!

Lovely blackened lettuce NOT!

A good Salmon burger at TAKE Japanese Take-away Shop

TAKE Japanese Take-away Shop (Wan Chai)

I rarely walk down this road because there are too many pedestrians on this narrow pavement and it stinks of second hand smoke and fumes from heavy traffic going past made worse by traffic jams.

Anyway, I had to stop walking for a few seconds because of some slow walkers infront of me and discovered this tiny joint.

I only noticed it because of the burgers.

I was surprised to see that it was a small sushi joint doing burgers as well.

It was helpful they had English menus but not all the items are listed.

Anyway, ordered the salmon burger for $38 and I didn't realise it came with potato wedges.

There were three different salmon burgers:
-Seared salmon burger
-Spicy Salmon sashimi burger
-Salmon sashimi burger with a bamboo sauce.
{It seems to say bamboo sauce (juk-jeung) on the poster}

I opted for the seared salmon burger.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seared salmon burger:

The bun was really good, it was a fresh springy wheat bun with crushed oats and wheat on top.
It was much better than those lifeless plastic buns you get at other local places.

There was sliced cucumber in the burger which added to the refreshing taste but they were not sliced properly because the pieces were still attached to each other.
Beneath that, there were slices of seared salmon.
The salmon burger was amazing because the salmon was seared just right complemented by the cooling cucumber and wasabi mayonnaise.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Potato wedges:

The potato wedges were not memorable but the frying oil was fresh so the potato wedges tasted ok.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Previously I tried the salmon burger at MOS which was good but the second time I had it, the salmon was over cooked.

Peruvian food at Mayta Peruvian Kitchen & Pisco Bar

MAYTA Peruvian Kitchen & Pisco Bar (Central)

MAYTA Peruvian Kitchen & Pisco Bar
中環蘭桂坊15號協興大廈3樓
3/F, Grand Progress Building, 15 Lan Kwai Fong, Central
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/peruvian-food-e2331042

This is the only reason I like Hong Kong is that there are so many international restaurants nearby without needing to travel far!

Mayta has some quite nice Peruvian dishes which is why I have been there quite a few times.
Some of the dishes were quite chinese such as the rice pudding with red beans.
The soup was quite boring because it was mushroom soup, but the Peruvian corn was cool, they were like giant pieces of sweetcorn and were chewy and hard like purple sweetcorn.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pan Con Chicharron:

I was surprised they use the same Chinese steamed bun which is white.
The pan con chicharron had slices of crunchy pork belly, crispy purple sweet potato slices and tangy sauce which balanced the fatty pork and made it delicious.
After googling it, it appears that most places use normal buns and not these Chinese sweet buns that they sell in Little Bao and Bao Wow!

Openricer's from Asia UNITE!

OpenRice held the first-ever super reviewer campaign ─ “Be My Guest” in September 2013 across 8 countries and regions of China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

The 18 winners from the different countries were awarded a 3D2N trip to Hong Kong.

A special luncheon at YUE was held by OpenRice Hong Kong headquarters for those 18 winners which 4 local Elite and Professional ranking OpenRicers attended.

As a BBC, I was really lucky to represent Hong Kong and attend this fun luncheon and meet Openricers from Asia.

I finally got to try the award winning three layered steamed egg!!!
It was delicate layers of spinach egg whites, plain egg whites and carrot egg whites topped with seared Star Garoupa Fillet and Truffle Sauce.

It was stunning and delicious!
After the luncheon, we were all transported to the wine and dine 2013 event.
