Roast pork mania at 旺豐美食

旺豐美食 (Wan Chai)

To be honest, their daily specials from the kitchen suck and in general the food is too salty!

It is a grubby restaurant and you can normally get seated quite quickly because there is no queue.

The simple items at this place taste better.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast pork with rice:

As you can see, the roast pork was evenly sliced, it was tender and moist.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast pork chow mein:

This was also delicious because of the roast pork.
The spring onions, onions and beanshoots enhanced the taste by making it more aromatic.
Again it would have been perfect if it was not so salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crispy roast pork:

Not really my cup of tea, but I liked the crispy skin only.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Egg and spam:

The eggs were done so nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast pork macaroni:

Again the broth was too salty, but the macaroni was the best I have had because it was al-dente and tasty.
The broth was clear without any oil poured over it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Interesting finds:

When I left the place, it was interesting to see a bowl of water with loose change in it.

Earl grey tea jelly

After dining at Rosie Jeans's Cafe with <<IVY>>, went past Filter's Lane.

Initially I was not going to go in and have a look because I don't drink coffee but went in anyway since I was already on Caine Road.

Discovered that they serve Whittard tea as well and they also sell teaware.

Surprisingly, they had Earl grey jelly so I had that.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl grey jelly:

The tea jelly was great, the texture was just like normal jelly that you get in the UK.
It had a fragrant earl grey taste and it had a hint of sweetness which was great and did not ruin it.
On top of the jelly was delicious cream, mango puree and lemon peel.
I did not like the mango because I don't eat mango.

The new stars at Yonge Piggies: milkshakes and burritos

Found out recently that they have added burritos and milkshakes to the menu so went there to try them.

The milkshakes that they do are:
CHOCOLATE
VANILLA
BLUEBERRY
STRAWBERRY
CANADIAN MAPLE
PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE
CHOCOLATE BACON
EARL GREY
SEA SALT CARAMEL

They used to have MARSHMALLOW and MYSTERY (mixed flavour) milkshake as well.

If you are missing FOODJUNKIES lobster rolls, they serve that here too for $140.

The decor has not changed since my last visit.

Here was what I tried:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet potato fries:

They were the same as the ones at Heirloom but saltier and were fried too long.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef burrito bowl :
The chicken was sold out so had to get the beef.
The beef was so chewy that I didn't eat it and I was not the only one complaining according to mjhk's review.
I found the rice oily and tasteless too.
Quoted from mjhk's review:
"The first was very chewy, quite poor quality meat....The rice is oddly yellow in color and tastes of tumeric and not much else."

I liked their refried beans, sour cream and the usual stuff but they don't give you much here.
Normal burritos don't have olives but they allow you to pick anything from their condiments section which is why your seeing them.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Came here twice for milkshake and I believe the lady usually makes them because the guy wasnt sure and the ones he made were sweeter.
Quoted from mjhk's review:
It was clear that the people working the counter were googling "how to make a milkshake."

They make all their milkshakes with icecream.

Sea salt caramel:

This was made by the guy and it was too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl grey :

This was the only one I liked because it had a really strong earl grey taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chocolate and bacon:

The chocolate and bacon was very disappointing because it was just blended chocolate icecream so it was a waste of $40 on blended chocolate icecream which you can get at 7-11.
Although there were pieces of crispy bacon but that was expected because it is a milkshake with bacon!!

Finally tried 3.6.9. Restaurant Shanghai Food

3.6.9. Restaurant Shanghai Food (Wan Chai)

This restaurant is quite historic in Wan Chai because it has been here for ages.
The decor is old and they use red tablecloths.

As you can see the menu is all in Chinese which was why I didn't try this place earlier and the restaurant seems busy all the time and the waiters are rushed.

Dined there when it was empty and the waitress was patient and helpful.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Noodles:

I loved the broth which was clear chicken soup, it was loaded with lots of prawns, chicken, thick cut ham and spring onions.
Unfortunately I did not like the type of noodles they served because it was similar to ramen.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tea:
Every person who sits down will be given a cup of tea which is compulsory and costs $3.
Luckily the tea was hot and it had a fragrant Jasmine taste otherwise it would have been a waste of money.

Lunch buffet at O'Phillie's

O'Phillie's irish restaurant & pub (Wan Chai)
Tried this restaurant ages ago but didn't get motivation to write it up until now because someone has already reviewed it.

They probably don't have the buffet for lunch anymore because they said they would be serving the Irish carvery instead which would make them another competitor because Delaney's in Wan Chai also does good roasts.

I have also tried their brunch sets too, so there will be another review coming up.

On this visit, I had the salad buffet which included tea.

The food varied from pasta, rice, meats but half of it wasn't really Irish food.

Here was what I had:

The pasta was good and my favourite was the broccoli and cauliflower in cream sauce, roast potatoes and gammon ham.

Food glorious British food!!

Shortbread Teas (Central)

I am always here for food because I can't get enough of it.
It really pisses me off for the week if I don't get my weekly dose from here!!

Got some tea from the tea sale which I never made, but now I have a lovely tea strainer so I've got no excuse!~!

Anyway, heres a collection of the yummy food I usually have.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Egg and mayonnaise sandwich:

Although this is a simple sandwich that anyone can make, I just love it because it is filled with delicious egg and mayonnaise with a hint of parsley.
Normally, it would have garden cress but you can't get that in Hong Kong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Valentine's special:

Delicious cake with icing, but their homemade chocolate really surprised me~~~~
Their homemade chocolates taste better than Royce and they melt in your mouth!~!
I really regretted not buying more because I loved the alcoholic taste in it as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Blueberry and white chocolate cake:

This was one of their weekly specials with creamy chunks of white chocolate in the cake and lovely chewy blueberries.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ham, apple and cheese baguette:

This is another one of my favourites because apple, cheese and ham go great together and the ham that they use is not too salty and it is nice and tender.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple pie:

This is another must eat item when they have it because it is baked with huge pieces of apple which are tart and crisp complemented by the perfectly delicious buttery pastry sprinkled with powdered sugar.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

More sweet treats from Marks & Spencer

Just felt like some dessert so went to Marks and Spencers for some yoghurt and ended up buying other items as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry fruit fool:

I always had this as a kid but I never really looked at the label to see what it was made of.
Basically the strawberry fruit fool is Strawberries mixed with whipped cream.
It has a lovely light whipped texture with a natural strawberry taste, great on a summers day.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cider fizz with a hint of spice:
Cider cocktail flavoured with nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves.

I don't drink, but this tasted really nice.
It tastes just as good as appletiser (formerly known as appletise in the early 1980s) but it has a sweeter taste with fragrant spices from the nutmeg and cinnamon.
I wouldn't mind drinking this again because the alcohol volume is quite low.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salted caramel & Hazelnut Luxury yoghurt:

I couldn't quite taste the salted caramel, but I loved it because it was thick and it had a lot of crushed nuts in it with the usual tartness of yoghurt.
