Le French GourMAY at O delice!

My favourite month of May again because restaurants will promote French food and special French dishes that are not normally served.
They should have a month for British food and other countries as well, but French is good because there is cheese.

I went to O delice! again because I love duck and good cheese so I had the special menu that was on for Le French GourMAY.
Too bad Charlies next door has packed up because I love their crispy duck and UK style comfort Chinese food.

All the items are from Midi Pyrenees in the South of France.

When you wait for the food, you can see the crepes being made with the slanted mirror by the kitchen.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl grey tea by teapigs:

Started off with earl grey tea that had a strong leafy taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Smoked duck galette:
This was served with carmelized onions, a dash of curry powder, cherry tomatoes and rocket.

It was absolutely delicious because the crepe was evenly filled with cheese that was savoury with delicious onions on top with a hint of curry.
The crepe was light and crispy.

The duck was wonderful because it is different, it was dark in colour and the texture and taste was like a duck version of parma ham and the rocket leaves help balance the heaviness with its bitterness.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cold cut and Cheese platter:
The cheese platter is served after 5pm.
Here are the items in the platter.

A salty and waxy saucisson which tastes a little bit like the snack called pepperami.

Bread for the pork terrine.

Cows cheese and Sheeps cheese.
The cows cheese was light and soft and the sheeps cheese was surprisingly mild.

Pork and mushroom terrine.
I really liked this one because it had an equal balance or pork, mushrooms and it was not that fat.

Bayonne ham which was waxy and not too salty.

Guerkins and fig jam which were really good condiments with the platter.

Indian curry night with live music [Gaylord Indian Restaurant]

Indian curry is a meal that I must have each week but there are not many good ones on the kowloon side because most of it is localized.
After trying Gaylord, it is another curry haunt. They have been in HK for decades, they used to be in Central but now they are in TST.
There was live Indian music too which is good, and sounds better than Chinese opera whcih sounds like cats screeching.
We had an Indian feast that night and here was what we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Vegetable samosas:

Inside these crispy pyramid morsels were fluffy mashed potatoes and peas, there were soft cashew nuts too.
The spiciness was light, which made it a good warm up before the spicy dishes ahead.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Sev Poori:

These were crispy bites that were appetizing drizzled with tamarind sauce, yoghurt and mint sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Paneer Tikka lajawab:

Indian cheese is different because it does not melt or smell and has a rubbery texture with a mild taste.
I liked the way it was smothered in mustard because the mustard made the cheese tasty and moreish.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Tandoori jumbo prawns:

The prawns were huge and springy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Lamb seekh kebab:

These kebabs were juicy with a strong cumin taste and other aromatic spices which was delicious with the mint sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Saag paneer:

One of my favourite curries of spinach and cheese, a light non spicy dish that is great with rice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Dal Makhani:

Another good vegetarian dish of lentils and kidney beans that is recommended for vegetarians and it is also non spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Baingan Bharta:

As well as the saag paneer, this vegetarian curry was tasty because it has a strong tomato taste and pureed aubergines.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Saffron rice:

Fluffy rice is a must with curries!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
naan with cheese:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Assorted naan:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Since the curries were quite good I think I will be back for the lunch buffets during the weekends.

Purple potato smoothie [Banh Mi Bakery]

I know this place specializes in Vietnamese fare but I was there for the sweet purple potato ice slush and the avocado ice slush.
There was only sweet potato ice slush available when I got there which was good because I couldn’t have decided between the avocado and the sweet potato anyway.
Apart from Vietnamese food, it was great that they had quiches as well.
The décor was really nice and relaxed with Western elements.
From the outside, it looks like a wild western cowboy restaurant because of the wooden background and white letterings.
Ordered the slush, mushroom quiche and a Vietnamese baguette so that I could compare it to other places.
The food took quite a while to come. Normally I am not bothered but there happened to be crying babies nearby which made want to leave ASAP!
Food is expensive and there is a 10% as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vietnamese baguette:

Frankly this was over priced.
The pate was spread thinly on the baguette and the Vietnamese sausage slices were at most 3mm thick and the baguette was a bit burnt on the top.

The pickles were not pickled enough and I found them sweet.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom quiche:

The crust was too buttery but the filling was nice and cheesy with a few thin slices of mushrooms.
I don’t think the quiche is made by them but sourced from some suppliers.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
sweet potato ice slush:

The ice slush was quite nice on a hot day with a nice sweet potato taste that is evidently made with sweet potato flavouring but at least it tasted natrual.

Stacks of Taste ]Jaspas Restaurant]

Went here for brunch and had the stacks of tastes which wasn't really stacked with taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stacks of Taste:
This was toasted sour dough topped with Honey Cured Bacon, Poached Eggs, Tomato & Spinach served with Tarragon Hollandaise
The breakfast could have been tastier because the honey cured bacon was a bit boring and the poached eggs were just average.

MeokBang in Kowloon City

Times have changed, Kowloon City is no longer a town for farewells and gatherings because the airport has moved to Lantau.
Kowloon city used to be famous for Thai and Chiu chow cuisine but there is more variety of cuisines and dessert shops now.
Now there is Korean food too! A big Korean chain that has so many branches with new branches in Wan Chai and Kowloon city.

Went to Meokbang again because they had new dishes and desserts..

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tried the Kimchi and Beef fried rice which is rice surrounded by raw beaten egg and cheese!!!
The rice is mixed with the cheese and egg and gradually turns into fried rice because the plate is so hot.

I love the fried rice because each grain of rice is covered in egg and rice after it is mixed.
Every mouthful was delicious because it was cheesy and eggy with a fiery kick from the kimchi.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Oysters:

Grilled oysters were a treat because you can taste it in its most natrual form.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled mackerel

The mackerel was silky and soft.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Marinated squid

The squid was springy with a strong spicy taste after it had been cooked.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
For desserts, there are two new ones, the oreo snow ice and the oreo chocolate snow ice.

They come with sweetened condensed milk but I never use it because the dessert is sweet enough with the other items in the bowl.
The new chocolate snow ice was really nice because there were brownies, chocolate coated glico sticks and an oreo on top to garnish.
It was lovely how the cocoa powder flavoured the snow ice making it taste chocolatey without being too powdery.

The menu at Jollibee has changed

Went here in the evening because there were less people.
[I liked the way the staff was siting behind the wall so the manager couldn't see her skive!!]

To my dismay, there were quite a few items that were gone such as the bangus with rice, palabok noodles and the noodle soup.

The menu was pretty basic and just had fried chicken, spaghetti, hotdogs and the pie.
In the end I got the chicken, creamy macaroni, mango peach pie and hot chocolate.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken joy:

The chicken was very oily but at least it wasn’t shriveled up.
I was given lots of napkins so I was able to blot of the excess oils.
As for the chicken it was a bit too dry but there was gravy which was a bit too salty.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
creamy macaroni:

The creamy macaroni was really nice, it was ribbed macaroni in thick soup that tasted like instant chicken soup but the soup was a little salty though.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
mango peach pie:

I got this for fun and the size of the pie was just bigger than a sachet of sugar shown on the picture.

A guilt free snack because of its size but the price of it is the same as McDonalds!!
It was quite sweet with soft chunks of mango and peach.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
hot chocolate:

I tried the chocolate before the pie and it was really sweet, after having the pie, the drink was no longer sweet.
The chocolate was quite nice because I did not stir it so it tasted watery with a chocolatey taste but after I mixed it, I didn’t like it because it tasted powdery.
