Back for more delicious nougat

ABC Bakery (Central)

Thanks to Mjqueen7e or I would not have known about these gorgeous nougats.

I was nearby so got a box.

They also had these cute swan choux puffs which I did not try them.

Nougats:

The nougats were so nice and addictive that I could not stop eating them.
The sweetness was just right and it tastes like a satisfying SNICKERs bar without the chocolate and caramel.
Each nougat is wrapped in edible rice paper and crammed with tons of peanuts.

Vieil homme chinois aime le poulet rôti

La Rotisserie (Wan Chai)

Just as much as I love Roast chicken! I discovered that OLD Chinese men love it too!
When I was at the Sai ying pun branch of La Rotisserie, an old man got his roast chicken.

At the new branch in Wan Chai, there was another old man getting roast Chicken.

The layout of the Wan Chai and Sai Ying Pun branch are pretty much the same, selling pates, candies but there is a bar table at the Wan Chai branch.

I went there during the first few days it opened because they were doing a lunch deal for $50.

It was so crowded on the first day that I gave up getting some chicken.

I sneaked out earlier on the second day before the crowd and got my chicken fast.
As well as that, I tried the croque poulet and forgot to take a photo of the actual thing.
The knife and fork they give you is decent and rigid so you can eat your chicken properly.
I went to this other roast chicken place and they gave me weak plastic cutlery which snapped half way through (GREAT!).

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast chicken and potatoes:

Delicious juicy chicken with rosemary herbs.
Tried the the thigh part and the white meat which were great and fully flavoured right through.
There was lots of chicken juice in the box too which tasted great with the potatoes.
The potatoes were soft on the inside with a delicious chewy skin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Croque poulet:

The croque poulet is basically the same as the croque monsieur but it has chicken in it which is why it is called poulet.
It was a bit too buttery and the chicken sauce was a bit too creamy but the onions in it balanced it out nicely.

On my next visit, I will get my favourite quiches and lemon tarts.

Dark chocolate bar with raspberries

agnès b. DÉLICES (Causeway Bay)

Thanks to Gary for getting me these chocolates.

As well as the chocolate, I really liked the packaging.
It was bright red with a gold bunny on it.

The chocolate inside the box was impressive because it had four bars inside, each individually wrapped for convenience.

The dark chocolate was really nice with crispy raspberry candies in it.
It was a nice combination of dark chocolate and tart raspberries which were not too sweet.

Kurotaki set lunches

Kurotaki (Causeway Bay)

This place is only good for their soba which is why I went there again.

I got lunch set which had tempura, sushi, steamed egg and soba noodles.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lunch set:
The sushi was how it should be, there was nothing spectacular about it.

The tempura fared better, the coating was light and crispy.

The steamed egg was a bit too salty.

The soba noodles were the best, chilled noodles dipped in delicious soba broth.

Next time I will just get the plain soba noodles or the soup ones.

More food from the Tuck Shop

It's a Tuck Shop (Wan Chai)
Came here a year ago and since then the choices have improved.
They sell more tuck shop items and stationary goods.

Although there are more choices, the menu is quite confusing so do not trust the product photos.

Some of the items that they serve are from IKEA and obviously cost more here because he has to cook it for you without making a loss too!

The hamburger and vegetable hash brown were cooked on the pan and it was very impressive that he washed the pan and wiped it dry before cooking the next item so it did not cross contaminate each other or leave a rancid taste on the next item to be cooked.
It was good that he cooked the hamburger patty and potato hash brown separately instead of being lazy and cooking both on the pan at the same time.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hamburger:

The bun was nice and the same as the bun used for hamburgers at McDonalds, however the patty was not beef and tasted like the sausage patty in the sausage muffin served at McDonalds.

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vegetable hash brown:

This is basically the vegetable medallion from IKEA and it tastes better here because it is cooked so that there is a crispy surface.
It was slightly cheesy loaded with potatoes and brocoli.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Meatballs:

It was literally meatballs in a pot of tomato ketchup.
The meatballs were quite nice, they were soft and did not contain any gristle in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Peach tea:
There were a choice of Lemon or Peach tea.
The teas were obviously the Nestle brand.

A fishy selection at CEO

CEO Neway (Causeway Bay)
At CEO, they usually have a good buffet selection.

On the day I went, there was so much fish in the buffet selection but some smelt a bit fishy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salmon and grilled mackerel

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed fish, whelks (bit too spicy).

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The Duck in pita bread was actually really nice because the pita bread made it more substantial and the sauces, cucumber and spring onions paired it nicely.
The Thai salad was good too, but again too spicy.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
As well as that, there were huge clams, but they had some sand in them.
Then there was German pork knuckles, escargots and mash too.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
There was also foie gras but it was a bit too oily, and they had colourful macarons too but the taste of the macarons were too buttery for my liking because they put butter in it.

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The food is ok, but sometimes the plates are sticky, so bare that in mind when you get a fresh plate.

Mandarin cake shop mooncakes 2013

The Mandarin Cake Shop (Central)

Got these mooncakes from a friend.

It had a matching bag and box.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mooncakes:
Each mooncake was individually wrapped and boxed.

On each of the mooncakes, there was a Mandarin logo.

The mooncakes gave a clear cut and the pastry held together, but the taste was a bit sugary and the pastry was very oily that I needed to blot the oils away.
