At Sushi Take Out, you will sometimes find interesting items.
Last time I tried delicious rainbow trout sushi and milk pudding:
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=2263778
This time I found some Grilled eel livers!!!
At restaurants they would cost you at least $30 for two skewers but here I got a box of three skewers for $9, but at the normal price $12 it is still cheap...
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled eel livers:
They looked raw but they have been grilled.
The eel livers were covered in lots of teriyaki sauce that it got a bit sticky, there was an extra tub which I did not use.
The liver tasted sweet, bitter and it was velvety, but there were some chewy bits which I did not like and those chewy bits tasted like intestines.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tuna sushi:
The tuna was soft and fresh.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seared scallop:
Not quite sure what these were because they looked like scallops, but the staff said they were "yuenbui".
Anyway, because it was grilled the scallops had a stronger taste than the raw state, but it was slightly chewy.

Summer with horse mackerel
Thanks to the communications team for inviting me to the tasting at Sen-ryo.
The theme was Horse Mackerel.
Here was what we tried:
The theme was Horse Mackerel.
Here was what we tried:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bonito Salad:
The skipjack tuna was interesting because you could see the lovely dark black skin.
It had a quite a strong taste for sashimi which was complimented by the delicious tangy dressing on the salad and crushed hazelnuts.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sashimi: Striped horse mackerel selection:
There were three cuts, thinly sliced, belly cut and back cut.
Personally I felt that the taste of this was lighter than the tuna above, and I liked the thinly sliced one because it was light, and the other two cuts were slighty fattier in texture but when it was complimented with wasabi and soy sauce, it was perfect.
The thinly sliced cut also had delicious grated radish puree on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Horse mackerel trio:
This was fun for the tastebuds too especially the spoon with diced horse mackerel and ginger, the ginger and horse mackerel worked well together.
My second favourite was the thinly sliced horse mackerel with yuzu jelly and garlic which worked wonders.
The last one with the criss cross patterns it tasted nicer than it looked because there was a strong taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled salted horse mackerel:
The horse mackerel was grilled to perfection with delicious soft silky fish meat inside.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sushi:There was so much sea urchin on this sushi and it was just fabulous and creamy.
The seared flounder fish edge was also delicious because the texture of it was light.
As for the the horse mackerel and striped horse mackerel, the mackerel itself was fresh so it only needed light soy sauce to complement it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried items:
There was oyster cutlet, squidcake and conger eel tempura.
The oyster was the best and the oyster inside was huge and juicy!!!!
The eel was soft as cotton and melts in your mouth with a delicious taste.
As for the squidcake I wish it had stronger squid taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Miso soup:
I loved the clams in the miso soup because it had a really strong taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Back for my favorite green tea tiramisu
Restaurant: Maccha House (Diamond Hill)
Came back for more Maccha desserts because I did not get to try them all last time.
Maccha House has been opened for quite a few months so operations are going smooth.
On this visit, I still could not try the Maccha brulee because when it arrived, it was still frozen
I wish they could improve on that because on my first visit, the Maccha brulee was frozen rock hard!
On this visit, it was also rock hard.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tuna Ochazuke:
The rice is covered with tuna sashimi served with a pot of Ochazuke.
In Kyoto, ochazuke is known as bubuzuke. When a Kyoto native asks if a guest wants to eat bubuzuke, it may really mean that the person has overstayed and is being politely asked to leave.
After the ochazuke was poured onto the rice, the rice softened up a bit and warmed up, but the ochazuke was not hot enough.
There were also pickles and wasabi to enhance the tuna.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Curry chicken with spinach and egg rice:
This was also delicious but if you plan to have desserts do not order it because it is quite filling.
I liked the steepness of the bowl because the curry sauce gets concentrated at the bottom so there is enough curry sauce throughout.
There was too much excitement in this dish because there was egg, chicken and spinach.
The egg was scrambled really nicely, soft and fragrant, and tasted delicious with the spinach.
On top of that there was chicken that is bound to make you really full and the curry sauce was delicious but slightly spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:
The soup was plain vegetable soup with a light flavour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green Tea tiramisu:
When it arrived the top layer was quite runny which was interesting but it turned out to be really creamy.
Every part of the maccha tiramisu was delicious from the sponge combined with the creamyness of the dessert followed by the freshness of the green tea powder.

Fish burger at Burger King
Not a beef eater so did not try the Angus BOMB.
Ordered the fish burger instead.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish burger:
A whole slice of cheese is given at BK, at McDs you only get half.
The fish burger was quite nice, but the bun was not soft enough.
The fish burger coating was quite hard but the fish inside is really soft, so after you take a bite, it does not hold together well.
The taste of the burger is saltier than McD's but the fish is softer and wet.

A quiet time at Poets
When I saw the name of this place on OpenRice, I did not expect it to be a pub because the name Poets is more like a Cafe or classy restaurant.
Anyway, decided to go in and try their pies because of ChanJan's review.
When I got there, it was quiet and clean inside.
The waitress had disappeared somewhere so I had to wait for a bit.
When she came back I asked her what the daily pie was and she said it was steak and kidney so I ordered it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steak and kidney pie:
When it arrived, it looked like a Mexican bun.
Inside the pie, there was lots of succulent pieces of beef and gravy.
The pie was piping hot but the centre of the filling was still icy.
Since I do not really eat beef I was too lazy to complain.
But the rest of the pie and gravy was delicious because the gravy was really rich and you could taste fine bits of kidney and liver.
The pastry was really really flakey just like a vol u vont.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pickled egg:
The pickled egg was pickled right through to the yolk, the yolk was quite vinegary too.
The size of the yolk was big too compared to other eggs, there was not much egg white as I hoped.
The egg white was really nice because it was really sour and the pickled yolk was really silky.

Japanese Genmai tea @ Pacific Coffee Company
Shop: Pacific Coffee Company
Only stopped by for some tea because I was waiting for something.
Tried the Japanese Genmai tea.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese Genmai tea:
The tea was really hot so had to wait a while before I could drink it.
The staff were quite helpful because there were empty cups on the table when I sat down and they cleared it away.
When the tea cooled down I could taste toasted rice in the tea.
The genmai tea was quite nice but the toasted rice taste makes you feel full after drinking it.

Icecream @ Tezukuri
Shop: Tezukuri No Mise (Tseung Kwan O)
This brand of icecream has been in Hong Kong for ages but it never appealed to me because I did not like the logo and design of the shop.
Although it seems to be Japanese, it does not seem very Japanese at all.
It costs $9 per scoop or you can upgrade it for $1 and get a bigger scoop.
There were quite a lot of flavours and they had English labelling too, each flavour has some weird Japanese English to it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mint chocolate icecream:
The taste of the mint chocolate was quite likeable, it was thick and milky.
The mint and chocolate flavour was not as strong as Walls or Haagen Daaz.
The texture of this icecream is very coarse and contains a lot of icy particles but for that price I do not expect it to be luxurious, but a good choice for parents to satisying their kids who are screaming for icecream.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet potato icecream:I wish I tried this first because I did not like it.
The sweet potato tastes like Playdoh!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taro icecream:The taro taste was quite nice but not as nice as the local Dairy brand because it was too sweet and tasted muddy.
