Giant sized mexican bun @ BreadTalk

BreadTalk (Tseung Kwan O)

I like BreadTalk because every now and then they will have some interesting cakes and buns.

This time I saw this HUGE mexican bun, the diameter was bigger than a piece of normal sized square toast in the picture.

It was pandan and raisin flavoured so I got it.

Pandan raisin:
The surface of that bun was quite greasy and had a strong buttery smell.
It was green inside and the sweetness was mostly from the raisins and the crispy topping on top.
I thought it was fun to put bun against this big baby doll.

To be honest I can't stand baby dolls but this was an oversized one and its head is the size of a watermelon,
the doll beneath its hand is also an oversized doll too.
Its hand is slightly bigger than my clenched fist and its wrist is bigger than mine too.

Tom yum soup with Cambodian noodles

Cambo (San Po Kong)
As there are not much food choices at Mikiki I came here for some simple noodles.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tom yum soup with Cambodian noodles:

The noodles were likable and tasted better than I expected.
The broth had a strong tomato taste and it was not very spicy.
However the prawns could have been fresher.

Lucullus palmiers

Lucullus Gourmet Shop (Kowloon Bay)
Thank you Garycwm for getting me these Palmiers from Lucullus Gourmet Shop.

I did not know what they were at first but when I opened them the box was filled with lots of Palmiers.

The palmers had so many layers and were very delicate and crispy.

The taste of butter was light and it was coated with sweet sugar so it was delicious.

Pandan chinese glutinous tea cake

Macau Soya Bean (Wan Chai)

Every now and then, this soya joint will have Pandan flavoured items.

This time they had Pandan flavoured glutinous tea cakes steamed on lotus leaves (cha gwores).
They were $4 each so I tried one.
There was not much Pandan taste, and it was really sweet a well.
It was filled with sesame, peanuts and yellow sugar.

The lotus leaf taste was much stronger than anything else because the tea cake absorbed the scent while it was being steamed.

Delicious pumpkin seed and almond danish

Luba's Bakery (North Point)

Thank you Mjqueen7e for getting me this delicious danish which looks like a croissant.

I have attempted to go to Luba's before but most of the bakeries were sold out.

It is actually a pumpkin seed and almond danish and it smells really nice just like WESTERN breads especially that yeasty smell.
There are pumpkin seeds and almonds on top of the danish, the smaller green coloured ones with orange seed inside are pumpkin seeds and the others are obviously almonds which are dusted with castor sugar so it is hard to see.

The danish was just bliss because the custard in the middle was light and not too sweet and it tasted delicious with generous amounts of almonds and pumpkin seeds on top which were crisp.

The pumpkin seeds have a distinct taste which is nutty and savoury.

Delicious pork cutlets from Ca-Tu-Ya

Ca-Tu-Ya (Kowloon Bay)

Ca-Tu-Ya is a chain restaurant from Japan where there are more than 210 branches.

They are a fast food restaurant similar to Yoshinoya but serving different foods.

Basically the famous items here are pork cutlets which are coated in their specially selected breadcrumbs.
The breadcrumbs are coarse so that the breadcrumb coating does not retain oil and does not taste oily.
There are two types of pork cutlet: pork filet and pork cutlet.
As well as pork they now serve deep fried chicken cutlet and prawn.
The deep fried items come with cabbage, rice and soup, they also have sets with curry sauce or tonkatsu sauce, and then there is a scrambled egg set too.
If you have ordered the set without sauce and feel that it is a bit dry, there are plenty of other sauces on the table such as mustard, sesame sauce and pork chop sauce which also taste great too.

The sets come in different sizes which I though were choice of sauces because in Japanese it said bamboo or plum.
The pork is served in grams too stated on the menu.

Grape soda:
Delicious grape soda.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Miso and vegetable soup:

The soup was made with a mix of white miso and red miso which gave it a balanced taste.

There were lots of vegetables and spring onions which enhanced the taste and there was tender slices of pork in it.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried prawns set:

A generous portion with five prawns!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried chicken cutlet bowl with special tonkatsu sauce:

The chicken was delicious but I wish there was more tonkatsu sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried chicken with curry sauce:

chicken cutlet
The curry sauce was delicious and sufficient which made the chicken and rice a perfect match.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried pork cutlet set:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried pork cutlet and prawn set:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried pork filet set:
Most of the people at the tasting preferred the pork cutlet, but I felt that the filet tasted better in terms of texture and flavour.

I liked the thinness of the pork because it was similar to an escalope.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried pork cutlet bowl with scrambled egg:

The rice beneath was nice and moist but the pork cutlet was a bit too thick.

There could have been more egg.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
If Kowloon Bay is too far for you!
A new Ca-Tu-Ya branch is going to open in Mong Kok soon near the aquarium market!

Fresh and gourmet seafood @ ANA Oyster & Grill

ANA Oyster & Grill (Causeway Bay)

Came here to celebrate a fellow foodies birthday so we had a nice private room.
While we were there, there was some guy proposing to his girlfriend.
Anyway that night it was courses of seafood followed by seafood, I have never eaten so much seafood in one meal before.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Oysters:

First started off with oysters. There were four different types and started from the right hand side because the taste gets stronger as you progress from the different types of oysters.
They were still in the natrual brine so you could taste the saltiness of the sea water.
I did not use any lemon or seasoning because I wanted to see what it tastes like without.
The sea water was quite salty, so it did affect the taste a bit but they were delicious.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
South African abalone:

The abalones were HUGE!!! They were so big that you can see and feel the tentacles.
The sauce they used was a bit sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scallops:

These scallops were huge as well, the diameter was about the same size as a lemon sliced in half!!!
The scallops were fresh and sweet so I ate it without seasoning.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crabmeat salad with fish roe:

The black fish roe on top fooled everyone, it was not caviar but black coloured fish roe.

The roe and crab were delicious and the crabmeat beneath was nice and creamy and paired nicely with the garlic bread.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
White radish soup with oysters/白蘿蔔蠔湯:When I saw this on the menu I though it was Chinese but it was actually Western soup which was a good surprise!!

It was sweet and the oyster in the soup was a perfect match.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled scallops:
This was delicious!! It did not have that charred taste and the roe part tasted so nice after it had been grilled.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Razor clams:
Never seen these before in Europe so they looked a bit weird, anyway, they tasted ok but there were some sand in them.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Meat on the bone:
I was surprised they had this here too after trying it at World Steik meats.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sorbet:
The sorbet we had was mixed berries and it was really refreshing to finish with.

I read their previous reviews and they had Lemon and Rocket lettuce sorbet /檸檬火箭菜雪葩 which looks delicious and creative.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
There were lots of other delicious dishes we had that night, but the best ones are shown above which is quite a feast already because that was not even half the stuff we had!!!
