Tasting at AHU

AHU (Tin Hau)
Honestly if they had not rebranded this noodle place I would not have bothered trying it because I have do not like Hunnan style noodles unless it is the buccatini type.

The logo stood out from across the road! It looked like there was an English word that spelt BOHITA in the logo but it was actually Chinese.

Inside the restaurant, it is brightly decorated with a yellow and black theme.

They had spices on the wall for display.

The choice of broths for the noodles was good too, there were five choices: Vegetarian, tomato, laksa, preserved eggs and spicy broth.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dumplings:

According to the picture, they look panfried but when they came, the dumplings were deepfried.
I felt that they tasted nice deepfried because the dumpling skin is crispy and thinner complemented by the pork and leek fillings.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Instant noodles in Laksa broth:
The noodles were the best because you could choose instant noodles.
The instant noodles were slightly thinner compared to other brands and it reminded of the "CHEWY" (chiu lik) brand.
As for the broth, it was not that spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried pork knuckles:

The pork knuckles could have been better because it seems that the pork knuckles were not that fresh because they have been in the fridge for too long that they were dehydrated. Hence the pork knuckles were too chewy, elastic and sticky.

Taiwanese noodles in a metal bowl @ Woo Lung Yuen

Woo Lung Yuen (Tin Hau)
Came here again because the place I wanted to go was closed.

They had new black ink squid balls so tried that.

The waitress stood by my table as soon as I sat down.
I felt that the waitress was rather pushy because I needed time to look at the menu and decide what to order!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Squid ink balls and noodles in a metal bowl:

The noodles were better this time and not so rancid but the portion was really small I had to order another dish of noodles.
The squid ink balls were tastess and similar to eating rubber.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taiwanese style stir-fried vermicelli:
Basically it was the usual stir-fried vermicelli topped with Taiwanese style minced meat which makes it Taiwanese style.
The taste was ok mixed with the meat sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green tea:The set came with a drink but it was too sweet so next time I will order the food a la carte.

Chips with Edmond Fallot mustard sauce

Chip In Fish & Chips (Sai Kung)
I was back again for my favourite chips.

This time I had a jar of mustard which was given to me by La Rotisserie at the tasting.
Initially I planned to use the mustard on the roast chicken at Cheeky Chicken, but it packed up so suddenly.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chips:

As usual, the chips were perfectly fried and I put plenty of vinegar on it which makes them extremely appetizing.
After having a few, I used the Edmond Fallot mustard on the chips.
It was surprisingly quite good because the mustard had a slightly tart taste and did not have that powerful mustard sting to it.
Edmond Fallot's mustard sauce on chips is definitely good.

Almond tart @ IKEA FiKET

IKEA FiKET (Kowloon Bay)
After dining at IKEA decided to try this place as well.

They serve light snacks and drinks at FiKET.
They had meatball burgers and cute bottles of soy milk.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Almond tart:
The almond tart was nice and nutty with lots of almond sprinkled on top.
It was not too sweet but the almond taste was not strong enough.

$100 shopping spree at IKEA

IKEA Café (Kowloon Bay)
Thanks to Megabox promotions for this $100 cash coupon that I got from the Ramen Champion tasting event.

I spent it immediately that night

I got three items and it was exactly $100

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rosti:This was basically coarsely grated potato shaped like a patty and frozen.
After it was cooked there was a nice crisp texture and the rosti had a nice potato taste similar to hash browns.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crab spread (Pastej krabbe):The crab spread was contained in this huge tube.

The crab spread had a pinkish colour with lots of herbs
It was quite salty and had a strong dill taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tarta Chokladkrokant:
They also have at the cafe, but it does not have cream on top.

The packaging is idiot proof and gives information on the number of servings and that it is a frozen product.

The cake is best cut when it is frozen because the cream is hard.

The pie was delicious with generous pieces of nuts in it.
It was not too sweet and the cream, chocolate and tart base tasted great together.

Still needs improving a year later @ Kung Fu Dim Sum

Kung Fu Dim Sum (North Point)
Since my last visit in September I never intended to go to Kung Fu again until a recent tasting at the TST branch, the food was great there so I decided to come back for the food I tried at the TST branch.
Thinking it was the same group, the food would be the same, but the food was better at TST.
The fly that was there in September probably died because its lifespan is only a month, but on this visit, there was still a fly there, probably its nth generation

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Glutinous rice balls with pork:
They looked promising because the crust was not too yellow or brown.
The only problem was the glutinous exterior was really thick, it was at least 14mm thick just like a huge Chinese style sweet dumpling with savory filling.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken feet in abalone sauce:
The chicken feet were good if I have not tried them before, because at this branch it was slightly dry and stickier.
The peanuts were really nice though, they were soft and tasted like soy beans.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken and sliced abalone with red rice in lotus leaf:

The rice was quite good but the sliced abalone was quite dry and dehydrated.
It would have been helpful if they served it in a shallow dish because it was hard eating it from a plate without making a mess.
It should have been served in the same way as the TST branch.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Overall, I would recommend the TST branch if you want to try this place.

Boring sweet potato mochi snack @ Panash

Panash (Tseung Kwan O)
Initially came here to get the chocolate souffle but it was rock hard when I used the bread tongs to pick them up.

Got the mochi because it was Sweet potato flavoured.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet potato mochi snack:
The sweet potato mochi looked interesting so decided to get one.
Usually the flavours are chocolate, berries, cheese or plain.
I was puzzled why it was not called a pontikege because it was a pontikege and not a mochi.
There was no sweet potato taste or real sweet potato pieces in it which was disappointing.
It just tasted like the plain pontikege so why call it Sweet potato.
