Maxim's walnut cookies

Thanks to Gary for getting me these Walnut cookies.
Although I have called them walnut cookies, the Chinese seems to say walnut puffs.

The packaging of this is quite modern and looks like a bag of crisps.
Each cookie has a nice texture with buttery taste and crunchy pieces of walnut in it.

Back for UK style crispy roast duck

Charlie's Place (Wan Chai)
Back for more UK style crispy roast duck with their homemade pancakes.

Dumplings and noodles in tomato soup:

On the menu it is paired with Yunnan rice noodles, but it was really nice of them to let me have egg noodles instead, it was much nicer because the thin noodles had more broth hanging to it.
The tomato broth was quite thick and similar to runny tomato puree with a delicious sour taste that tomatoes should have.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crispy roast duck:

The duck was soft and supple and the skin was crispy and delicious.
I just wish that the cucumber pieces were julienne style.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:

Ginger taste was too strong.

Butadon pork bowl @ Dondonya Shokudo

Dondonya Shokudo (Diamond Hill)
Came here because of the new Butadon pork bowl.

It is basically slices of pork with sauce and some peas sprinkled on the top.

I called before I went just to check if it was still available and whether it was served all day.
The person who answered was extremely helpful and patient unlike some other restaurants.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tokachi Butadon:You can either choose 4 or 6 slices of pork.
I chose 4 slices.

The pork was nice and juicy and the sauce on it was slightly sweet and not too salty.
The green peas gave it a nice sweet kick.
I would prefer the pork to be leaner because it still had some fat attached and the amount of pork that I ate was equivalent to two slices and the fatty bits I did not eat.

Typhoon shelter style stir fried noodles

雅涴粉麵茶餐廳 (Tseung Kwan O)
Came here again to try their out of the world Chinese dishes, they come up with combinations that you would never think of.
On one of my visits I tried Deep fried salmon with fresh orange sauce which turned out to be quite nice.

This time on the menu I found stir fried noodles in typhoon shelter style with roast pork.

Stir fried noodles in typhoon shelter style with roast pork:
To be honest, I have only tried Typhoon shelter style crab once and it was crab surrounded in crispy bits and pieces.
There is some slight reminiscence with crispy pieces sprinkled on top which look like breadcrumbs.
There were beanshoots and black beans in the noodles which gave it an interesting pungent taste.
If the oil used was fresh or the wok did not have the so-called metallic Wok taste, it would be great.
Vermicelli was used in this dish because they ran out of fried flat rice noodles.

Green Tea mille feuille @ Spade by Lassana

Spade by Lassana (Mong Kok)
After my initial tasting, I found the food quite nice so came here again.

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Smoked salmon in squid ink bun:
This was simple and delicious, a crispy toasted squid ink bun filled with salmon and lettuce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl Grey:
They use Mighty Leaf tea bags which has a strong leafy taste.
The milk was frothed which made it quite fancy just like a cappuccino.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green Tea mille feuille:

According to Spade, they changed the recipe a few times.
The one I tried was really nice because it had hints of lemon which was slightly tart and refreshing and balanced the sweetness of the green tea filling.
Their initial batches were sweeter and did not contain lemon.

Sushi @ Hokkaido Katsu Sushi

Hokkaido Katsu Sushi (Tsuen Wan)
Came here after trying out Gu Fah Bakery.

The variety here was quite good but the taste was just average.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Natto beans maki roll:

The maki was quite nice and the natto beans had a slightly bitter taste with its usual slimy texture.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed egg with seafood:

Bit too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seared salmon sushi:

The salmon was fresh and seared just right but not very memorable.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seared fish with asparagus and teriyaki sauce:

I liked this because it had asparagus in the middle, but again the taste was not very memorable or overly delicious.

Roast pork pie, my new favourite @ Gu Fah Bakery

GU FAH BAKERY (Tsuen Wan)
Came here again and tried their new Roast pork pie.
They will be opening soon at iSquare for those who find Tsuen Wan inconvenient.

Tried the variety pack which comes in a luxurious red tin.

There is a nice assortment of almond pies and roast pork pies.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast pork pie:
This is made with oyster sauce by Lee Kam Kee and and the savouryness was really strong which was why I liked it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Almond pie:
This is a really nice snack that everyone is bound to like because it is flakey layers of pastry coated with a meringue like icing on top that is not too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
As well as traditional Chinese food, they sell cookies and Sachimas which I will buy at the TST branch when they open.

Be sure to give them a visit because they offer samples to everyone.
