Nice noodles at Lan Fong Yuen

Lan Fong Yuen (Central)
I was craving for some instant noodles so came here randomly.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Instant noodles with chicken steak:

I had no expectations because my first visit at TST branch was crap.
When the noodles arrived, you could see the chicken had been fried so I was expecting dry chicken, but it was actually still soft and juicy.
The chicken skin was crispy too.
The noodles were done just right and were still springy but the sauce was not evenly tossed into the noodles because towards the bottom, it got saltier.

Chinese style salmon and spinach omelette

Café de Coral (North Point)
I rarely dine at CDC but came here randomly because the fish on the menu seemed attractive.

There was fried fish filet in tomato sauce or salmon and spinach omelette.

Luckily I did not order the filet because it was coated in egg (Chinese style).
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salmon and spinach Chinese omelette:

When it arrived I realised the egg was Chinese style! CRAP!
It was such a good pairing of salmon and spinach but because it was done in a Chinese way, the egg was hard and plasticky.
The western style eggs are soft and fluffy.
There were also pieces of red peppers in it too which really ruined it.
For the locals it probably tastes nice but it was definitely not my cup of tea.

Swank Thai food at Holiday Inn

Moon Thai (Sheung Wan)
As well as drinks and lunches, they do great Thai food for the evenings.

Located on the second floor of the Holiday Inn hotel, they have lovely dining outside as well as nice tables indoors which are spaced out nicely.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Restaurant photos:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry and orange drink:

To start off with, I was choosing a non-alchoholic drink and there were so any choices to choose from.
In the end I chose strawberry and orange which was a lovely concoction of blended strawberry and oranges with a lovely tangy twist.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Raw shrimp:

I have never ordered this before so it was my first time trying it.
It was raw prawns on fresh mint leaves, raw bittermelon, minced green chilis and raw garlic.
They advised us to eat the prawns with the mint, bittermelon and the rest of the items.
The prawns were quite spicy and the mint and bittermelon eased it with minty freshness and crunch from the bittermelon that was not bitter.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Clams and pineapple soup:

The pineapple and clam soup was an interesting combination. I was expecting a clear soup but it was milky because milk was added.
There were lots of basil leaves in the soup and it tasted really sweet with delicious pieces of pineapples.
It was a really nice soup to start off with.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried fish bladder with shrimp:

The stir fried fish bladder was a little different to what I expecting because the ones I have tried before have not been coated in egg.
This dish was really fulfilling and the air bladders were really soft and tasted similar to Pad Thai because of the egg.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed fish in plum juice:

The steamed fish was really nice because it was heated with with a candle beneath keeping it hot.
I loved the plum juice because it was really sour and when the glass noodles soaked it up, the noodles were so nice.
The fish was really delicate and tasted great in the plum sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawns and glass vermicelli pot:

This was the best glass vermicelli pot I have had because the noodles were not oily, each strand was uniformly golden in colour and had a lovely sweet oyster sauce and soy sauce taste in it.
The prawns were huge and meaty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken Tandoori:

The chicken Tandoori comes in two's or four's and they give you the chicken leg which s nice and tender.
It came with cooling mint sauce which was a perfect sauce for the tasty chicken.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried baby cabbage:

I loved these baby cabbages which can be cooked in garlic or fermented beans at Moon Thai.
They were crisp and delicate with a gentle grassy taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dessert platter:

A nice platter of Thai dessert, from the left there was layered pudding, coconut pudding, pumpkin pudding and coconut sago pudding.
My favourites were the coconut pudding because it was light and made with coconut water and my other favourite was the pumpkin pudding.

Mushroom and egg muffin from KFC in Hong Kong

Kentucky Fried Chicken (Wan Chai)
I don't usually get breakfast but when I do have a chance to get breakfast, it is hard deciding which place to go, and then which item for breakfast.
In this case I chose KFC because I have never tried the muffin with mushroom and egg and I got two sets because I don't know when I wil have breakfast again!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom and egg muffin:

The mushroom and egg muffin was really nice but I would have preferred scrambled egg or omelette because the yolk was a bit dry.
The mushroom and cheese sauce on the other hand were really nice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried dough stick:

The dough stick did not taste as nice as the one I had previously, this one was too hard and chewy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soy milk:
Too sweet
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Coffee:
Tasted quite good because it was quite watery which is good for a non coffee drinker.

Mediterranean buffet at The Greenery

The Greenery (Tsim Sha Tsui)

Thanks to Isaac for the inviting me to this buffet tasting.
The Greenery is really classic because it has been here for decades.

This is probably my second or third visit at The Greenery.

My first visit was quite a few years ago and I really liked the food but did not review it at the time because it was a private function.

The buffet theme for September is Mediterranean food with fresh seafood and most importantly my favourite couscous

Here are some photos of what I had and what was available.
The range was impressive, they had deep fried oysters, seafood broth where you pick your seafood and the soup. If you choose the spicy Italian tomato soup, it is similar to having seafood Bouillabaisse.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Paella:

Great paella especially the rice, it was fully flavoured and soaked up the seafood essense.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Escargots:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cous Cous:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish:

The fish was set alight before serving to give it more flavour.
I was surprised it was still moist and soft deliciously complemented by the olive sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled prawns:

These prawns were huge and meaty covered with grilled cheese and caviar on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pandan pancake:

The pandan pancake was really nice with a strong pandan taste.
For the filling I chose cream and sprinkled it with dessicated coconut.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chinese soup:

The soup was strong and you could see the ingredients that they put in the soup.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seafood:

This was my favourite, you choose your seafood, vegetables and the soup base.
If you like Bouillabaisse then choose the spicy tomato soup which is similar, but I liked the vegetable broth because I could taste the vegetables and seafood.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Food:

This was one of the plates I had and I kept going out for more because the food was really good.
I was really amazed they had palm heart salad because it is a delicacy and frankly I have not tried it before but after trying it I really liked it.
It had a really delicate texture and it was not woody.
The fried oyster was good too and you could choose worchester sauce, lemon or Chinese salt to go with it.

Rancid sweets from Tai Cheong

Tai Cheong Bakery (Mong Kok)

Originally planned to get these grapefruit sweets for some fellow foodies because they seemed interesting.

As always I will also get one for myself to try so that I know whether it actually tastes good before giving them to people.

In this case, when I unscrewed the lid, I could smell rancid coconut so I tried a little bit and it had definitely gone off.

I checked the rest and they smelt the same so I took them back.

The staff at Tai Cheong could also smell it and offered to exchange it for other products so I got them exchanged.
The other ones on the shelf smelt rancid as well and I wondered if it was because of the bright light directly above the jars heating them up.

Thankfully this place had basic customer service unlike other local places.

It would be amusing if I did not try them because the ones I would have given to foodies would definately be negative reviews.

Cherikoff nougats from Macau

Cherikoff (Vila de Taipa)
Thanks <<IVY>> for these nougats from Macau.

They were individually wrapped.

The nougats were quite crunchy, after chewing them for a bit, they got chewier and the sweetness was just right complemented by the crunchy peanuts.
