Maxim's Cake Shop (Central)
Thanks to Maxim's for sending me some of their Valentines cake to try.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rose Garden $128:
This was a Pretty cake with rose patterned cream on the outside with three layers of different pink coloured cream.
They give you raspberry crunchies and chocolate hearts so that you decorate the cake how you want.
Beneath the cream is strawberry sponge and pieces of strawberry in it.
It was a nice soft cake with lots of velvety cream complemented by chunky raspberry crunchies that was not too sweet.
For those who can read Chinese:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Our Love Story $78:
The packaging is really pretty and has two cakes inside:
It would be a nice surprise as the cakes are discreetly disguised in the box.
+++
Strawberry mousse cake with strawberry jelly topped with three fresh raspberries.
+++
Chocolate mousse cake with crispy chocolate inside.
+++
As a girl, I liked the strawberry mousse cake because of the raspberries on top and the strawberry jelly in the middle in light strawberry mousse.
The chocolate was stronger and quite rich which would suitable for guys too and girls with a sweet tooth.
Again, more description in Chinese if you read Chinese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
They also have other cakes in the series for Valentines day.

Vegetarian sweet and sour from Wah Fung
Wah Fung (Central)
Came here randomly and I did not realise they were specialists in roast so ordered other stuff.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vegetarian sweet and sour:
This was monkey mushrooms coated in cornflour and cooked in the usual way to make the sweet and sour dish.
It was really nice, just like the meat version but after having a few, I got tired eating them.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lamb stew with beancurd skin in fermented beancurd sauce:
The beancurd skin was not soft enough and the sauce was really salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice:
The rice was not that fresh because it was yellow.
You could see that it was very yellow compared to the white bowl.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Strawberrymoon
Honeymoon Dessert has always been a no go zone for me because their desserts were old school style and traditional served in their signiature yellow square bowls.
Basically, I don't like sweet soups, walnut purees, red beans desserts, mango desserts, dumplings so what else can I order.
The only time I tried was at their MOONnHONEY store which is a modern version of Honeymoon Dessert at Mong Kok East Station.
MOONnHONEY
http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=148752&tc=sr1
What made me walk into Honeymoon Dessert was their new Strawberry series.
I always have strawberry dessert at Chung's in Po Lam, now available at Aunt Sweeties in Tin Hau too.
It was nice to see Honeymoon Dessert breaking off from the traditional and serving new desserts in chic glasses and not the boring square signature yellow bowls.
I was impressed with the design of the red packets too, they used strawberries and kiwis on it.
I tried three out of five in the Strawberry series.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry mochi:
The strawberry mochi was a little disappointing because the mochi skin was really thick and the brown filling which I thought was chocolate was actually red bean.
To be honest, I think chocolate filling and strawberry would be a better pairing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry tofu:
The strawberry tofu was gorgeous, it had ice crystals in the sauce which is cooling and melts when you eat it.
The strawberry icecream in the middle tasted like strawberry yoplait yoghurt.
It is probably made by the Honeymoon dessert factory because it does not taste like any other brand of icecream.
The tofu was really silky but I felt that the tofu taste was not strong enough and the colour of the strawberry sauce was a bit too vibrant.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry sago:
This was similar to the tofu but it had sago instead.
At first it tasted a bit sweet but after mixing it the sweetness was just right.
Again, I loved the ice crystals in the dessert but the sago was too soft.
The taste of the strawberry sauce and fresh diced strawberries went well with the sago but again the colour was a bit too pink.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grass jelly, durian in vanilla sauce
Tried this because I liked the vanilla sauce, grass jelly and durian. This is probably the most traditional dessert I would ever try at Honeymoon dessert.
I liked the scoop of durian meat in the middle and the grass jelly tasted good with vanilla sauce which is better than condensed milk served at other local desserteries.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Overall, the experience was good and I liked the way they gave you a plastic spoon as well as a metal spoon because it made it easier to enjoy the desserts.

Going to Macau on TurboJET's Premier Grand Class
On this trip to Macau, I decided to have a luxurious trip by travelling on TurboJET's Premier Grand Class.
There are selected travelling times because the TurboJETs have to be equipped with meal stations and VIP cabins.
There is a TurboJET Premier Lounge in Hong Kong where you can relax and have access to WIFI with drinks and snacks but unfortunately on my trip to Macau I did not find this lounge.
I ended up waiting in the Premier Grand Class waiting lounge near the boarding area.
(photo taken inside the lounge hence the reversed wording!!)
The lounge has two areas, one for the Superclass ticket holders and the other lounge for the Premier Grand Class.
The Premier Grand Class has red carpets and white leather sofas and you are given a bottle of water when you arrive.
There is a water dispenser at the Superclass lounge.
Video of the Premier Grand Class waiting lounge:
At the time of filming I was disappointed because I did not know there were two lounges.
I loved the lounge because the TurboJET staff will assist you in boarding where the Premier Grand Class passengers board last, it was fun skipping the queues to the TurboJET.
Premier Grand Class passengers are seated at the front with a full view of the sea and close to the magazine rack.
Video on board the TurboJET:
There is a VIP cabin too which I would love to try next time.
They bring you the latest newspapers to read.
At the front, there are magazines.Video of the magazines.
For people who have to be online, they provide you with an exclusive WIFI too.
Shortly you are served your meals, on this journey I had Breakfast.
The breakfast was lovely especially the scrambled eggs and croissant.
After breakfast you are served drinks with chocolate nibbles.
Food and drinks menu:
Within a flash, you are in MACAU.
I felt so privileged being a Premier Grand Class passenger because you get to leave first.
In the monetary world Time is money and Money is Time!!
Lunches at Outback Steakhouse
Outback Steakhouse (Wan Chai)
Since they launched their new set lunches, I have always wanted to try it.
I regret not going earlier because some of the choices previously there have been taken off because HK'ers just usually order steaks, burgers and not the fancy choices.
The choices they had before that I would have tried were:
-Crispy Chicken Sandwich (Boneless chicken breast, breaded and deep-fried to a golden
brown. Served with lettuce, tomato, chipotle mayonnaise and Aussie Fries.)
-Tilapia with Pure Lump Crab Meat (tilapia fish wtih crab meat topped sliced mushrooms, finished with a drizzle of light lemon butter Chablis sauce. Served with fresh seasonal mixed veggies.
-Toowoomba Chicken (Sauteed shrimp and button mushrooms tossed in a tomato
cream sauce and served over grilled chicken. Served with seasonal veggies.)
-Bacon Camembert Cheese Burger (Topped with Camembert cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, pickles, crispy mushrooms, chive aioli and Aussie Fries.)
I've never been to Toowoomba before but the Toowoomba chicken sounded good.
Since the menu has changed, it made my decision easier because all those lovely choices were gone and the spicy shrimp rice was the only one I wanted to try, the rest were baby back ribs, burgers and stuff that you would normally order.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup and salad:
The soup was cold because there were so many bowls of soup on the table ready to be served when people ordered.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bushman's bread:
The bread was lovely and warm with a strong sugary taste just like black sugar bread paired with the delicious buttery sweet cream.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spicy prawn rice:
The rice was a bit soft and mushy but it was flavoured with lots of spices such as cayenne pepper and paprika.
On top of the rice there were lots of deep fried julienne sweet potatoes which were very crunchy but a bit dry.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tea:
The tea was horrible because I hate Ceylon tea (basically Hong Kong style milk tea) which is bitter and it was served with coffee creamer.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The food came very slow on this visit and some of it was quite cold too.

Chicken pot again from Supreme Restaurant
Supreme Restaurant (Causeway Bay)
I found out about this restaurant because I went to a tasting at their MK branch.
It was so nice that I went back again.
However at this branch, they don't seem to take telephone bookings when I phoned, when I got there, they asked if I booked so I said the person on the phone did not let me book.
Anyway, I did not abuse my authority as a reviewer because I could have simply called the Manager who gave me his business card to book.
Another reviewer who also went again anonymously was allowed to book but it was before a certain time.
This time they used the portable gas stoves which were much better at controlling the heat.
The amount of chicken in the pot was reasonable and it tasted as good as the tasting.
At the CWB branch, there are more snacks such as soups, salads and fried items.
The fried fish skin were delicious, they were crispy and had a strong fishy taste.
The only thing that the MK branch fared better was the seating because it was not so cramped.
There is a two hour dining time limit that starts counting when you sit down and they will present you with the bill half an hour before it ends but you can still continue eating until time is up.

Fiji custard from BreadTalk
BreadTalk (Tseung Kwan O)
A new branch of BreadTalk has opened in Hang Hau.
This branch is quite small compared to the other branches.
Anyway I got the Fiji Custard.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fiji custard:
I am quite puzzled why this is called Fiji custard because there is no custard in it nor can I find anything related to Fiji.
It was basically filled with cream and tasted like an oily cronut.
I did not like the crust because it was too crunchy.
