Beetroot and salmon Omerice

Decided to dine here again for the Omerice.

This time I had the beetroot and salmon omerice which comes with cream sauce.
There was meant to be bacon in it but I asked them to leave the bacon because I didn't feel like having bacon in it.

The egg was a lovely pink colour and it was soft and fluffy.

However the rice was a bit too salty so I couldn't finish it all.

Relaxed restaurant in the midst of Mong Kok 心之町。。扒房餐廳

Mong Kok is a such a crowded and busy city that it is hard to find a comfortable place to dine.

Behind the stalls at Ladies Market lies this lovely place for a comfortable gathering.

They do steaks and a variety of dishes.

Next time when people ask me to recommend a place in Mong Kok I shall recommend them here because the prices are affordable and the portions are huge especially the steaks which are good for sharing and guys will love meat any day!

They had really nice plates too.

Here was what we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Black cow $22:

This is basically an icecream float. In Hong Kong, they called them "Cows"!!
There are three colours: Black cow, red cow and yellow cow.
The black is coke paired with chocolate icecream, the red is lemonade paired with strawberry icecream and the yellow is cream soda paired with vanilla icecream.
The yellow cow is probably the best but I chose the black cow because I felt like some chocolate icecream.
After mixing it, the taste was really good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried Chicken cartilage $22:

For $22 that was quite an impressive portion, but they were a bit soft.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Loaf of bread stuffed with seafood $78:

海鮮焗金磚
This is great for sharing and there was so much seafood crammed in the middle, the curry sauce is served separately which is good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pork Chops $68:

芝士燒汁煎穀飼豬扒配薯菜
Again, two huge pork chops for $68, that is pretty amazing.
They were soft and juicy, after pouring the black pepper sauce, they tasted even better.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sirloin steak, fish and mussels $78:

薄切西冷牛扒配煎龍脷柳伴紐西蘭青口意粉
I was quite full but I had most of the steak because it was tender and juicy!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Escargots baked with mash and cheese $26 :

心之法國田螺
The mash was slightly salty so I told the kitchen.
Hopefully it won't be so salty next time.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

On my next visit, I plan to have steak and escargots!!

The new look of The Spice House!

The Spice House (Wan Chai)

A few months ago I thought they were closed down but luckily they were renovating it because I love their food.

After renovation, the restaurant is more spacious and it looks like the other branch on Amoy Street.

I was relieved to see the menu was the same and had more variety than the Amoy Street branch.
Prices have gone up which is better than seeing them close down.

On the table, they have the same condiments.

Open kitchen area.

The thing that I miss after renovation is the self service water because it was fragrant pandan flavoured water.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried rice:

Had the chicken fried rice which was as good as before, the grains of rice were distinct.
Every mouthful was delicious with pieces of tender chicken.
After adding vinegar to it, the fried rice was more appetizing.

New look and new dishes at Yue Mic Ka

Yue Mic Ka used to be a few doors away, but the new branch is bigger and better with more dishes to choose from.

It used to be boring rice noodles but now they have RISOTTO!!!!
They have Squid ink risotto too which I shall try next time.

After a tiring day, celebrity chef suggested to dine here because the fish broth is MSG free and the rice in broth was healthy and filling.

Here was the food we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Red rice and vegetables in tomato soup:

This is vegetarian which makes it a brilliant choice for green Mondays.
It was red rice in delicious tomato broth and lots of vegetables.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice noodles with fishcurd and vegetables:

This is their signiature noodles with their famous fishcurd in fish soup which does not contain MSG.
The broth was creamy with a strong fish taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fishcurd and soft pork bone risotto:

The soft pork bone risotto was amazing because the rice was really tasty and flavoured by the gelatinous pork bones.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
If you're dining alone and feel like having a feast, they have a royal banquet dinner for one so you can feast yourself!

Royal banquet dinner:

There are four main choices:
-Fishcurd, scallop and chicken in fish soup
-Meat and vegetable dumpling, mushrooms in fish soup
-Prawns, soft pork bones with rice noodles.
-Cod, vegetarian abalone with rice noodles.

After choosing the mains, you get to choose one of the following:

魚腐 Fried fish curd with clam sauce:

Shunde style deep fried milk 順德心軟鮮奶:

鎮江排骨 Zhenjiang spare ribs:

酒燒雞翼 chicken wings glazed with wine:

Personally I liked the fried milk because it was crispy with delicious milk curd in the middle and the chicken wings.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
For some people, dining alone is definitely not an option, so they also have the big bowl feast (poon choi) which you can order in advance to eat at home and it is available every day of the year!!!!

The highlight of the big bowl feast is that it comes with fish broth which you put in like a hotpot.

Poon choi:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
With all the new items, I can't wait to try the other items.

Local chicken pot with fun

Eating Plus Company Limited (Shau Kei Wan)

Havent had chicken pot for ages so decided to have it again with local friends.

The restaurant was located in a food alley near the MTR station.

While I dined there, the environment was lively and it was interesting watching the locals and listening to their conversations.

We had some appetizers to begin with.
The golden eggs were divine with creamy molten yolk in the middle and the egg white was golden yellow jelly.

The spices were not too spicy which meant I could enjoy these preserved eggs.
I loved the molten yolk and it was hard to not eat them all.

The pork slices were better than anticipated because they were leaner than the usual ones.

Anyway, had the $148 chicken pot which had half a chicken in it.

After it was cooked, we started on the chicken which was tender and tasty.

I really liked their Chongqing chicken pot recipe because it had all the spices and flavours without being too salty.

During the meal, we had the home made prune drink which had a smoky taste and it was not too sweet.

After all the chicken was finished, we had the pot filled with chicken soup and it was hotpot time.
Here were the items we put in our hotpot.

Fried beancurd skin rolls

vegetables

potato noodles

bamboo piths

beef

tofu

Mixed meatballs

The potato noodles were great because they had a lovely elastic texture and absorbed the delicious flavourful broth.

Maxim's Chinese spaghetti bolognaise

As with most Chinese spaghetti bolognaise it comes with a fried egg on top.
Anyway, I really hated the bolognaise sauce because it was too sweet with a strong garlic taste when the onion taste should have been more prominent.

Marshmallow toast at Metropolitan Cafe

As usual the staff here are rude and carefree.

I came here for the S'mores which was crushed peanuts, chocolate chips and marshmallows in a toast.

The S'mores was a bit too sweet for my liking and there wasn't enough marshmallows in it.
The toast that they used was not fresh because the texture was dry, hard and chewy.
