Brunch at Americanos

Since my last visit, there are new breakfast items so I went here for brunch.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Iced tea:

It was iced earl grey so I really liked it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Huevos Americanos:
The taco wraps were not soft enough but the runny egg yolk and delicious toppings made up for it and the bacon was the best because it was crispy and not too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
breakfast burrito:
The breakfast burrito was really tasty because it was loaded with cheese, egg, black beans and guacamole.

Lunches at Ba Yi

To be honest lunch here is better than the evenings because you can get a taste of mutton at a better deal.
Lunches are under $50 and there is no service charge.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cumin spiced mutton with rice :

I loved flavoured rice and this had shredded pieces of pumpkin in it garnished with raisins and onions.
As well as the rice, the lamb was tasty but the rice gets heavy towards the end because it has quite a lot of oil mixed into it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Noodles:

The noodle was in a delicious broth and there were lots of diced vegetables and pieces of tofu in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Goat's milk pudding:
The pudding was made from goat's milk powder but it still tasted ok because it was very creamy and silky.

Claypot for lunch

I was surprised to see claypot meals being offered during lunch time so I gave it a try.

There were two versions: normal rice or glutinous rice.

I chose the squid because it looked good and the glutinous rice was too heavy for lunch.

The advantage of choosing this is that you don't need to give the kitchen the ticket but wait for your number to be called out to collect.

Claypot rice with dried squid, diced chicken and poached egg:

I don't normally have food served in claypots because they have a weird smell but Fairwood does not normally serve these dishes hence the pots are new and don't have that weird smell which makes me throw up.
Anyway, I really enjoyed it because the rice was good and the patty was tasty with the pieces of squid and egg yolk mixed into it.

Mei Foo's hidden golden nuggets of treasure

If I am ever at Mei Foo I always have to stop here for some nougats.
This place is only famous to the small majority that know it but quite famous for Chinese expats because they buy boxes of nougats and cookies as souvenirs.

Hopefully I will be back soon because the nougats are addictive and I regretted not getting the chicken biscuits and the abalone biscuits.

This time I got the nougat variety pack which has all eight nougat flavours:
Original flavour, crispy chocolate, crispy coffee, crispy black sesame, almond nougat, almond and prune, ginger and almond and blueberry and hazelnut.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Original peanut

The peanut flavour was quite nice because it was crammed with lots of peanuts in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
crispy chocolate
This one was my favourite because it is crispy and chewy and tastes just like a mini lion bar!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
crispy coffee

Not a fan of coffee so and I found it too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
crispy black sesame
Not a fan of sesame so it just tasted ok.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
almond nougat

This one was quite addictive because there were lot of crunchy almonds in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
almond and prune

As well as the chocolate, this was also my favourite because it was very chewy and soft.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
ginger and almond
The ginger one is quite different compared to other ones because it has a fiery kick to it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
blueberry and hazelnut

This one was quite sweet but I loved the hazelnuts.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
After trying all the flavours, my favourites are the prune and the crispy chocolate.

McD's prosperity beef burger n twister fries 2015

Initially hesitated to try the prosperity burger because I thought it was just the same as the usual black pepper burger except the shape is different.
But anyway got the set because of the twister fries.

In 2012, McDonalds also served this exact set for Chinese New Year!~!!

In 2015, they have serve it in a Hello Kitty Burger box and they give you burger envelopes for Chinese new year!

As I got the set mainly for the fries I didnt have any expectations for the burger, I just expected it to taste like the black pepper beef burger.
The twister fries were as good as before but not hot enough. However I was surprised the burger tasted nice.

The black pepper was not so strong this time and the sauce was sweeter than the black pepper version.
So overall this burger was nicer than expected because the black pepper taste did not overpower the rest of the burger.
If you are a beef lover you will be disappointed because the beef taste is light and the patty is very soft.

Nice secluded Yakitori bar at Bilibala Yakitori Bar

This joint is nice and secluded located on the end of Haven Street round the corner from Via Tokyo.

They have an English menu for expats.

Yakitori means grilled chicken on sticks but they serve other items as well as chicken.

Here was what I had.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
cucumber with wasabi:

This was a nice to start the meal because the cucumbers were crunchy flavoured by the freshly grated wasabi.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese fishball with wasabi:

The Japanese fishballs are different from Chinese ones and they were lovely white slices that looked like Chinese radish.
They were very palatable and tasted like sweet mock abalone slices with wasabi.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled cheese mochi:

This was my favourite because it was soft gooey cheese in the middle encased in a crispy chewy shell.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled chicken livers:

The livers were velvety and soft with a slight bitter aftertaste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled chicken:

Indeed the chicken was good because it tender juicy thigh meat.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled rice roll with sea urchin:

The rice roll was a bit hard but it tasted ok.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese cold soba:

To finish off I had the soba which was quite a big portion.
The strands were quite thick and soft.

Came here just for the potato rosti! at 美味坊

I have always wanted to try this place for the potato rosti but it is in the middle of nowhere.
From the middle of nowhere it is now right next to a new MTR exit which was the perfect excuse to come!
Before you get there, you have to go on the slowest escalators which are perfect for the elderly and people who don't know how to use the escalators.

When you get there, this cafe has a nice secluded dining area and the seats are the benches that you would find in parks and now Burger Circus have used them.

There are thrushes flying in and out the food court so it is really cool with birds chirping but not so cool if the avian flu is about.

While I sat there, it felt like I was on a British train because the seating is similar to that.

As I was there for the potato rosti, I had to order the set which comes with tea, toast and omelette.
I suppose I should have asked them if I could just have a rosti knowing that I would not like the Chinese omelette which was rubbery and hard.
The tea is obviously HK style tea.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Toast:

The toast was surprisingly good because the butter was decent and it was toasted just right with a soft middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Potato rosti:

As expected the rosti was delicious, it was probably home made by them because the potato strands were soft and wet.

It had a gorgeous crispy surface while the middle was soft delicious grated potato.
