Lovely Spanish lunch at d' Oliva Spanish Takeaway & Tapas

Came here on a Saturday and got a good lunch deal because you normally get one choice for lunch but the owner allowed me to have two choices so I ended up having Bacalao ala crema (Roasted codfish) and fried squid.
The dessert was tempting because it was a whole roasted apple but unfortunately I was too full to order that.

Lunch set:

On the left was mashed codfish and potato with salad and on the right was fried baby squids.
It came with rice which was perfect because I love eating potatoes and rice together.
The mashed codfish was really tasty because it was salted and the squid had a light crispy coating with a springy texture.

Tea:

The tea was sweetened just right so I was happy.

合記粥店 is now back in Wan Chai

If it wasn't for openrice I would not have known that this congee joint used to be located on Lockhart Road four years ago.
The reviews at that shop were quite negative especially the hygiene and service.
Luckily I didn't get any of that and the shop owner was extremely nice and I even saw him give meal tickets (飯票)to an eldery.

The congee there was delicious and really cheap too.
Surprisingly they used an electric cooker to cook it!

Each bowl of congee was cooked separately and he took his time to cook them.

The congee variety was amazing.

Overall, the congee was good but the rice rolls were too elastic like glutinous pastry.
Every congee had delicious spring onions and tasty peanuts stirred into it before it was served.

Pig's stomach congee with cumin:

I don't normally order anything with pig's stomach but ordered it because of the cumin.
The congee was lovely and creamy with a hint of cumin.

Boat congee:

This congee was loaded with minced beef!!

Eel congee:
The eel congee was amazing because they put Chinese wine in it.


The eel was boneless as well and I didn't find any brittle bones in the congee.

Fried fish:

The fried fish was crispy from head to tail and every bit was edible because the guts were removed.
It just tasted delicious and brought out the best taste of congee after you took a bite of the crispy fish.

Rice rolls and fried dough stick rice rolls:
The rice rolls were the only items that I did not like because they was too chewy.

Funky Asian Bisto

This is a really nice joint specializing in char siu, spicy chicken and grilled beef.

[according to their website] It is called Uncle Joe's because it is a heart-felt tribute to an extraordinary man’s good taste for life and food, created by Uncle Joe's four sons, all physicians and surgeons in the United States.
Uncle Joe is a real person in his nineties who believes that char shiu possibly gave him his long life, good health and good fortune.”

As well as traditional rice, they have Asian burritos too!
Unfortunately I tried this place too late because they had savoury puffs before.

Char Shiu burrito:


This was just D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S, char siu, cucumbers and lettuce in a wrap.
I think the other wraps are going to be great especially the chicken, but I am not sure about the beef because I don't like Korean flavours.

sweet potato tots:


These were just mashed sweet potatoes coated in cutlet coating.

Spicy Sichuan chicken with rice:

The chicken with rice will make you hungry because the pieces of chicken thigh meat are crispy coated with Sichuan spices which you can smell when they bring it over.

The sweet soy sauce on the rice is a perfect match with the spices and brings it alive while soothing the spiciness of the spices.

Sichuan spicy Italian pasta bolognese:

I loved the spicy bolognese sauce because it had chickpeas in it but it would be good if they served it with pasta and not Chinese noodles.

Silence of the lambs or silenced by the lambs

I have always wanted to try this place but either I have just had a meal or I was there at the wrong time.
Finally tried it because the place I wanted to go was closed so went here instead.

Compared to the reviews a while ago there seem to be less items on the menu and to be honest there is not a lot of choice to choose from.

Lamb skewers:


The lamb was springy and tasty flavoured by the cumin and salt but I found it a bit too fatty.

Yoghurt drink:

The yoghurt drink was nice because it was lightly sweetened but it still had a tart taste.

Salad:

The salad was lovely, it was simple and delicious because the cucumber and tomatoes were flavoured by the raw onion juices.

Lamb pancakes:


The lamb was gorgeous because there were lots of finely chopped crisp onions in it and the sweet yellow bean complemented it nicely.
I just felt that the pancakes could have been softer.

Not just pretty cookies at Phoenix Sweets

Phoenix Sweets started their first shop at PMQ which drew lots of attention because of the girly pastel mint green decor and lovely cookies.



Now they have a store at Fashion Walk which is convenient for people in the city.
I had two cupcakes at Phoenix sweets, one was yuzu and the other one was cookies and cream.
The yuzu one was quite good because the cream had a strong citrus flavour and the cupcake base was soft and buttery.


As for the cookies and cream I found it a bit too sweet.

Check your bill at Linguini Fini

I was here for the Baked Macheroni Carbonara but luckily the waitor was smart and told me that they are serving rigatoni pasta and not the macaroni as posted on their instagram because I prefer macaroni.

I ordered the hanger steak instead.

hanger steak:


The hanger steak was just delicious, it was soft, juicy and delicious.

Apart from the delicious food, it takes some time for the food to come and getting the bill.
When I got the bill, I realized I was charged for STILL WATER which I did not ask for.
A bottle of water was placed on my table but they did not tell me it was $20 but luckily the guy kindly refunded it and said they should have told me that it was not free.


The bottle was about 1.5 litres in volume which is a bit much for someone dining alone hence the negative review even though the steak is amazing.
BUT I WILL BE BACK!!

Still the best Waffills in town

Since my last visit, this shop has changed so much, there is now a huge seating area.


The menu has expanded from a few items to endless choices.



They have Liege waffles which were not there before and apple filled waffles too.

Cherry waffle:
I went for the cherry waffle because I love cherries.
It was a waffle filled with cherries and it tasted amazing because the cherries were tart and juicy which were delicious encased in the waffle paired with cream.

Belgian Hot chocolate:

The hot chocolate came with the waffle above.
Not a fan of hot chocolate so I would have preferred tea instead.

Ma Cherie:

It was a hard choice for the second waffle because I was deciding between the Belgian waffle and the apple filled waffle, but in the I got this one because I haven't had for ages.
The waffle was light and crisp, not too sweet which was perfectly complemented by the cherries and cream.
There are other choices with this but again I love cherries so I had to choose this.

Going to try the Belgian Flemish Pork Stew and Chicken Fricassee Vol Au Vent next.
