Interesting Sichuan menu

I came across this joint on my way to Icelicious so stopped for some food.
The menu was interesting so I tried these black noodles because I didn’t know what they were with shredded chicken.
++++++++++++++++++++
Chicken with black noodles:

It came with lots of toppings such as pickled beans, crunchy soya beans and other pickled vegetables.

The noodles beneath were black and tossed in sauce, which was fragrant, and delicious infused with Sichuan spices (not an expert in Sichuan food) while the chicken was surprisingly good because it was flavourful and the chicken was springy!

I saw these snacks in the fridge:

Interesting finds on the menu:

Girl's night [Bistronomique Staunton]

Previously came here for lunch which was good but dinner is even better.
Started off with crusty bread and butter.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Foie gras “confit” Gewurztrominer gelee $128

Started with this sinfully guilty foie gras which was velvety and rich with a strong white wine jelly that complimented it perfectly.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Caesar salad with anchovy and Parmesan $88

Then we had the salad which was generously topped with shaved parmesan and the highlight of the salad were the white anchovies because the vinegar that it was in was really appetizing.
The eggs had a perfectly runny yolk too!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spinach crepes with black truffle and cheese $88

The crepes which was flaky filo pastry were stuffed with lovely spinach and cheese is fit for anyone who loves spinach and cheese with a hint of black truffle which made them even more scrumptious.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lobster risotto (for two $680)

The lobster risotto was interesting because it was loaded with pearl onions and other vegetables which makes it less heavy and the lobster was meaty and springy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bitter chocolate mousse cake with vanilla ice-cream HK$ 55

To finish off, we had this rich velvety mousse cake which had lovely layers of chocolate cake in between.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
We had a lovely girls night with fine food but we were left feeling guilty because of the dishes with high cholesterol!

Jamie’s Italian in Kowloon

After trying Jamies in Causeway Bay, we decided try the new TST branch, which is bigger with an open kitchen bar.
There is an alfresco area at the back.
Inside it has the same décor as CWB, which is painted by Jamie’s friend Barnaby Purdy, an urban artist.

This time we tried other items and some items that were exclusive to the TST branch denoted by the *.
In the UK, Jamies Italian DOES NOT HAVE PIZZA on the menu.
Here was what we had:
+++++++
ITALIAN NACHOS $68

Crispy fried ravioli stuffed with three cheeses, served with arrabbiata & Parmesan.
I am not a fan of nachos but I love ravioli, which was why I ordered this.
For some people it might be a bit dry but I liked the cheesy filling in the middle encased in the crispy ravioli.
+++++++
*GARLIC BREAD $45

With oozy garlic & herb butter
The texture of the bread was a bit like thick naan and it was slightly crispy.
+++++++
*PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM FRITTI $68

Crispy breadcrumbed portobello mushrooms & garlicky mayo.
This was everyones favourite because it was juicy chunky wedges coated in crispy breadcrumb coatnig.
+++++++
MUSSEL & SQUID SPAGHETTI NERO $108 / 188

Squid-ink pasta, flash-fried squid & mussels with slow-cooked, tender octopus, capers, anchovies, tomatoes & white wine.
The squid pasta was delicious and this is how it should taste because the pasta had squid ink taste and the sauce had a rich seafood taste so the whole thing was delcious.
+++++++
SAUSAGE PAPPARDELLE $88 / 148

Braised fennel sausage ragù with incredible Chianti, Parmesan & crunchy, herby breadcrumbs
As well as the pasta above, I liked the parppadelle because the meat sauce was rich and the strands of pappardelle had frilly edges which hung more sauce to it.
+++++++
HONG KONG HOT $178

Pizza topped with tomato sauce, Cheddar cheese, fennel salami, spicy meatballs, jalapeño chillies & buffalo mozzarella.
The pizzas on the menu are only available in HK.
The Hong Kong hot is great for meatlovers and people who like salami.
+++++++
FUNGHI MISTI $168

With truffle cream, Cheddar cheese, wild & field mushrooms, Parmesan, smoked mozzarella & thyme.
I liked the mushroom pizza because it was light with a lovely truffle flavouring.
+++++++
TIRAMISÙ $65

Coffee-flavoured trifle with orange mascarpone & chocolate.
The orange mascarpone made a real difference because the citrus flavours and chocolate cake went really well together.
+++++++
SEASONAL ALMOND TART $68

Freshly baked frangipane tart served with icecream.
The almond tart was dense with a strong almond taste.
+++++++
Overall, I liked the pastas the most so I will be back for it.

When you pay the bill, you can tip accordingly which goes solely to the waiter/waitress that served you.

Filming at Meokbang for Korean Food 飲食男女

After filming Nova Café for I was really chuffed to film at Meokbang for Korean food.
It was good because I have been to this Korean joint many times before.

Again, the biggest challenge was my voice because of the Vocal Adduction thing.
The script was challenging but I felt quite pleased that I was quite thorough with it even though there were a few bloopers when I got nervous because they don’t film it according to the rundown.

Filming at Nova Cafe for Eat Travel Weekly 飲食男女

A really big Thank you to Daniel and Sudden for giving me the chance to film this video for Nova Café.

I must admit even though I have known Daniel for a long time, he has this charisma that makes you go shy when you look directly at him.
The biggest challenge was my first voice because I have a vocal cord adduction, which makes it difficult and hard work for the audio guys.
Chinese is not my first language so it takes time to sink in what I have to say, but I really enjoyed this challenge.

At Nova Café, we tried Gillardeau oysters and Fleur de Eaux.
My favorites were the escargots and mash, which were baked with red wine, and butter and the sesame crusted lamb.

For drinks we had Spanish beers which are rare in Hong Kong.

Smashed duck (Indonesian duck confit)

I was in Causeway Bay because I wanted to try I See I See but I had to have lunch first so I was just walking along to see if anything took my fancy.
Ended up here because I wanted something different and the smashed duck caught my attention because the name was interesting and it looked like duck confit.

Went in and ordered it, the food came moderately fast.
They offer you gloves to eat the duck but I preferred using cutlery.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Smashed duck:

The duck and rice had this tasty crispy stuff sprinkled on top and there was a wedge of raw cabbage, cucumber slices and two pieces of tofu.

There were two different pieces of tofu, one was an ordinary one and the other was a tofu patty.

I liked the tofu patty because its texture was mushy with an acidic taste.
As for the duck, it was nice but the meat was too dry otherwise I would have given this place top marks.
The dish costs $50 which is quite expensive for Indonesian food.
