Fairwood's Ramen King in white, black and Red

I never thought I would be trying the ramen at Fairwood because I just assumed Fairwood would be packed with people and the price of the food is quite expensive for self-service style.

The Ramen King is only served at lunch and DINE in only.
There are three different types, which are associated with colour the same as Butao: Black, Red and White. White is the most basic ramen which comes in pork broth, red is the spicy one and black is black garlic oil. All the ramen have a pork broth, topped with thinly sliced roast pork, black fungus, kelp, garlic puree, spring onion and an egg.

Black Ramen King On the product shot there was generous black garlic oil and on the real thing it was barely visible.

For those who have not tried black garlic oil and are hoping to try it through the black king I suggest they can try Nissin’s black garlic oil instant noodles.
The sachet of black garlic oil from Nissin is more generous!!!
If it is someone’s first time trying black garlic oil, they are not going to get any memorable impression.
Other than that, I felt that these noodles were Jongkonised starting from the Chinese style broth which was really thin and the egg was hard poached too.
The pureed garlic was quite nice but not freshly made garlic puree and the noodles were similar to spaghetti which was really soft and thick. As for the soup it was quite tasteless that I had to add some chili from the other Red Ramen bowl.

This was basically the same as the above but served with chili oil which was so Chinese!
It had preserved beans in it, the exact same taste as Ja Jiang chili sauce.
Although it is not authentic ramen, the chili sauce made it quite delectable because of the preserved beans.

Pumpkin and ham quiche @ Pacific Coffee

There are now four quiche flavours at Pacific Coffee, the latest addition is Pumpkin and Ham.

The salmon and the spinach & mushroom used to be my favourite but now it is Pumpkin and Ham.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++ Pumpkin and Ham quiche:
As always their quiches taste really nice but it is slightly oily and there is some MSG in it.
I like their quiches because it doesn’t taste so eggy and there is cheese on top. The one I had this time was pumpkin and ham, the pumpkin and ham was cut to thin slices.
The pumpkin was nice and molten, it was UNSUGARED which was good because the Chinese have a thing about putting sugar with pumpkin and in savoury dishes.
The ham in the quiche was from the same supplier, the same ham they put in their croissant which is dry and rubbery with a tough edge.
Overall I really liked it and if they had used a softer ham it would taste better.

Scrambled egg with BBQ roast pork @ 頌興餐廳小廚

Scrambled eggs with Chinese roast pork cannot go wrong.

When it arrived it looked visually delicious, but the egg was strangely dry.

Other than that the roast pork and soy sauce tasted nice together.
There were lots of spring onions and onions in the scrambled egg which made it not so boring.

MR. Vietnamese Baguette House now in Wan Chai

Previously I used to go the one at Fortress Hill, which was far, but now there is a branch in Wan Chai, but it is still too far, so I called for a delivery.

I did not have their menu, but luckily there is one on Open Rice but when I called the set I wanted to order was not on and the baguettes are now cheaper but without drinks.
You can get the Baguette set with chips or prawn crackers and a drink, but as I do not like prawn crackers I just ordered the baguette.
The chips would be soggy by the time it got delivered too so that’s why I did not get the set as well.

As a standard at this place, all baguettes have Vietnamese sausage, Julienne carrots, onions, and pate with a choice of filling: mushrooms, sardines, chicken, pork, pork floss or beef.
There are three choices for the baguette: Charcoal, Original and Black malt.

I chose the Charcoal baguette with mushrooms and the Original baguette with sardines.

The baguettes arrived well on time and the guy had change prepared when I paid.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Charcoal baguette with mushrooms
The Julienne carrots were really nice and refreshing and they have turned an ingredient which I don’t like delcious. The baguette was fresh and crispy and the sauces were strong however there was a lot of MSG in the sauce.
The Vietnamese sausage and mushrooms were thinly sliced which made it easier to eat.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Original baguette with sardines
This tasted the same as the above and there were sardines instead of mushroom.
The baguette for this one was slightly soggy because of the fish.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Both baguettes were split at the top with a gap in the middle like a hotdog which are different from Western baguettes or buns because they are split at the side.
Their baguettes have kept the same standard as the baguettes at Fortress Hill but the one thing I could not taste in the baguette was the liver pate nor could I see it.

Fatal attraction with fate, you can't fight fate @ Olala

I have always wanted to try this place but last time I came it was closed.

In a way, I was glad it was closed because I had not read 梵高將軍's review as it was really detailed explaining the ingredients in the soup and the special pickled vegetables you can ask for so I knew at least what to expect.

I should have accepted fate that I didnt have any luck with this place as it was closed the first time I attempted to go.
I should given up recently when the their phone number 2294 0426 didnt ring as well when I called to check if it was open!
Well if their phone is dead I cant see them getting any reservations through the phone, but this same number is not only listed on OR but on other websites as well.

From my previous experiences when I tried to go to places that were closed on my first visit, the food was not good or the items I wanted to try were not available when they were open.

Anyway, went there, and ordered the Prawn noodles.

Waited for a while and it arrived, the soup was lighter than 梵高將軍's, it was not even orange/brown or had those orange oil droplets but if it tastes really nice then I am not bothered.
As the reviews mentioned, it should have prawns and dried prawns, so I decided to take pictures to flaunt the dried prawns and prawn.

I picked the prawn and put it in a separate bowl, then I started to look for the dried prawns.
I was stirring the noodles in my bowl over and over and I could not find any.
I could only find one type of prawn, but Smashing pumpkins had three types!!

PICTURE OF MY NOODLES - Below!!!!
I asked the waitor if there were meant to be any dried prawns "ACCORDING TO THE MENU" then she asked another colleague who came over and she told me that they were temporarily not available.
冇蝦干!!!!!一想火再心中
冇蝦干!!!!!一想火再心中
I was furious because they should have mentioned it beforehand or at least indicate that on the menu.
As it was listed on the menu, I felt the dried shrimps were a main ingredient as well along with the prawns and spring onions!! The broth was probably not as strong as it should be!

I asked since when they didnt have the dried shrimp and she said it was recently not available and next time when I come it should be available.
This is my first visit and I have been deceived already, do you think I would come back again???????
Also their telephone number does not work so how I can call to ask?

Usually this happens at busy fast food places where they run out of ingredients but since those dishes are not that expensive it acceptable to go without or have it changed.

It's just not on for a Michelin rated restaurant to be doing that to customers.
If I had not read the earlier reviews I would be thinking my noodles were worth $150 when actually part of the ingredients were missing!
I wonder how many people have eaten the prawn noodles recently without being given the dried shrimp without knowing it?

They did offer to let me to choose another noodle but there was nothing else I really wanted, and it was just one of those restaurants where there is only one item that I wanted to try.

I suppose I should have changed it to the oyster and meat noodles 蠔豉肉片麵 but I couldnt think straight at that moment!
I then asked for the pickled vegetables as GF said they tasted nice, but the tone of her voice sounded like I deserved it because I did'nt get any dried shrimps!!
