Vegetarian Shaomais @ Kung Wo Tong

Kung Wo Tong (Wan Chai)

At this branch of Kung Wo Tong, they have a glass cabinet section that serves Vegetarian snacks.

Not all branches of Kung Wo Tong have it, anyway got some Vegetarian Shaomais.

Vegetarian Shaomais:

The vegetarian shaomais here are weird and I do not know why I keep getting them again and again.
They taste really artificial and rubbery.
They smell weird too!

Fish Shaomai @ 呂仔記

The ratings for this restaurant are quite evenly distributed so far.

There are about 12X reviews and around 40 reviews for good, average and poor.

I came here because of the fish shaomai.

fish shaomai:
The shape of these fish shaomai are irregular compared to the machine made ones.
It was nice that these shaomai did not have grounded bones in it.
The fish taste was not as strong as I expected because there is one in Sai Kung that has a stronger fish taste but they have bones in it.
The taste of MSG in these fish shaomai was light which was good.

Fishy fish shaomai @ Flower and Fruit 88

I like the fish shaomais here because there is something different about their soy sauce.
As mentioned in an earlier review it has cumin in it.
The fish shaomais comes in portions of 5 or 8.
Usually they will serve you the eight if you do not specifically ask for the 5.

Fish shaomais:
This time had lots of sauce with it, the sweet sauce and the chili sauce.
The chili sauce was really spicy that you cannot taste the fish shaomai.
Luckily the other cup of shaomais only had soy sauce so after I mixed them it did not taste so spicy.

Deep fried shaomai and seaweed rolls @ 楚塋小食

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried shaomai:
After trying some delicious deep fried shaomai, I found them quite irresistable provided the frying oil is fresh.
My first encounter with deep fried shaomai put me off in Sai Kung because the oil was not fresh, but after trying decent ones at this noodle shop in Hung Hom I am addicted.
They have an extremely crisp exterior because of the wonton skin and the inside is really soft.
It was a pity they did not have vinegar or ketchup because that would go really nice with it.

Seaweed pork and crab rolls:
The combination of pork and crab was quite strange but I tried it anyway.
The crab was wrapped in the centre with the pork on seaweed on the outside.
The pork tasted like luncheon meat but without any flavour. The roll was quite tasteless and extremely greasy.

Photos of the shop:
Since my last visit, some of the items have been discontinued and there are some new snacks.
The background of the shop name is lighted up and changes colour all the time.

Why was it sprinkled with sesame?

On my first visit I found something in my fried rice but I decided to give it a revisit.
It seems that I was not the only one to find something, ChanJan also found an ant in the drink!

This time I did not find anything extra however I was given an extra topping!

I ordered the fish shaomai which was from their steamer, as with all fish shaomai they put chili oil/sauce or soy sauce on it and the dark red sauce that is used for rice rolls if you ask for it.
Anyway, he asked me if I wanted soy sauce and chili sauce so I said Yes so I was just expecting those two, but before I could even stop him, he had already sprinkled sesame seeds on the fish shaomai.

I have never seen any other shop sprinkle sesame seeds on fish shaomai but only on rice rolls from my experience.

As the taste, the fish shaomai were not hot enough, the sauce was quite nice apart from the sesame seeds.
Although the sauce was plain soy sauce and chili, it had other sauces mixed in which I hope wasnt left over sauces from other stuff!

The price was really expensive as well, usually fish shaomai ranges from $10 to $12 but here it costs $16 not including a drink.

Fish ShaoMai @ Flower and Fruit 88

I never thought I would buy any food from here because they just sell HK style sweet-savoury sandwiches and sweet-savoury salads.

Anyway, when I walked pasted I saw fish shaomai and rice rolls so I decided to try them.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Rice Rolls:
They were too soft and mushy.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Fish ShaoMai:
Usually they all taste the same but the chili oil they put on it seemed to have cumin hence the fish shaomai tasted nicer.
