Goodbye to KFC on Langney Road, Eastbourne

I love KFC and the one I usually go to is the Langney Road branch when I am in town.

Without this, the nearest one would be the drive through which is annoying if you don't drive.

The chicken legs here are moist if you happen to be there at the right time when they have been freshly fried.
The chicken has this lovely stickiness between the skin and the coating which is absolutely delicious and even more divine with extra gravy.
Anyway, sad to see it go and this is probably the beginning as lots more will probably close soon.

Over the moon with the world's first KFC mooncakes

A while ago, I spotted this huge signage that KFC was going to open a new branch at Causeway Bay in July so made a mental note about it.

The new branch is located on the corner and occupies two floors!!

The street level is Sweet Box which is grab and go desserts and drinks, the first floor is the ordering area with self service kiosks and bar seats while the second floor is the main dining area.
Both floors have an order screen that indicates the orders that are ready to pick up.

Attended the KFC Causeway Bay new store and Mooncake official launch.
At the new concept store, there are some exclusive options to give diners a different experience.

Grilled chicken combo:
The chicken is grilled to order and it was really comforting because it visually reminded me of nandos, although the taste is different.
The chicken tastes like the flava roast.

Oven glazed hot wings platter:
The wings platter is great for sharing.
My favourites were the garlic cheese and honey glazed hot wings while most people liked the sweet chili.

Chizza:
Previously this was only available takeaway but they were so popular that it is now offered for dine ins.
It was appetizing with the pineapple chunks.

Baked rice with chicken filet combo:
For carb lovers, this is another option as well as the rice buckets.

All of them were tasty but my favourite had to be the  grilled chicken because it was grilled to perfection.
As well as chicken, they have desserts!!!

For mid Autumns festival, I was over the moon with their new World's ever KFC moonlight bucket which lights up with LED.

Inside this cool moonlight bucket you will find Moonakes!!!

There are two flavours:  Golden Lava custard and Spicy chicken and nuts mooncakes.
The Golden Lava custard is a popular mooncake in Hong Kong so it can't go wrong.

For the Spicy Chicken and nuts mooncake, think of it like chewy chicken biscuits gaaijaibeng with chicken floss and nuts inside just like the five nuts mooncake.

Overall I felt that the chicken mooncakes were quite traditional so it won't be a shock for the tastebuds.

Fried [Hainan Style chicken] at KFC 肯德基

In Hong Kong, KFC has a totally different recipe for the chicken coating so I rarely get KFC unless the flavour is interesting.
The KFC meals comes with waffle fries and not chips as served in UK which is another thing I don't like.

Anyway, the new Fried [Hainan Style chicken] captivated me because I love Scallion Oil.

The set comes with rice and a drink and you can also order two extra Hainan Style chicken wings.
Unfortunately, they gave me the wrong ones because they were spicy and tasted totally different from the star of the show.

As I said, the chicken wings were just spicy.

The star of the show was really tasty and you could taste spring onions in the coating.
The sauce that comes with this is chili and lime which really matches the chicken and gives a slight Thai kick to it.

It was good that it came with rice because I am not fond of Waffle fries.

Overall, the Fried [Hainan Style chicken] was impressive but not impressive because the chicken wings given were the wrong ones.

Shabu shabu at Kentucky Fried Chicken!!!

KFC serves chicken obviously but at Hong Kong's KFC they have three exclusive dishes that are totally different from the rest of the world!

They have curry with rice, beef rice and shabu shabu. I haven't been to Japan but they could possibly serve it as well because it is Japanese inspired.

Curry with rice:

Beef Rice:

Shabu shabu:

That day, I went there specifically to try the shabu shabu and beef rice.
To my utter surprise I was stopped for taking photos which rarely happens in my blogging experience, not once was I even stopped in UK.

The shabu shabu comes with rice but I upgraded it to DOLLS instant noodles.

There is extra broth if you need it.

The ingredients were fresh and the burner kept burning until we finished.

As for the beef rice, it comes in a nice paper box with the beef separated in a plastic tray.

The beef was in this sweet onion gravy which tasted like oyster sauce.
Compared to Yoshinoya (a chain in Hong Kong that specializes in beef bowls), the beef was not as beefy but the presentation was neater.
