Lovely meat skewers at 東門町

I was still a little bit hungry so decided to try the skewers here.
There was chicken, beef or lamb.

Chicken was the best because it was juicy, tasty with lots of cumin but the lamb was too fat and chewy for my liking.

Great chicken to feed hot chicks

Saw this new chicken shop listed on OpenRice so had to check it out because I love chicken and the name sounded Western.
The location was rather odd because there are not many Western restaurants in North Point.
That day I had two restaurants in mind, if this place didn't look good I was going to try Camden Town nearby, the Fish and Chip shop from Sai Kung!!!!

When I got there, the logo and colour theme reminded me of JoJo Indian Cuisine restaurant.

They serve roast chicken, brunches with a great choice of drinks.

The restaurant was casual with smiley chairs.

Quarter roast chicken:

I tried the roast chicken which comes with a choice of lemon sauce, BBQ sauce or Bacon red wine jus.
As I was greedy I asked for lemon sauce and the bbq sauce.
When the chicken arrived, it was on a sizzling metal plate which was quite different to what I was expecting because I was expecting it on a plate.
The chicken was juicy and soft with lots of herbs rubbed on it but you couldn't really taste the herbs.
The sauces came in separate bowls.

Personally I liked the bbq sauce because it was tangy and the taste was quite similar to ketchup with some rosemary in it while the lemon sauce had a nice zesty tone but I did not like the coconutty taste in it.

This is definitely a great place for expats to dine.

Chicken with imitation sharks fin

Fook Chun Bo Restaurant (Wan Chai)

The chicken with imitation sharks fin was interesting so had it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken with imitation sharks fin:

When it came I was surprised the chicken was in chicken soup, it was literally pieces of boiled chicken in the soup with imitation sharks fin on top.
It was good that it was pure chicken broth, but because it was pure chicken broth, there was so much yellow chicken oil which you can see on top.
Apart from the oil, the soup with rice is a good winter warmer if you're cold!

Smokin' Hot Texas chicken

Texas Chicken & Ribs (Wan Chai)
I have attempted to dine here quite a few times but there is no air conditioningwhich makes it quite uncomfortable and sticky.

Went on a day that was less hot, but it was still quite hot once you started eating because the food itself was quite hot.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled cajun style chicken breast with coleslaw in bun:

Initially I did not want to order it because it was chicken breast but after seeing the reviews, the chicken was quite juicy so I got it.
I definitely made the right choice ordering this because it was really good, the chicken meat was covered in thick tangy sauce, but there was not much cajun taste unfortunately.
It tasted more like Hickory sauce.
The coleslaw beneath it was deliciously appetizing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lemon and herbs Chicken (quarter):

As well as Lemon and herbs, there were other flavours such as BBQ, Hickory, Mango which were probably better options because they probably smother that sauce on top of the roasted chicken.
There was not much flavouring on this one except for the occasional hint of herbs and the lemon could not be tasted at all.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I would'nt mind coming here again for the cajun chicken, but for the chicken I would only get it if it just came out from the oven because it gets dry fast.
I wanted to try the ribs too but they can be on the pricey side!
The place reminded me of FLAME but more American style!

Hong Kong's McDonalds: Rice Fun Wrap [Chicken]

McDonald's (Central)

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a tasting, I paid $25 with a Newspaper coupon.
I was not on the list for the tasting event!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
After trying the Beef Rice Fun Bowl, I was back to try the Rice Fun Wrap!!!

Review of Beef Rice Fun Bowl:http://supersupergirl.openrice.com/home/reviews.htm#review2293874
(The rice was nice but I would have preferred a better sauce eg curry or black pepper).

I had more faith with the wrap because I have tried the rice burger before and I loved it, so I expected it to be similar but wrapped in tortilla with chicken.

There was a choice of beef or chicken and I chose chicken because it was a crispy chicken patty and I figured I would not like the beef because the sauce for that is sweet.
McWraps are common in other countries and I really want to try the Indian Wrap because it has deep fried cheese in it called the McPaneer wrap with Paneer meaning cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice Fun Wrap [Chicken]:The wrap comes packaged like this!

You eat the wrap by tearing the strip in the middle so that the wrap is still covered on the bottom half.
Again there is a possible option for future flavours or maybe vegetarian if people do not each chicken or beef.

For photo purposes I opened the top end to take a photo of the wrap.

I took a bite and there was a rice patty, lettuce and cucumber inside which was delicious, especially the flavoured rice patty.

In the middle there was some spicy mayonnaise sauce inside which was sweet and spicy.
The spicyness is similar to the spicyness of their chicken wings.

However when you eat it, the sauce sinks to the bottom due to gravity, so the tastes gets stronger and stronger!

Chicken at Hong Kong Chicken King in Sai Kung!

香港雞皇 (Sai Kung)

Went to this restaurant because they seem to be famous for chicken.

There are not many reviews on this place but it looks like an old restaurant and I wonder how long it has been in Sai Kung.

There are three different types of chicken:Hainan style chicken
Fragrant salt chicken
Spicy chicken

This restaurant is always packed with people having chicken pots.

I have never tried a chicken pot so I don't know how that works.

Anyway, I tried the chicken set and I was still hungry so ordered the spicy chicken for takeout.

The staff here were polite and patient which is unusual for Chinese restaurants in SK.

The chicken tasted nice because I had the leg part, but the soup was too salty.

For the takeaway, it was good that she put the sauce separately.

The only disadvantage dining there is that you can smell second hand smoke.

Hand shredded chicken

厚興瑜記手撕雞 (Wan Chai)

Felt like having some chicken so came here because the ET chicken nearby was open but there was no one there to serve you.

It costs $44 for half a chicken.
When you order, the chicken is mixed infront of you.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Shredded chicken:

They do not sell rice at this shop so I bought some rice from the roast shop a few doors away for $10.

Beneath the chicken, it is mainly bones.

The chicken tasted saltier compared to my first visit.
There was a strong taste of Chinese chicken salt (Wah yim).

Getting refuelled with piri sauce for full FLAME

http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=2287914

Flame (Wan Chai)

Since my last visit, there are new items on the menu...
Hooray!!

I could eat here everyday!

They now have bottles of chili sauce on every tables, there are three different types, the green one tastes the best but I don't know why they don't have it now on the tables after I took the picture.
The bright red sauce tastes slightly sweet and spicy, while the darker red sauce has a spicy bean taste to it.

They now serve breakfasts, mighty melts and poutine.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Poutine:

It was quite amusing when I ordered this because no one has ordered it before.
When I asked for it, the lady was quite puzzled, so then I said "you know..poutine, its on your menu", she was like, "I don't know".
When I collected it, it was basically melted cheese on fries, they forgot to give me the chicken gravy as stated on the menu
I was really looking forward to that.
Overall, the fries were quite nice with melted cheese but it was missing the delicious gravy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef and mushroom pie:

The beef and mushroom pie was delicious and it was filled with rich beef gravy with big chunks of tender beef.
The pastry was baked just right and not too soft.

Nicely grilled chicken with a twist @ SiuG

As a chicken lover I had to try this new place for chicken because on the reviews one of their chicken sounded attractive.

I was intrigued by the golden chicken mentioned in the previous reviews which had cheese and salted egg yolk.

When I got there, it was quite early so there was only two customers dining there.
The kitchen end had glass panels so you could see the chefs preparing the food.
The chairs were quite nice and reminded me of garden chairs in the UK.
The restaurant had a nice high ceiling too.
Basically they serve chicken and there are three main types: herb roasted, golden chicken, spicy chicken.

It reminded me of Heung Plus Chicken at North Point.
Anyway I ordered two chicken sets: the golden chicken and the spicy chicken, one with vegetable rice and the other with "silver silk vermicelli"

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
golden chicken:
The chicken was nice and tender and the chicken skin was crispy with some slight fat under the surface.
It tasted nice but I couldn't quite taste the egg yolk or the cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
spicy chicken:
As mentioned on the previous review, it was not spicy but the chicken was also nice and tender.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
vegetable rice: The rice on its own was really nice, it was very garlicky and fragrant.
Each grain of rice was evenly coated with chicken oil.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vermicelli:
The broth for this was quite salty, however the vermicelli was not really "Silver thread" because I have seen thinner strands of vermicelli before.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

As a newly opened shop, I felt that the staff should have recommended which chicken was the best and what they are made with, especially the golden chicken because I only knew that it had cheese from reading the reviews.

I did not try the herb chicken so I asked about it and the captain seemed agitated about the question and just kept answering "usual herbs".

I was quite baffled by that attitude because this is the time when restaurants love to brag about how wonderful their food is and how famous their chef is.

I noticed the chicken bun so asked about that and the guy said the bun was from Sai Kung.
It was difficult to comprehend what the chicken bun looked like so I ordered that as well.
I tried to ask further about the SaiKung bun because I wasn't sure if I heard him say it was from the HK Sai Kung or the Vietnamese Saigon as they serve Vietnamese coffee as well.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken bun:
When the bun arrived, I realised it was similar to the crispy bun. There are two major bakeries in SK, one is SK bakery which is Chinese style and the other nice one is Mushroom Bakery, so I hope it was from Mushroom bakery.
The plate that it was served on was a small square plate which made it difficult to handle. If the plate was round it might have been easier to handle.
The chicken in the bun was really nice and it was the thigh meat without the bone. It was grilled with herbs so I ended up trying the herbs one as well.
However I felt that there was too much onions and it tasted more prominent than the chicken.
The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

After paying the bill, the captain was not so secretive and told us that their chef was from Red Star which was great!
