[Gloucester Luk Kwok Hotel] Sorrowful rice 黯然銷魂飯 3.0

Sorrowful rice 黯然銷魂飯 is a bowl of Cantonese barbecued pork, with an egg, on rice inspired by Stephen Chow’s 周星馳 1996 movie, The God of Cookery 食神.

Previously I tried version 2.0 ,  the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is the Pork oil which is said to be more aromatic as they use Roast Pork oil drippings.

Sorrowful rice 3.0 黯然銷魂飯 is served as a set meal.
Available from 16/9/2019-12/12/2019

The menu:

A nice appetizer to begin the dinner with Prawn head coated in Salted Egg Yolk and Prawn tail tossed in preserved fruit peel.

Next was the morel mushroom, conch chicken soup.
Now to the star of the show!

To eat, you have to mix everything together especially the liquid yolk and the finely chopped onions underneath the roast pork so the sweetness of the onions come out and the creamy yolk lubricates the grains of rice.

[The eggs they use are Japanese Eggs and a special soy sauce which I wouldn't mind just pairing with plain rice because the soy sauce is that good.]
Every spoonful of rice was heaven because of the onions, egg yolk and the crisp egg white.  There was also some lard which brings out all the flavours.
Moving onto the pork, it was just sensational, the meat was lean but tender and I finally satisfied my roast pork craving with this huge piece of pork!!
They use pork collar butt which is the best cut and the the roast pork is served with this glistening almost translucent glaze that is too beautiful and mesmerizing to eat.

It was very satisfying because I prefer my roast meats intact and not cut!!

Dessert was Daihaongpao osthmanthus pudding and the rose and Chinese ham pastry.

The best buffet in Tokwawan! 8度餐廳 (土瓜灣)

Summer is not over yet!!!
8 Degrees are doing a summer buffet which I almost missed.

The highlights this time are the freshly cooked mussels in wine!

Foie gras from the live cooking station:

Oysters, lobsters and seafood are always there so don't fret!

The Chinese soup is a must as it is loaded with delicacies with a strong conch taste.

There were lots of English delights as I found items like: cauliflower cheese, mashed potato and cheese, pigs in blankets, Indian curries and bread pudding! Moving on to dessert, they have freshly made durian crepes!

The dessert selection was definitely a delight as they had my favourite pandan cake as well as a lovely spread of Western cakes like strawberry cream cake and their signature mango mille feuille.

Despite the quietness in town at the moment, this place was full which is a sign of good food. Will definitely be back.

A great hot pot experience in Macau

Went to Macau for the weekend and it was someones birthday so decided to celebrate it here as it was close to the hotel and the place is new and spacious.

This is the beauty of Macau, everything is spaced out with tall ceilings and tables well spread out.

To begin, everyone gets to mix sauces from the sauce tray.

I was impressed with the choices as there were more options than Hong Kong and they had the English name for each sauce.

There were a few sauces that were really tasty such as the Thai Chili sauce which went well with the lobster.

For the non hotpot items, there was soy sauce fried rice and salt and pepper lobsters.

Eating the rice and lobster together was so satisfying.
The lobster was impressive as the coating was crispy and light.

As for the fried rice, every grain was fragrant and evenly coated in soy sauce.

Moving on to the hotpot, we had the tomyumkung broth and the pork broth.

Streaky pork with Sake:
The pork was quite unique because it was just like bacon but not cured.
You get a side of sake which you either dip before you put in the hotpot or dip after it is cooked.
I think it tastes better dipping in the sake after it has cooked in the pot because if you dip it before the sake gets diluted in the pot but overall delicious because the pork is tender.

Ferris wheel meatballs:
There was a good assortment of meatballs and my favourite was the one filled with salted egg yolk.

Dumplings:
The dumplings were neatly wrapped like tortelli, after they were cooked the prawns inside were nice and bouncy.

What appears to be fish shaped pudding is actually squid paste which you break up into smaller pieces into the pot.
When it is cooked, it is springy with delicious pieces of squid in it.

For beef, we had two types: Angus and Fresh beef slices with egg.
I liked the fresh slices of beef as they were tender and silky.

To finish, we had this light Chinese soup which had pieces of peach and egg which was soothing.

Our friend also got a free birthday cake because you get a free birthday cake if you book a birthday dinner a day in advance within the birthday month.
Will definitely be going again as Macau is always a good getaway.

Pleasing buffet selection at [Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees]

As an expat, I have always found that buffets lacked a cheese selection as well as Indian Curries.
My recent visit to the buffet at [Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees] surprised me and it didn't cost a bomb during the weekdays from Mon - Thur!!

It only costs HKD478 which is under HKD500 and weekdays are quieter anyway.

The selection definitely impressed me but as a standard oysters and lobsters are a must in Hong Kong and they had that too!!!

Freshly shucked oysters:

Seafood including lobster and Alaskan crab legs:

Foie Gras:

Japanese grill & Sashimi!
As well as grilled prawns and fish, I was surprised to see grilled whelk too.

These were my favourites and I was elated they had so many items that many other buffets don't offer such as palm hearts, butter lettuce, curry and a good cheese selection.

Indian curries complete with mint sauce, chutney and pickles:

Cheese Selection!!!

Brie on Carr's Water Biscuit!!!

A decent carvery with horse radish, mustard and gravy, nearby there was my favourite potato gratin!

Dessert was just as good and they even had my favourite pandan cake, cherry tart and BREAD PUDDING!!
They even had the newest Haagen Daz ice cream flavours.
The bread pudding was just like the ones in UK topped with custard and not overly rich.

Other visually good looking desserts: Jelly fruits, Lavender cheesecake, Rose egg white cake and souffle with birds nest.
 Mango Napolean:
 Souffle with Birds Nest:
 Banana Charlotte:
 Rum Pie:
Rose Egg White Roll & Lavender Cheesecake:

Part of the stuff I got from the buffet selection: roast beef with butter lettuce, lamb rack, salted egg yolk prawn, palm hearts and lobster in black bean sauce.
Overall, everything was good so you can expect to be stuffed if you go there~
